I've been saying this for years now...
The major problem with their animation / combat, is that the locomotion distance system they're using is out-of-sync with the animation.
Meaning, the characters movement is extremely fast compared to their animation, which results in them feeling like out of place / gliding.
This takes the depth out of the entire movement / animation and fight scenes.
BDO does this well, because when your character moves his body, the distance the character crosses is very proportional and in sync with its animation, while in ashes, the character moves fast and cross long distances when its animation is barely still moving.
The character moves along the X axis BEFORE the animation starts, and it's out of sync with it.

I know its beating a dead horse, but all design comes later. The base is good enough to test out things, the important thing is developing the "backend" of the systems. If they feel like they completed the backend and all the systems, they can spend 6 months squashing bugs and focusing most of the workforce towards design.
Yes, the game won't look like black desert's "glossy" look, its not mean't to. Its a mix of World of Warcraft, Lineage 2, Archeage and including cooler particle effects and lighting, but its won't be focusing on the "next level" design, and I prefer it that way.

What I want to know about this game is the "progress". For some reason I don't like reaching endgame in a "week" or a "month" in RPG games while start grinding endlessly afterwards. This may be due to the fact that the RPGs that impressed me the most were the old RPGs and they definitely had some slow progress.

    • @kurai8437

It needs to be done correctly tho or it kills newer playerbase. If you have to wait months to do endgame content and you dont have an extremely valid alternative (example, raids for lower levels with forced mechanics so max level players cant just come and oneshot the bosses or an enforced "max level gear for this instance") you get bored really fast.

As someone who was most exited about freehold I am sad to see the direction they decided to take with it. They are aming to have 50K players per server - 10k at launch - and only low thousands of freeholds and since you will have to get to levl 50 first and then compete agains other players and most importantly guilds to get one... well even if I am more hardcore player I cant make enough coins to bid agains guilds (also I really dont want to rush levl 50) so I am afraid that guilds will own almost all freeholds and there is no way anyone will be able to stop them. In a greater scheme of things that also means I wont be able to have access to best processing so there goes my plans to be best breeder in my Node.

    - People who will be most likely to not only obtain one, but get the most use and fun will be Life Skillers/Non combat activity PVE leaning players. Why not give them an advantage for once?
    - But it's not a disadvantage to everyone else. WHY? Because if you have to use their facilities, I'm sure they'll be more than willing to allow you to for a price, or even free. So you can add some more dimensions to the overall economy.

Take a look at the percentile of players that play the most hardcore content in mmo, is always single digit. Take a look at the most successful mmorpg, everyone can get almost everything.
Also if you take the mmorpg as a genre you will see that where most players caters are stuff like crafting, housing, fashion hunting e stuff like that, not raid or dungeons, and will be the same in AoC... But then you have system like the freehold that players would want to get into but can't. And we are talking big numbers, most of the players.

I actually have no complaints about the combat. You may rate it a 6 or 7 / 10 but I think that's more to do with the flashy, visual, fast paceness that people might expect from like a BDO but what makes combat fun for me is the focus on fast pace decision making by the developers.
Take a game like FFXIV in the late game with raiding... You really need to have a good grasp on your cool downs, what each ability does, timing with your other group members, timing with boss mechanics, and positioning to master class. So really, combat ratings should add that extra category and tbh BDO would absolutely fail in that regard. Sure it's flashy and mobile but it's so grindy. It's all about big damage and killing things that are just auto attacking you in mass, but that gets very boring, very quickly.
Ashes has already shown that they want you to memorize each encounter and plan accordingly. That is what breeds longevity in an MMO.

Archeage was tab target but it had mobility, fluid combo's and low cooldown times.
When people ask for action, I sometimes wonder what that even means. BDO? it's combo spam that uses player orientation to determine where abilities go. It's just the sfx and animations carry it.

Idk im still not hyped of this game.. alot of question marks in my mind
also it feels like based on party play only or idk how you lvl with a healer if you dont have any dmg spell? or im crazy?
And this freehold thing?what's the benefit for solo players how they play this game not everyone like to group up ..

You don't actually have to play Tetris within the inventory system. There is an auto-sort function.

I hope the ranger has a cloak/invisibility. Turn into The surroundings around you like a bush or a tree. That would be awesome

one thing they need to focus on the most is OPTIMIZATION and future proofing the engine.
they are working for years, they will work on it for another few years. for a game to stay relevant and good, it needs to be architected well enough.
espeically with AI today, i hope they can do something with that power or talk about it what they can do with it for this game and how would they use it.
they just need this game to run smoothly as possible on every preset level for given specified card and thats it, it's gonna be great.
but yea, there is so much new stuff coming and getting bettered, they need to think about that to stay relevant, they probably will stay relevant regardless because it's not a bad game at all, but developing a game with future in mind will actually give players better incentive and other people that havent tried it yet to be a good game to play and invest and spend time on.

Have you gotten to try fishing? I am reading you can craft fishing boats...Sport fishing in Archeage was the greatest thing ever honestly. Sure hope it exists in this game!

We're at the point now where I'm checking my Email a few times a week for stress test invite. I Know we're probably still at least a few months away but it only takes a few seconds to check and I'm not missing the first one I get an invite too.

Not sure how to feel about freeholds...
If u have one and want to keep it YOU HAVE to pay your monthly fee (no pause) or you loose it.

Ofc, otherwise people will buy land in the game and when they quit the game, it will stay there forever and no one else can access it. In-game rent is pretty common, politics and economy is often what makes MMO's. If you don't like those things, you should probably stick with FPS games or simpleminded RPGs like roguelites.

Part of me thinks this is the next Star Citizen in perpetual development.
