I think what I loved most about this show is that it avoids a lot of old people and retirement home tropes you see in a lot of movies and TV. So many times, elderly folks are portrayed as just the senile old coot and make that the butt of the joke. And there is SOME humor in here where maybe someone isn't familiar with some tech or is set in their ways. But for the most part, the folks in the community are portrayed as sharp individuals who are still totally independent. And ones who are slipping are not treated as a joke. These folks and the subject matter of growing old is treated with dignity and respect. And on top of that, a lot of these characters have lines and situations that made me laugh out loud several times. Like you, I was not prepared for the amount of emotional investment I would come to have in these characters, and some scenes made me legitimately have tears. Whether they were happy or sad tears. I can't rave enough about Ted Danson. I think this one is gonna stick with me. I loved it a lot.
Just finished watching the whole series. I saw Ted Danson talking about it on a talk show and loved the premise. But, what I loved more was the deep, meanful story that really drew me in emotionally. So many real to life scenarios that aren't talked about very much. I like that the writing didn't fall into a bunch of cliche twists and turns that could have easily been the case in a "who done it" type of mystery like this It was beautifully done.
I loved it.. Couldn't stop watching... I think it was wrongly categorised as a comedy because oh boy was there water works from me for most of the episodes .. Especially towards the end.. I love.. Love that the last scene was funny though . That was unexpected.. And much needed... The best Netflix I've watched in a very long time...

I bawled my eyes out through put the last 15min of the last episode
I'll admit....the first ep wasn't the best of starts, but after that it just got better and better!! I binged it this weekend.
