  • Building an Industrial Metal and Wood Coffee Table for Charity. Dimensions 30x30x19 made of 1 1/2" metal angle, 3 1/2" plate and expanded metal. The pallet wood top was flame distressed then sealed with boiled linseed oil while still hot from the flame process. The wood was then sealed using Minwax paste wax. The TIG welded metal frame was stained using Sculpt Nouveau black stain and then sealed using Minwax satin PolyCrylic. This piece was handcrafted to last generations. The products I used to finish this piece are available in the links below.
    Every year Klearview Manor of Fairfield, Maine holds a silent auction. The funds raised from that auction go towards helping special needs folks that are wheelchair bound attend a summer camp. I built this coffee table for that purpose. I hope that the successful bidder enjoys this table for many many years as much as I did building it.
    The auction will be held on Sunday April 22, 2018 at the Fairfield Community Center at 12 noon.

    Nice job, steel and wood a great combo, and for a good cause, for those folks who don't yet have TIG, its a great process for some parts of a project like this as the welds are lower profile than MIG, and can avoid the hassle of grinding flush in internal corners.
    Top piece of work.

    If anybody knows, how is the metal beam(or whatever it's called) that he's using, made?
    I mean the one with the L shaped cross section. He used it to make the whole frame, but what I wanna know is how the beam itself is made or how the metal is bent that way

    • @BrandonLund

      Gordon Reiher Spot on brother! I really enjoy tig but sometimes I get impatient because mig is so much faster but in reality it probably works out the same because there is no spatter cleanup with tig

    • @BrandonLund
      @BrandonLund  2 года назад +1

      @Tim Arland I've done it both ways. I did for this one. Surprisingly the stain holds up a little better with the mill scale on vs off

      A metal cutting chop saw if you have access to one. If not you can do it with a grinder or even a plasma cutter if you have a steady hand

    Brandon do you like the smart stain from Sculpt Nouveau? I've used their black magic but it seems like it would be hard to use on a project like this. I'm thinking I may have to try the smart stain. Great build as usual!

    • @BrandonLund
      @BrandonLund  6 лет назад

      Jimbo's Welding Shop Aka: The humble welder thank you very much! I love the smart stain. A little goes a long ways. I found if you grind to bare metal it doesn't seem to adhere as well compared if you just wiped down the metal with laquer thinner and wiped on the stain.
