James Cameron is such an inspirational figure. This interview alone has motivated me to do better in school and not spend the rest of my life smoking weed and doing nothing. If I can achieve just a fraction of what JC has achieved then I would have lived a pretty damn good life.
That was just brilliant. It was really 30 minutes well spent. This guy knows how to direct a good action movie and he knows the technology that goes into creating his worlds inside out literally. Its great to see him talk about technical part of film making for once. I always wanted to know how he did the bio-illuminessence for Avatar. Now I know! :D
This is one of the most thorough and in-depth interviews given by a film maker that I have ever seen. Wish we could have more of them from other directors.
A wonderful, wonderful interview, which makes me all the more appreciative of the effort to produce Avatar. Thank you for taking the time to make this interview.
Very interesting interview. I just have so much respect for Cameron because he could have done the film earlier but instead waitied and was patient with developing the technology. To me, it shows what a great visionary he is, committed to producing the very best in cinematic experience!
i just love listening to him talk. i could listen to this guy ALL DAY LONG! i wish he could be everyone of my college professors, i swear. you're the man Jim! love your work
Thank you so much for this interview!!! it is just natural! JC is so inspirational... I am a Film and TV student... I totaly appreciate and love Cameron's work... Everything the best James!!!!
Wow..Passion, determination and knowledge are the key to achieve what he has....simply amazing...the kinda knowledge he has about camera, light etc is outstanding...
My god, The amount of work that goes into a movie, I thought I knew, but now I have seen this interview it just blows my mind on how much I didnt know. And I know alot about movies and filmmaking. WOW
Look how smart, clever and confident this master filmmaker is. It's all coming out of him so casually. It's like he lives, breathes, smokes, eats and drinks film. And, yet, he's been exploring the sea for the last 12 years. It's like Cameron has come back to his root... what makes him James Cameron. I also get the impression that no one else in the business knows so much about the filmmaking process.
From a technical aspect, this guy's the best and most innovative film director ever. In terms of script-writing? Not the best, but still damn good. I absolutely LOVED Avatar. The na'vi were the most realistic and expressive CGI characters I've ever seen.
James Cameron a genius. He invented the idea for Avatar in the 80's but didn't want to make in back then because of the lack of technology. So He waited almost 30 years to film it so he could make it perfect. This kind of perfectionism is what film industry needs!
This is left + right brain in action, he's talking biology, technology, economics, art, photography, visual effect, acting, producing, directing...WOW!
OMG! James Cameron, you are AWESOME! Honestly, folks, I don't know if one filmmaker has ever done more for the use of special effects than James Cameron.
someone who has the chance to interview such an absolutely amazing man needs to be a bit more professional. Quit interrupting the man, quit moving the camera while he talks, and fix the mic on him, not your rustling. Gee
I consider myself very well versed in modern CG techniques and i'm still in awe of what Cameron has done with each of his new projects. We know it's CG, but it's CG from the formost pioneer of digital movie technology, so quit bringing it down or post your own stuff for critique.
Say what you want about Avatar as a piece of fiction, but James Cameron innovated technologically to no end to make that picture. He deserves credit for that, if only that, even from those who thought Avatar's narrative was childish and predictable.
Come on!!! Listen this is a great movie, phenominal! It's even better when it is on THE Big Screen, I dread the day when Avatar is no longer in the theaters which is why I intend to go see it every chance I get in the theaters! So don't go just watch it online, go at least ONCE to the cinema and see it. You are not disappointed!
I'm not the biggest fan of Avatar. Great to watch but there are some big problems with the plot and screenplay. But my god, it's mindboggling to think about just how much work and intelligence went into creating something that looks so fucking good.
@LukeLovesRose I love what cameron says in the interview and always do. he did nothing wrong. i'm am, however, slamming the interviewer for poor video skills. I'm a video student and i'm still learning myself but I know to set the tripod before the interview, set a mic, and hush when he's talking. those simple three aspects make a huge difference for a start
He is, but he has a temper on set, and can be very demanding. But he has collaborated with some of hollywoods biggest talent like Stan Winston, and Stan agreed that he can be a bit of a jerk on set sometimes but he didn't mind that because he respected his genius and loved being pushed to be the best he could be. Winstons collaboration with Cameron continued until his death, so I guess cameron can't be that bad of a person.
@reviewreviewer1 Your opinion. But, what I saw in Titanic and Avatar is the suggestion that our leading characters were making love. It was beautiful to see them commemorate their love for each other in those moments IMO.
@bvangeem26 You're talking about the CG as if it's a mistery, it's not. People are very used to it by now, sure it's ahead of it's time in 2010, by 2015 it will seem like your average holwyood movie.
A great frontruner but have you heard about the rumor that a woman actually called Sophia Stewart wrote a story called The Third Eye, and she claims that Camerons Terminator film is a ripp of from that story, she also claims that it is the sama case for The Matrix. I hope that this is not the case since i realy like Camerons films
man its very interesting to hear him talk, but its rude from the interviewer to interrupt him all the time! let the genius talk who made terminator and avatar!
This man makes 2 movies within a span of a decade, more or less.....and they both become the top 2 films of all time!....Cameron is set for all eternity lol. That is one scary man.
James Cameron's 'Battle Angel', slated for release 2011. Can't wait to see if this 26th century sci-fi movie is a thrill... hmmm Its about a 'female' cyborg that is rescued by a scientist. Interesting? Maybe... I'm psyched to see. Now that I've seen the best movie of all time, Avatar.
yum yum real time mocap very expensive today ^^ !!! but maybe with some technologie from Total immersion or project natal from microsoft, we can play video game in real time with motion capture and realtime camera tracking with 3d glasses ^^ without controlers ^^
Props to the girl for letting Jim speak. This is the first interview that he has done where he actually explains the technology in detail.
James Cameron is such an inspirational figure. This interview alone has motivated me to do better in school and not spend the rest of my life smoking weed and doing nothing. If I can achieve just a fraction of what JC has achieved then I would have lived a pretty damn good life.
Man's a genius, love his movies.
James Cameron is a supernatural human like being , and I love when he goes all technical like that in an interview.
JC went geek, all the way down and couldn't stop. Love it!
A genius director, always ahead of its time.
"it's"?
The way Cameron explained the light problems and breakthroughs is spectacular. Truly spectacular stuff..
That was just brilliant. It was really 30 minutes well spent. This guy knows how to direct a good action movie and he knows the technology that goes into creating his worlds inside out literally. Such a great interview to watch all these years later
i just love listening to him talk. i could listen to this guy ALL DAY LONG! i wish he could be everyone of my college professors, i swear.
you're the man Jim! love your work
Just ordered my Avatar Blu Ray!!
Thank you so much for this interview!!! it is just natural! JC is so inspirational... I am a Film and TV student... I totaly appreciate and love Cameron's work... Everything the best James!!!!

To quote the Lang character what a potent mix!
Jim's genius brain and his incredible vision as a film maker is unmatched in cinema today

This guy knows his stuff wooooooow....
best JC interview on the net so far. great video!
Man, If i could get tips from James Cameron personally... I would be so happy! He as an amazing man, and made a great movie! My favorite movie ever!
James Cameron is a great artist, engineer, scientist which makes him a great film maker... A true visionary and genius..
From a technical aspect, this guy's the best and most innovative film director ever. In terms of script-writing? Not the best, but still damn good. I absolutely LOVED Avatar. The na'vi were the most realistic and expressive CGI characters I've ever seen.

Wow, that was a ton of info. It's amazing the amount of work that went into this movie.
Fantastic interview. A true genius, this man, and not just as a filmmaker, a genius, period.
This is left + right brain in action, he's talking biology, technology, economics, art, photography, visual effect, acting, producing, directing...WOW!
James cameron is the man!! He is great! Titanic and now avatar. My two favorite movies!!
OMG! James Cameron, you are AWESOME!
Honestly, folks, I don't know if one filmmaker has ever done more for the use of special effects than James Cameron.
Master of film-making at work!
I loved the last thing he said:
"That aught to be enough," LOL
Cameron knows a lot about character rigging and digital lighting. I'm impressed.
Could it be an idear to use CT scanning to better understand the anatomi of the face and thereby shortening the rigging process.
someone who has the chance to interview such an absolutely amazing man needs to be a bit more professional. Quit interrupting the man, quit moving the camera while he talks, and fix the mic on him, not your rustling. Gee
A true genius of our time.
god bless you james. and thank "god" for this blessing of an awakening. much appreciated. was getting tired of this lifeless world :)
@PrXela
I loved this interview. It allowed Cameron to speak naturally and honestly.
Watched Avatar 4 times now going for 5. Damn this guy is a real visionary
This man is truly one of the smartest filmmakers. Even if you hate his films, you can't ignore his. intelligence
i can't wait for alita! go james!
I consider myself very well versed in modern CG techniques and i'm still in awe of what Cameron has done with each of his new projects.
We know it's CG, but it's CG from the formost pioneer of digital movie technology, so quit bringing it down or post your own stuff for critique.
its awesome that i go to the same highschool that james cameron did
Say what you want about Avatar as a piece of fiction, but James Cameron innovated technologically to no end to make that picture. He deserves credit for that, if only that, even from those who thought Avatar's narrative was childish and predictable.

9:10 ... battle angel? ...Is he referring to Battle Angel Alita the manga? just wondering tho.
i heard this guy went back and just perfected the whole movie. This should be good
Cameron is a visionary in more than one sense of the word.
admire.....respect.....follow
@axltyler
actually it's from outer limits, episode Soldier
I'm not the biggest fan of Avatar. Great to watch but there are some big problems with the plot and screenplay. But my god, it's mindboggling to think about just how much work and intelligence went into creating something that looks so fucking good.
HOLY SHIT BEST JC INTERVIEW EVER??
this is the only movie that i didn't feel that i didn't waste my money. going to watch it gain.
this lady didnt let him talk.
battle angel should be his next project. alitas story is amazing!
Titanic is a "poor effort?"
Titanic is one of the most well-made films of the last thirty years, my friend.
I hope that he is going to take it to even a greater level next time if that's possiple to imagine.
I'm glad he clarified that is was not Bill Nye the Science Guy because that is where my brain lead me.
@pazki so is sam worthington
Great interview.
Its James Cameron, he can do anything!
James u really r KING OF THE WORLD at what you do
@bvangeem26 You're talking about the CG as if it's a mistery, it's not.
People are very used to it by now, sure it's ahead of it's time in 2010, by 2015 it will seem like your average holwyood movie.
It's because of James Cameron that I want to be a filmmaker.
AWESOME how they got those facial rigs to work :) :) :D
man that ..would be something.. im a hardcore fan of Battle AngEL Alita.
@tully4444
Avatar fans have been wondering that for almost a year now.
great vid
The dudes a genius!
I love this guy, so cool!
F-ing good interview!
Great interview, but maybe next time they should get an interviewer who knows anything about the subject.
@navylaks2 Cameron's idea for Terminator came from a story written by one of the scriptwriters of The Twilight Zone.
great stuff
James Cameron is the uber master of action and scifi flicks. Nobody comes close.
@gibbi8 Or videos like "A day in the life of John Lasseter". Itñs fascinating to watch this stuff, and we, young filmmakers learn a lot
Dude, heck no, it was amazing...
Master's Masterclass!
man its very interesting to hear him talk, but its rude from the interviewer to interrupt him all the time! let the genius talk who made terminator and avatar!
@achmedlolol what do u mean by cgi?
from a technical standpoint i agree with you, it is well made. but in most areas in pales in comparison to his earlier work.
This man is the perfection!
How cool is James Cameron.
This man makes 2 movies within a span of a decade, more or less.....and they both become the top 2 films of all time!....Cameron is set for all eternity lol. That is one scary man.
no silly the cost was the Venture Star space craft lol cost of building that was way high :)
Hehe, actually he has said that "Piranha II" is the best flying piranha movie ever made ;)
Mr. Lucas (and now Disney Execs)
this is how u do a CGI movie with soul...
@gibbi8 Good luck to you mate, i wish you all the best.
yeah
@Johnlindsey289 Thank you, Mr. encyclopedia.
James Cameron's 'Battle Angel', slated for release 2011. Can't wait to see if this 26th century sci-fi movie is a thrill... hmmm
Its about a 'female' cyborg that is rescued by a scientist.
"aaaaaah" the girl has no idea, Cameron must be a little pissed hehe
@gibbi8 apparently 42 people smoke weed and do nothing, therefore gibbi8's comment made them think differently
@bvangeem26
Nobody is "scratching their heads", it's CG.
I think one of his next or future project might be remaking Fantastic Voyage.
@Bvangeem26 HELL YES I AGREE ON ALL LEVELS 100%. He is my most fav James Cameron OWNS!
you have to admit he knows his stuff..
