Doctor Takes Personality Test | Are They Even Accurate?

  • Residents in my Discord have been asking me what my Myers-Briggs Personality Type Indicator is, and I didn’t know! So I sat down to take a personality test inspired by the MBTI philosophy and was… surprised by my results. There are several scientific problems with these tests which should prevent them from ever being used in making a major life decision. Some companies actually use these things to hire employees and structure their business, and that’s not something I can endorse. That being said, these tests are very fun and can be entertaining to take with friends or even provide you with some introspection if done with a professional. Let me know what personality type you are down in the comments!
I LOVE reading your comments and take your suggestions seriously. If there’s a subject you want me to discuss or something you’d like for me to react to, leave a comment down below. Many of my videos have been born out of suggestions directly from you, so don’t hold back!

The test Dr. Mike took was adapted from the Big 5 personality test, which is scientifically accurate. The test tried to combine MBTI and Big 5 to sound both accurate and interesting but failed.
Honestly, if they were going that route, might as well make another letter scheme that sticks true to Big 5 rather than combining two different typing systems.

I think the point is more that in different situations, we act differently. That's why those type of questions asked in these tests don't even make sense. Maybe he doesn't care what people think, like for example, what his bosses have thought of him, but with his father it is different. Personalities are not quantifiable.

      It's actually not contradictory.
Worry about disappointing someone who finds you to be a figure they look up to isn't the same as worrying about disappointing a figure you look up to. The position of relative power is reversed. He's not concerned with disappointing others who see him as an inspiration, meaning he knows he has faults and probably shouldn't be on a pedestal, but he doesn't want to disappoint his father, either because of evolutionary drive to find approval in our care takers or because he admires his father and wants him to be proud, or both.

I'm INFP, mediator. And I think it suits me quite well.
I find it funny that you say you're uncomfortable in social events, but at the same time you joke around with people and insert yourself when you understood the dynamics.
I'm pretty much on the introvert side of things. I put myself in a corner, watch people and wonder how they can manage to talk to other and make social situations seem so easy. The only times I'm in a corner with max one person with me is if a group of people I know and feel safe with are there. And even then, I'd most likely be on the quiet side (although, maybe this weekend will be ok as friends from Sweden will be there and I'm less shy speaking English than I am using french (mother language) or german)
It's also weird to hear you say you're not organized,... You're a doctor, a content creator, you have a dog, you're boxing,... How can you do all you're doing if you're not organized?

The tests are often wrong, but the mbti theory is right it is much deeper than four letters, it is about cognitive functions and your preferences it is not black or white at all, the benefits of mbti is understaing yourself and other people not putting youself in a box or something, i think the misunderstang of mbti and creating stereotypes of every type is the big reason why most people don't believe in it.

I like to use the types as a way to compare how different people view the world, and as a way to introspect and really evaluate my own self. Personality tests shouldn’t put you in a box, they should allow you to better understand how people are different and try to figure out how to work with those differences instead of shutting them down in yourself and others.
I really like the 16 personalities test, but I think it’s important to remember that it’s not strictly based on meyers briggs, even though they use those letters, and if it seems off to actually look into the typing and choose the one that’s closer to you (yes Dr. Mike, that IS actually how it works!).
My type tends to come out more or less the same no matter what test I take or how many times I take it, so I think it helps if you really know yourself to begin with.
      Sincerely,
      INTP (-A, for the 16p folks 😉)

And you DO make a youtube channel to help us understand scary medical things in the world around us and help us navigate, but also get us excited about the things that you're excited about in science and wellness. The metrics they use are not absolute. These are common characteristics for a group that can be (but not always be) loud and present :) ESFJ's tend to be some good people. I love these tests even though they're inaccurate as hell, because i get the same exact outcome every single time (ISTJ-T) but the only percentage that is even mostly consistent is the E/I split (which is always 95+ introvert), the others have all been anywhere between 51-90 each time, which is fascinating! I'd love to know how much of this (outside of the obvious errors which come from the inherent reductionism) is affected by social desirability bias, because all of the aspects of mine that i don't agree with reflect who i wish i was quite accurately!

That can be so true for some of us, varying results particularly if they are greyscale on some of the aspects of the test - for example his results were quite middle of the range for all of the determining factors. For some of us it is more extreme where we score 90/10 or 80/20 or even 70/30 which determines how consistently we churn out the same result time after time.

    • @camouldsn
      @camouldsn 3 года назад +8

@@antoinettenovella1630 true, if I looked at the actual percentages, they have definitely changed over time and I can see how they could steadily flip to be different, however if you didn’t lie and didn’t just make everything up, that isn’t always the case. Usually some huge change has to happen for it to be that extreme of change.

Yup. Also one issue people have is answering the questions how they used to be. Even Dr. Mike brought up “High School” (which I understood why he had but the answers and results are meant to focus on the present).
One last thing, people can answer on how they see the world not necessarily how they think and behave.
For example I’m an ENTP, however through my job I now can empathize a lot more others emotional responses. If I answer the questions to the MBTI now, it would put me as an ENFP; but I’m realistically an ENTP who has just matured and can appreciate how “feelings” can be just as important as logic.

I agree with Dr. Mike when it comes to the 16 personality test. It isn't accurate enough because it doesn't focus on cognitive functions at all. There is a different test much more accurate and complex on sakinorva. Personally, I've been a huge fan of MBTI (Myers-Briggs Type Indicator) because of how accurately they explain behavior of each type depending on the functions and their order. I really recommend trying the deeper version - the results can still change depending on your mood or mental state but once you learn the basics about the cognitive functions you'll get the idea of what's specific about each type and you'll find out what fits you the best.

Few people are fully caricatures of the MBTI, we have a lot more than 16 personalities in the world. But in the beginning of getting to know a character, it can be useful to read about these personalities and get ideas! I have an ENFP dating an ISFJ, that's a bit interesting, haha...

So, I took this test a while ago, and my dad brought up those issues to me as to why he doesn't like them. But the more I researched it, (I even have Carl Jung's phycology book) the more I realized it was never about defining someone, but rather just explaining vague tendencies and preferences (Not absolutes) about how the person perceives the world and makes decisions based on perceptions. Even Carl Jung himself said that his cognitive list is only a vague grouping and shouldn't be used to define yourself or others. So, i can see your issues, but they aren't real issues if you really understand it.
