Steel is the best movie that has ever graced the silver screen and should therefore be treated with the respect it so rightfully deserves. Clearly you’re unable to appreciate the hidden complexity, the amazing comedy and the nonstop action this movie provides. This movie clearly deserves to be compared to the other great movies of all time like Shawshank Redemption and The Long Mile. Not to mention the great on screen performance of Shaquille O’Neal. 10/10
"Don't mess with the bull, young man. You'll get the horns." SUBSCRIBED. SUBSCRIBED. AND SUBSCRIBED! I died of laughter at that and the minute you said Judd Nelson, I was totally thinking of the Breakfast Club, too, lolololololololol.
It's hard to enjoy it even as a guilty pleasure. It takes 40 minutes for JOHN to become a super-hero and, while there are cheesy one-liners, they're said too fast and there are no pauses. One of them is "It's hammer time!" That's M.C. Hammer's catchphrase! I can't believe that STEEL... steals. There are funny moments... some intentional, some unintentional. There's one that I can't tell: STEEL gives the victims of a mugging back their things and, after some heroic words, he gets ready for his dramatic exit. He goes up the escalator. While it's clear that Shaquille O'Neal was cast because of his popularity as an athlete (of course that there are some basketball jokes) rather than acting talent (it's hard to take someone seriously as an actor when the poster shows their nickname), I wouldn't say that this is a "That non-actor doesn't belong here, so stop shoving them down our throats!" type of vehicle. He struggles during the emotional moments, but he has enough charisma to be a good sidekick. Actually, why wasn't SPARKY the protagonist? She has a cooler equipment and a more interesting story arc. Annabeth Gish's performance is decent and she and Shaq manage to have chemistry, even though it's never clear if their characters are supposed to be friends or love interests. Richard Roundtree's performance is good and the theme music is catchy, but the villain is boring. The scene where JOHN (slowly) chases a guy down the streets and then through rail tracks is one of the worst action sequences I've seen in a long time. 3/10
I agree with you on BLANKMAN, I actually adore that movie. But SPAWN, on the other hand...well, I find it enjoyably bad, that much I can say. Either way, never be ashamed to love what you love...unless it involves murder, of course.

He is a frequent staple in Marvel media such as animation, video games and the Marvel Cinematic Universe most notably portrayed by Don Cheadle and a few others. * Victor Stone/Cyborg (DC): The black member of the Teen Titans and even it's leader at one point he also became a member of the Justice League since the New 52 era fused with a lot of technological armor thanks to his father who's trying to save his son from an accident. He's appeared in the DC Extended Universe, animation and video games in most of them voiced by Khary Payton. * John Stewart (DC): The other well-known Green Lanthern besides Hal Jordan he was originally an architect in his backstory but this was changed to a United States Marine in recent decades. His most notable appearance was the DC Animated Universe voiced memorably by Phil LaMarr as well as other animated shows and video games. * Jefferson Pierce/Black Lighting (DC): Yet another black-themed superhero this time he can unleash lightning as his namesake implies just like Marvel's T'Challa/Black Panther of the Avengers and Ororo Munroe/Storm of the X-Men only this time he's an Olympic athlete. He along with Dagger appeared in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) shows Cloak and Dagger (2018-2019) and Runaways (2017-2019) played by Olivia Holt and Aubrey Joseph respectively but they've also appeared in animation and video games too. * A good deal of Milestone Comics heroes such as Virgil Hawkins/Static and Augustus Freeman/Icon (DC): Since this was a comic book company created by black creators. * Al Simmons/Spawn (Image): A former U.S. Marine who was murdered in Botswana while on a mission and sent to Hell he was brought back by Maleborgia becoming a Hellspawn in the process. He was the most popular non-Marvel/non-DC superhero selling really well since his debut in 1992 even spawning a spinoff that revolved around Sam and Twitch and has appeared in film, animation and video games to middling results no less but he's still kicking around in the comic book world.
STEEL was the CATWOMAN of its time. Bad writing, bad directing, bad acting, and no connection to Superman just like Catwoman had no connection to Batman.
I disagree. While both movies are bad, Steel at least has some bits of ironic enjoyment enough to be tolerable, while Catwoman is a movie that is not enjoyable in any sense.
I think the white boy who's narrating this video doesn't understand that a "dookie rope" refers to a gold chain that young black people (especially rap artists) would wear around the neck. It was a thick gold necklace that that was considered highly fashionable in the young Black culture at the time.. and considered "dope".
They need to reboot this movie for sure. They need a big budget movie for this with a great actor to pull off John. Put the Superman symbol, red cape, jet boots, thruster on hammer, and more original script. It's 2019 DC so get on this. Have a cameo for Superman with new actor and put in a new DCEU if done. If no DCEU, then a solo film would work but cameo still.
I do like cheesy films like Steel, Old captain America, Howard the duck, blankman, meteor man, etc as I own a few of them myself and plan to get this and others soon. It's a guilty cheesy bad acting film but it's so bad, it's good but DC needs a new Steel movie.
1. I just learned that Johnson was the reason Steel was yanked from his DC origins. 2. I wouldn't mind a Steel reboot as long as the story was set in the DCU, not in the real world.
I think I've done right there's a few movies that could be made now that wouldn't go over well Steel would be one of them but honestly I would love to see a good take on Static Shock
The arcade as a front isn’t as stupid as you think bc mostly teenagers hang out in arcades and these teenagers make up majority of gangs so their customers can come to buy weapons but it’ll just look like they’re kids that came to play some games
Actually, I have! The only 10/10 I've given is LADY TERMINATOR, but I've given 9/10 to SILENT NIGHT DEADLY NIGHT PART 2 and the Lou Ferrigno HERCULES. The only reason I'm so sparing with the higher ratings is that I think those ratings belong to the truly special bad movies--THE ROOM, BIRDEMIC, PLAN 9. Those movies were made without an ounce of cynicism, and remain consistently fascinating in their badness all the way throughout your watching experience. But with a bad movie from a major studio, there's not much special about another million-dollar Hollywood dud because we see so many of them every year. So that's the only reason I reserve higher praise.
To be honest I thought Judd Nelson did amazing job as villain in DC steel ever since I watched the movie like The breakfast club and his best known Jack from TV series suddenly Susan and he did a pretty good job I don't care anybody else thinks but he did good to be honest this should ask him to be part another DC movies a different character maybe a villain 👈👍👏👏💯
I think Judd Nelson would be a good replacement for Tony Stark's if Robert Downey don't wanna do it nomore bc u put a tony Stark goatee on Judd Nelson and Bam the poormans version of Tony Stark
One thing i hate about modern times is social media, its a gift and curse. Everyones got the most important opinion and they get to shout it all day from a roof top, the biggest roofs. And EVERYONE is a damn movie buff and critic. As a kid me and my family saw this in the theater, we were the only ones there so me and my older borther were laying down in the walking aisle, watching it and we had a BLAST. We loved the movie. We were kids, we had a ton of fun. People forget to have fun, they either need a formulaic film (ALL disney marvel movies) and convicne themselves they love them all before they even see them regardless of the films actual quality, or they need their mind to be blown, or else they give it a 5/10 or worse. Steel is fun, its got issues, many. But the movie is fun. John Henry is an AMAZING charecter, btw did you know that Louise simonson created him to honor Dwayne Mcduffy the creator of static shock and milestone comics? Yeah, thats awesome. John Henry and dwayne both deserve much more than they have gotten. Long story short, yall need to lighten up and have fun and stop needing your wigs to be blown back by everything. Also, stop loving all marvel movies just because you think you have to, criticize them, they need it.
All I can look at is that they have have CIB’s even tho they have ordnance branch on their uniforms and females weren’t allowed in combat arms jobs back then
To be honest I don't care anybody else stinks I think steel did pretty okay I just wish that they could do something different like make him like a symbol of Superman and the red cape that would have been like a different they go there 👈. I think Shaquille O'Neal's did pretty okay play superhero steel DC movie 👍 I'm not going to say I hate it but it did okay and look I'm always down for any of DC movies no matter if it's worse or not and Judd Nelson did great job as villain
People unfairly hate him just for not being similar. If he was in the MCU, he would have been given a pass like they gave Mandarin, Ultron, and Ronan. Steppenwolf and Enchantress, however, plain suck.
1:11 What the HELL is that image on the left doing in a mainstream '90s comic? That's straight-up Whitewash Jones imagery. Well, of course Steel reminds viewers of Iron Man. Willing to create black characters but reluctant to give them decent roles, DC couldn't come up with anything better than throwing War Machine and Thor into a blender and pouring out...Steel.
I'll admit, I like Steel. I loved the character and was excited to see him get a movie. I was disapointed when he didn't fly but that wasn't in the budget. And Shaq...was actually good casting. He looked like what Steel would look like if the comic came to life. Yes, Michael Clarke Duncan would of been perfect casting. But MCD wasn't a star at the time. Was a year before Armageddon. And two more years before The Green Mile. I kind of wonder if they remade Steel who would play him. Would Terry Crews be a good fit?
I know it's awful, but I love this movie!
1997 was arguably the nadir of live action superhero projects; the weak end of Lois & Clark, Batman & Robin, Steel, the unaired Justice League pilot...
Don't forget Spawn.
Wait the final season of Lois & Clark had a weak series finale?!

Yo, Meteor Man goes hard and deserves much respect though. That movie was my jam growing and I never understood why the concept didn’t go past the few issues marvel released of it. With good writers, artists, this hero could be one of the greats.
Sparky in this movie is the closest thing to Barbara Gordon's Oracle identity we get to see on the big screen.
Imaad Shahrukh oof is hoping DCEU fixes that...if they ever use that plot of course
Can't believe he didn't show uncle saying "well I'll be dipped in shit and rolled in bread crumbs"

whoa whoa whoa.....Ray J's "Wait a Minute" is still an absolute banger. I however can not remember a single other song of his to save my life
I allways felt that Sparky was coping Batgirl's change into Oracle.

Wow, the first African-American Superhero Movie dealt with the subject of Passing, that’s amazing
I miss the era when most superhero movie/series were trying to be Batman '89.
Now everyone is tryinmg to be the next Iron Man, launching a cinematic universe!
We need more superhero movies with late 80's funk soundtracks.
I actually kind of liked Blankman.

Should remake this in the DC Cinematic Universe and recast Shaq. Could you imagine seeing Henry Caville standing next to Shaq, both in full costume.

7:00 - LMAO!!!
🤣🤣🤣🤣LMAO dead
Dude! The helmet had me in tears
It’s awefully good but you know what’s just as good?
Meteor man!! Lol
Your opening music sounds like GWAR made it. Who agrees?
Those "Energy Donuts" remind me of sound waves, of which the military actually has a weapon that shoots should. It's lethal, check it out!!
Dis video is literally hilarious
Better than the majority of DC movies out now
I do like cheesy films like Steel, Old captain America, Howard the duck, blankman, meteor man, etc as I own a few of them myself and plan to get this and others soon. It's a guilty cheesy bad acting film but it's so bad, it's good but DC needs a new Steel movie.
That James Brown bit busted my gut
Man, that backstory is really good
A weapon on experiment stage you should never go 100 %
It's Alright.
It looks more like a live-action cartoon than a film.
Kevin Grevioux also worked on some Cyborg comics
1. I just learned that Johnson was the reason Steel was yanked from his DC origins. 2. I wouldn't mind a Steel reboot as long as the story was set in the DCU, not in the real world.
spawn and steel were cool good movies if only they have sequels if it was still the old days.
Superman died and already came back, and they didn't have the chance to launch Superboy and Steel. But not with Shaq, except in a cameo.
Steel was DOPE ..blankman was fire ,,and Meteor Man was my hero...they all should team up..Id go to that movie 10 times..
Dookie rope is a type/style of gold chain.
I think I've done right there's a few movies that could be made now that wouldn't go over well Steel would be one of them but honestly I would love to see a good take on Static Shock
Is Steel under the umbrella of Marvel or DC?? Anyone know?
The arcade as a front isn’t as stupid as you think bc mostly teenagers hang out in arcades and these teenagers make up majority of gangs so their customers can come to buy weapons but it’ll just look like they’re kids that came to play some games
If I had a nickel for every time grandma’s soufflé deflated, I would have two nickels which isn’t a lot but it’s weird it happened twice.
meteorman,steel,spawn,blade
Since “Pacific Rim: Uprising” is coming out next month you can do “Robot Jox”.
You know what, I am seriously considering that. We shall see, though.
12:15 Congrats on pronouncing Lex Luthor's name correctly.
I know Im late, but is that the house from Up 3:48
The video game developer was already an arms dealer.
Hey Jessie, did you ever score a movie that's more on the higher-Bruce end?
Wow ! High five bro
We genie!
Who is the narrator? This guy is hilarious.
Willie at 4:28 is Lars Ulrich
I think Judd Nelson would be a good replacement for Tony Stark's if Robert Downey don't wanna do it nomore bc u put a tony Stark goatee on Judd Nelson and Bam the poormans version of Tony Stark
Why am I just finding these
Well I’ll be dipped in shit and rolled in breadcrumbs
STEEL IS THE GHETTO IRON MAN
Shaq and Shaft: The Movie
OddBall64
SHAQFT.
Also, it came out in 97, people are judging it like a modern movie.
You put me on Abar
Good thing sparky is crippled, when she finally gets steels shaft, aint gonna be pretty....
I don't know what you talking about but Blankman and meteorman where awesome movies but we don't talk about steel so I don't mind you dumping on that
I know it's early, but whatcha have planned to tie in with Ready Player One? I was thinking The Wizard.
I was thinking LAWNMOWER MAN 1 or 2, or perhaps PIXELS.
Jesse Shade those work as well.
Ouch. "Steel" makes "Batman & Robin" (also released by Warner Bros. in the summer of 1997) look like "Citizen Kane."
this is cool...
So Steel gets 4 but Doom gets 3? Get real.
All I can look at is that they have have CIB’s even tho they have ordnance branch on their uniforms and females weren’t allowed in combat arms jobs back then
Why everyone forgets Guettoman?
Steel vs ironman
That Forrest Gump reference tho
I'm glad someone found that reference.
This movie is funny
ITS NOT steal IT'S STEEL. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE SAY IT RIGHT. MY OCD IS DRIVING ME MAD.
BurnRoddy what? You pronounce them differently? You’re a freak.
To be honest I don't care anybody else stinks I think steel did pretty okay I just wish that they could do something different like make him like a symbol of Superman and the red cape that would have been like a different they go there 👈. I think Shaquille O'Neal's did pretty okay play superhero steel DC movie 👍 I'm not going to say I hate it but it did okay and look I'm always down for any of DC movies no matter if it's worse or not and Judd Nelson did great job as villain
i like spawn and blankman a lot more then i liked catman i mean black cat
It was not on. 😂
Jesse eisenberg was awesome as lex Luther. That character has always been fuckin lame and Jesse actually made him entertaining
People unfairly hate him just for not being similar. If he was in the MCU, he would have been given a pass like they gave Mandarin, Ultron, and Ronan. Steppenwolf and Enchantress, however, plain suck.
“Batman and Robin” was awful but it definitely wasn’t worse than this movie “Steel”
Shaq is ah nba All-Star athlete
1:11 What the HELL is that image on the left doing in a mainstream '90s comic? That's straight-up Whitewash Jones imagery.
Well, of course Steel reminds viewers of Iron Man. Willing to create black characters but reluctant to give them decent roles, DC couldn't come up with anything better than throwing War Machine and Thor into a blender and pouring out...Steel.
Damn I actually liked steel
Blue Chips was actually pretty good...Shaq's just a flat-earther now...sad
For the Times van was pretty good I mean I had some corny jokes oil for scammer could have been done a lot better and blade was really good
