Any one planning joining Merchant Navy in engine department can get a feel of the engine room through this video.
In Merchant Navy, ships engine room is known as the Heart of the ship.
All the important machineries of the ships are located in the engine room.
The Main Engine that propel the ship is the main attraction of the engine room.
The Auxilary Generators that power the ship is another cruisial equipment.
The Auxilary Boiler which produce steem for the ship is another equipment.
Purifiers, Air compressors, Fresh Water Generators ,
Pumps, Motors and even the Sewage Treatment Plant are few important equipments for the smooth operation of a ship.
Engine Room of the ship houses almost vast majority of the machineries on board a ship.
Marine engineers are responsible for the smooth operation of all the equipments.
Chief engineer is the head of the department.
2nd engineer is assistant to chief engineer and looks after main engine and all the engine room works.
2nd engineer is assisted by 3rd engineer who looks after generators and boiler and 4 th engineer who looks after purifiers and Air compressor.
Engine room ratings like motor man/ oilers take care of the upkeeping of the engine room.
All officers and ratings in the engine room works as a team to complete the jobs in engine room and to keep the ship sailing smoothly.
