The reason a salary cap won't work is because the bad teams will still be left out, because the player will now have to choose which team they want to be on. I highly doubt these players are going to pick a losing team with no upside.

Out of the teams chasing Soto, the Giants are the only club that #22 is retired. I would wonder could that be a factor?

      Good question.

Although he may be initially disappointed with no t having his customary number, I think the most important number may be the one associated with his bank account.

If Soto wants to come to the Dodgers, #22 is taken by Kershaw. That number is pretty much retired as well

wasn’t a problem for Bryce Harper. Soto will wear #2 for the Giants for the right price.

Diehard dodger fan here. I don’t think they sign Soto.. two huge markets are heavily involved in him and dodgers don’t truly need another superstar.. i thibk that’s being overblown by Soto side for leverage..
Think if we end up getting sasaki (I don’t I think he goes to padres ) then we’ll also sign someone like Jack flaherty and either bring in adames or bring back teo.. don’t see us bringing in both of them
And I think if we don’t land sasaki then they they’ll probably serious pursue one of the big 3 in fried , burnes or snell. Sasaki would sinply be a lottery ticket where you could land an elite arm without paying and elite price but overall I still think the dodgers end up with a new elite arm in their rotation for 2025 regardless maybe even by trade

I love the Dodgers, and hope they 3peat. But you can’t compare teams from the 20s, 50s etc, because they didn’t have playoffs. Any team can get hot or slump during a short series. So much harder to win it all now, let alone 2 or 3 in a row.

As a Dodger fan, I would love Soto to go to SF. The division and rivalry could use it. Would be a blast seeing SF, LA and SD and even AZ fight for it every year.

The giants can have him and he’ll become as irrelevant as Mike Trout.

The players won't go for a high limit. More likely to go for a low cap. Low cap should be 100 million right now. 5 teams were under that level in 2024. Have it go up each year by the same percentage as the salary cap. You can go under but then you pay a fine to the league. As a secondary incentive if a team has a losing record for 10 straight years the team goes for sale so a new owner has a chance to turn things around.

Soto doesn't fit well with Dodgers team chemistry! Dodgers have very humble All Star players in Betts, Ohtani & Freeman.

My dream offseason if we landed sasaki would be
    Sasaki
    Adames
    Teo
    Treinen
And if they can bring back buehler on the cheap I’d be okay but he’s not a need
And if we don’t land sasaki then I think we need either burnes or fried and bring back teo or get adames.. only way i see us bringing in 2 bags of that quality would be if sasaki picks us because they’d save a lot of money on SP considering how little he’d be making

Wow, I’m sold on Soto after hearing you guys . Soto is only 26. They need to get younger not older and Soto is young and wants to win . I like Teo but he’s 31 . As a life long dodger fan , signing Soto at a reasonable contract, dodgers should sign him

I agree with you. I'm a life long dodger fan and I have been telling my friends the same thing. One of the things dodger fans need to pay attention is how young Soto is still and we can use his left hand power bat. Freeman is getting older and one day we will lose that left hand power bat. We have 3 players with more then 5 years with us. Othani, Betts, and Smith. Adding Soto to that group would be long term thrilling to watch. Come on Dodgers let's get this done.

no need for Soto and doesn't fit in . didn't fit in at SD either. Soto stay in NY and who cares what $ he gets as long as not a Dodger. Likely he will get 550 12 yr. but not even close to having impact and skill set of Shohei

We love Ned we will not pay solo no 700 million unless it's the third and even then no because we are a family of unity dodgers bring the city together the dodgers winning formula brings people together and we have a tradition under Thomas soda etcetera of winning wedding brings a smile to God as his children gather Minnesota was to take a little less appreciate the city who would love him and love his talent and can bring the city together if he's willing to take a little less and make God a little more appreciation from God for his talent and the opportunity that has been created our brother our family and his talent would welcome all of our hearts to his ability we're not sure he's wanting to do that if he did we would welcome it but if he didn't respect it would you love to have him but not at the price if you are a dodger you love God the unity the team brings and the tradition of winning for money he would have a chance to play with bets and otani
