I think you are all prejudiced against British bands. Led Zeppelin, The Who, The Rolling Stones overrated? You must be joking! Most of the bands you mentioned I've never heard of. 3 British acts that are overrated are Coldplay, Radiohead and Ed Sheeran.
And of course the stone roses 😂
😂 Nirvana is good, but it IS the hangover of the 80s!
I saw the Who in concert in 1970. They were fantastic. Incredible musicians banging out powerful music. They thrilled the crowd for two hours, unrelieved. Listen to Live at Leeds and see if it doesn't change your mind. One of the best bands ever.
Ya. Rush is just way over some peoples heads. Better for some not to be confused by time signatures other than 4/4
Rush on a list of overrated bands was truly a surprise.
I have no interest in Rush and it has nothing to do with time signatures as I like plenty of prog.
@@marktrickett5081 let me guess… you hate Geddy’s voice, right?
Rush is a bit overhyped (in terms of legacy), they weren't that special, I see bands like King Crimson and Jethro Tull as more important for prog rock, but Rush is fine.
It’s ok that mom is wrong.
Good show. Mine??? Other than a couple hits...
Motley Crue
Crosby Stills Nash and Young
Allman Brothers
Rush
Taylor Swift
I use to think Grateful Dead, til i saw them live. Amazing
Very interesting picks. Agree about everything he said about Nirvana. blughh. Zeppelin, I understand they have a great catalog with lots of innovations, but I just don't ever put them on....if so VERY RARELY for a couple of songs. Def agree with her on Limp Biscuit. What I don't get are this comment section about The Beatles. I'm an 80's guy, Gen X'er, who also loves lots of later stuff from 2000's 2010's. But my God. do your homework on The Beatles before you write them as overrated. 30 yrs ago, I delve into their 211 song catalog that they did in a tiny 8 year window. It took me 3 years to get thru their catalog, bc every album I bought, was so good, I listened to it over and over for 3 months.. 30 yrs later, I'm still mind blown by The Beatles. Do your homework on them.
Paul McCartney is genius!
But McCarnetney After the Beatles just Stunk to high heaven! Everything for decades-just a boring, forgettable collection of nothingness. Lennon was obviously the real genius here. On another note, Sherill Crowe's voice should have never been heard by human ears-there was enough pain in this world already.@@Join.The.Partee
Uh, oh! Papaw Don will be mad the dad picked on Alison Krause! 😂
I cant believe Matt doesnt like Alison Krause ,, Papaw is Sad
My top 5 overrated bands AND reasons
1 The Rolling Stones, too much personal life hype, who cares how much drugs they have taken.
2 Guns N Roses, I hate Axl Rose's voice
3 Pink Floyd, the song Another Brick In The Wall is SOOOOO depressing, repetitive and I can't name another of their songs.
4 U2, they are SOOOO boring
5 Nirvana, I grew up on eighties Hair Rock bands eg Def Leppard, Bon Jovi etc and all I hear is Smells Like Teen Spirit this and Smells Like Teen Spirit that.
I know that my views are contraversal as these bands are VERY popular and some people think that these bands are the best thing since sliced bread. In fact the more infamous the bands are the MORE I dislike them. DONT get me started on overrated solo artists eg Ed Sheeran, Adelle. Could you do one on overrated solo artists please. By the way GREAT video.
❤
Y’all mentioned a lot of overrated bands. I agree with most of them.
I love this!!! I listen to all different kinds of music that a lot of people do not like and that's ok. We are all entitled to our own opinions on music and at the end of the day it does not bring harm to anyone. PS i AM NOT A FAN of Allison Krause, not saying she isn't talented I just don't want to listen to her.
Mary Had A Little Lamb! 😂😂😂
Stevie Ray Vaughan - Mary Had A Little Lamb
SRV is hella overrated. I don't mind him, but wouldn't have him in the 50 guitarists of all time.
Those are some unpopular opinions! 😂 Alison Krause has a magical voice.
I agree with those that said The Doors. For me off the top of my head. I always thought The Clash and Pearl Jam are overrated.
Agree with The Clash and Pearl Jam. But at least The Clash has a lot of decent songs. I cannot think of a single Pearl Jam song that I have ever genuinely liked.
As for the Sex Pistols, I think you were talking about Johnny Rotten. Sid Vicious passed away a long time ago.
Also, Sid was really only just window dressing--he didn't play on any of their recordings, and even live he really couldn't play the bass. He was purely there for show. Johnny Rotten (real name: John Lydon), on the other hand, is the real deal. Sadly, he just lost his wife of over 40 years to Alzheimer's this past year.
@@mournblade1066 He did sing a lead on a few songs. "MY WAY" being one of them.
P.S. I ❤ QUEEN!!!
@@jerrysully6972 No, "My Way" was a Sid Vicious solo project. The Pistols weren't involved in any way.
@mournblade1066 it was on The "Great Rock n Roll Swindle". By the Sex Pistols. I'm looking right at the album. I believe he also sang lead vocals on "Something Else."
I love Led Zeppelin and I wasn’t born till 81. Aerosmith is also awesome.
Don't worry your not the only one who don't get it with Rush, but me personally I totally get it!
You only had four right! Hole, Grateful Dead, Limp Bizket, and the Gorillaz. Sorry, you were so wrong. LOL.
Queen!!! Wtheck. Queen has some great songs
Oasis... Kiss... and ALL hair metal crap like rotley few and ratt and all of that gargbage
There's nothing I don't disagree with here. 300,000,000 Led Zeppelin record buyers may care to disagree, though 🙂
You're assuming that everyone who bought a record likes it. I bought Led Zeppelin albums not because I liked the band but they had a big reputation and I wanted to hear them. If you judge sales as a measure of quality then Michael is far better than Led Zeppelin.
5 bands/artists which most people love, but I DESPISE.
U2
Bob Dylan
Credence Clearwater Revival
Elvis Presley (yes, I said Elvis Presley)
A tie between Pearl Jam and Nirvana.
I wouldn't call great White hair metal. They are a rock and roll band.
Grateful Dead changed my life. For many years I thought they were boring. You don't find the Dead, they find you.
Most Deadheads tell me you have to be stoned in order to fully appreciate the Grateful Dead.
Not saying to start smokin' weed, but there's something that changes when smokin' or drinking........
U2 and Aerosmith
my 5 worst bands of all time...,Pat Benatar, Ramons, Motley Crue, The Bangles, Barbara Strisand
Do you like Tommy Lee’s solo stuff? He has 2 songs I like.
Hold Me Down & Good Times
foreigner, cold, as ice drove me i’ll.
wow, very interesting list, you might be 50% correct.
To me the Beatles, Rolling Stones, Beyonce/Jay z, nirvana & the chicks
Janis Joplin i really didn't like
On the eagles, what's your thoughts on Hotel California being plagiarized from Ian Anderson as they toured with Jethro Tull before this from his song We used to know?
🤔?
Yeah! We Used To Know is great!!
Just looked up we used to know on RUclips... it sounds very similar...
@@jesusamaya8943 but not as damn slow and stale as Hotel California
Can someone please explain what The Rolling Stones actually do well? I have listened to all of their albums and watched some of their live shows. Nothing in their entire output rises above the level of a an average blues-rock bar band. Their reputation seems to be built on nothing.
They used to be the best blues band in the world. In 1964.
@@Foul_Quince They never rose to the level of the American blues artists they were imitating from the 1940s-1960s, so they were never close to the best. My question stands, what did they do well? Never mind the even more perplexing mystery of their legendary status.
@@kerry7932 Maybe they never rose to the level of the blues artists who inspired them, but they were a ferociously tight young band and they created and exploited their niche. Plus, they were good looking and white, neither of which their mentors were, and back then that counted for something.
Everybody is entitled to have an opinion. But when you are a band who's fan base ranges from 16 to 70 year olds, you're doing something right.
@@JimiKool Great. But can you answer my question?
Totally agree on Rush!
Kiss, the doors, grateful dead, nirvana, elvis
Definitely Elvis!
My most overrated: Guns N Roses, Stone Temple Pilots, Peter Frampton, Eagles, Lynnard Skynnard..
Depends on your perception of how rated you think they are, but for me:
Grateful Dead
Rush
Radiohead
Nirvana
Green Day
Def Leppard
The first 3 are all similar in that they are niche. You either get it, or don't. I find Thom Yorke's voice bland and painful. The other two are mainstream. I don't dislike Nirvana, but I found them bland from the get-go. Green Day - bland pop/punk music with no balls. Def Leppard is just naff balls. Didn't bother mentioning bubble gum rock bands like Bon Jovi - not sure anyone with any credibility, rates them.
You have the right to your opinions. Ya just sound negative, and some case flat out mean.
Good job. I mostly agree with y’all.
Im in agreement with the exception of Led Zeppelin and SP
I will give you credit for one thing - being so bold as to shamelessly flaunt all of your severe lack of musical knowledge and taste.
Led Zeppelin and Rush are two of the most innovative, energetic and talented groups, musically AND lyrically, ever. IMO both bands can't be rated highly enough.
Led Zeppelin is mainstream rock/hard rock at its absolute best with arguably the best drummer, singer and guitarist all in the same band. Five of their albums are essentially greatest hits LPs on their own.
Rush excelled at epic storytelling, in music and words, then morphed into more mainstream rock and then experimented with synth-heavy music. They were both popular and critically acclaimed all the way through from about 1974-86. Three guys who made music that sounded like it came from 5 or 6. They also recorded two of the best and most intricate instrumentals of all time - La Villa Strangiato and YYZ. 2112 is epic storytelling at its best.
The Who were great for about a 15-year period. Won't Get Fooled Again is arguably the greatest rock song, both musically and lyrically and for its timeless political messaging. For that alone they are legendary and then throw in the gritty classics Who Are You and Behind Blue Eyes.,
U-2 were the best band of the 1980s, period, and good into the early 1990s. After that, not so much.
The Eagles were anything but boring. They wrote catchy hooks and timeless lyrics that were evocative while fusing country with pop and rock seamlessly. They also had UNDERRATED early career harmonies.
Steve Miller was a superb guitar player from Texas who wrote many catchy hooks with some interesting storytelling.
I will agree with you on the Sex Pistols and, to a lesser degree, Nirvana. The latter had some good tunes but their legacy is tied to being the epitome of the grunge movement.
Steely Dan had some really good music in the 1970s but I think they are overrated. People overly gush about them like they are The Beatles. I don't get it.
If you want to talk about underrated bands or even bands that most don't know much or anything about but (I think) were great, then you're talking about Supertramp, ELO, Triumph, April Wine and Max Webster.
I thank you for letting me rag on you on your own channel.
P.S. I hate to be the word police but you spelled the word 'controversial' very wrong.
Joshua Tree was an amazing album.
Grateful Dead sucks, Steve Miller’s greatest hits was good, the Eagles are actually amazing, their music is played so cleanly without the finger dragging on the strings. I do agree on some of what you both said. Most of them are only good if you’re high.
GAWD DAYUM!!!!! Finally someone who has the balls to be genuine & honest!!!! Thank you SO much for this in proving that it's ok to have an opinion! I totally agree you about Rush. I can't stand them in any capacity. I totally disagree with you about Queen but that's ok. U2 are most certainly overrated. Limp Bizkit are just that - limp. Eagles, to me, are a 1 hit wonder. Nirvana who? The fact Led Zepplin is even mentioned is tantamount to a declaration of war LOL. I am of course joking with you but 1000% disagree. Led Zepplin are Gods. 1 band you didn't mention who, imo, are totally overrated is Motley Crue. Again, thank you so much for sharing.
It is nice to be honest! Who knew you could disagree without fighting? 😂
@@Join.The.Partee IKR!!! A lesson the world so desperately needs to learn!!!
The Eagles had 18 top 40 songs, 10 top 10 songs, 5 number 1 songs and 6 number one albums. Yep, one hit wonder! You nailed it!
Yea , you don’t get it
My 5 most overrated: Led Zeppelin, Grateful Dead, Talking Heads, Nirvana & Oasis. I like the Sex Pistols & The Who (even though Tommy is the most overrated album of all time) but I'm not gonna get bent out of shape about it. Most overrated song: Bohemian Rhapsody. Nobody is above criticism.
Tori’s #1 is the best answer!
Yeah, Led Zeppelin is awful.
I like the Stones first album England’s Newest Hitmakers with the Chuck Berry covers but don’t care when they started writing their own material.
Eagles are overrated even though good, U2 can not even play horrible monotonous songs, Nirvana was really good only slightly overacted. STP came before and is underrated.
Queen, Rush, Led Zepplin, Eagles overrated? LOL. Tell us your best bands so that I can laugh at you guys.
You lost me on the Who
And all 3 of you agree that Zep is overrated, whew
oh my goodness ,, please keep your comments clean and dont forget ,,, you are entitled to your opinion ,, we can agree to disagree ,, You Go Tori ,,
My #1 overrated (no question, for many years): The Rolling Stones -- and really dislike Mick Jagger's voice.
Led Zeppelin and Queen
You forgot ABBA
Queen....wtf?! Queen are awesome. Sex pistols are great.
Rush suck. Can't handle the guys voice. Agreed re Gorillas. Grateful dead are overrated. I like hole. Courtney is Rocknroll. Messy and selfish. Steve miller Band have a handful of cool songs. Limp biscuit are lame. Never heard AK.
The who have a handful of great songs. U2 were amazing in the 80s and 90s. Not so much now.
The Eagles are great. A band for the masses. Nirvana are great. Curt was a very underrated guitar player. You don't like LZ? You like GVF? WTf???? You think great white are better than Zep? Crazy.
Lol 🙂🎸🙂
Totally with you on U2, Smashing Pumpkins, Hole, Grateful Dead, Gorillaz, Nirvana, Queen and Rush - Geddy Lee sounds like the witch from the Wizard of Oz set on But Zeppelin & The Who (before 1975) were brilliant. Greta van Whatever are a Kingdom Come tribute band. Coldplay, Genesis, Radiohead, McFly, Elton John, Paul McCartney and Oasis should be on your list.
Stained stinks as well, talk about some winney music
What I never liked about the Sex Pistols was they acted like the world owes them something. I do not like Punk. I love Early Rolling Stones but they should have retired after the 1970's. My opinions of course. I agree about Grateful Dead as their 27 minute never ending songs at concerts were enough to put me to sleep, however I do like Jerry Garcia and his solo band type stuff. I have the first 5 Led Zeppelin albums but have not listened to them in about 20 years and I do not miss them at all. I agree about Nirvana too. Motley Crue turns my stomach they should have quit in the 70's. I do like several of The Who's songs. I am not into drugs so bands that were about let's see how drunk or messed up on drugs we can get turn me off. I enjoyed your review. I sing and play cover songs at open mics for zero money, just for the love of sharing music. I am 72 years old and still rocking!
❤❤❤
I don’t agree with all of your options. Especially… your opinions on Alison Krause. One of the most challenging things for a singer to do is to go soft & quiet. By singing loudly, it hides the imperfections and notes blend (especially with a microphone). Alison Krause is also in a different class of singer (than most). I disagree with (many of) your choices… but it certainly as a decent idea for a video. Thanks.
Alison Krause sucks
Kiss and motley crue over rated of all time
I love it when people go after the Sacred Cows of the music industry. When I hear the term "overrated," I immediately think of The Beatles. Queen, U2, and Aerosmith aren't far behind. Don't get me wrong--I like The Beatles--love them, even--but I'm sorry, I cannot think of a single time when I have ever said to myself, "You know, I could really go for listening to some Beatles today." I've done that many, many times for Steely Dan, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin. . . hell, The Doors even. But never The Beatles (except for maybe "Yellow Submarine").
Oh, and for the very reason that you dared to go after those Sacred Cows, I just subscribed to your channel. Great job!
That'd because of your age and your taste in music, but The Beetles aren't overrated , they are the gold standard.
@@theprofessorfate6184 My age? How old do you think I am?
@@mournblade1066 Old enough to know better.
I remember seeing the Sacred Cows on Get Smart. They were so grooovy!
Led Zep!!!!! Harsh!
Pearl Jam, Limp Bizkit, REM, U2, Guns n Roses

When did Allison Kraus become a band?
You forgot Bob Dylan
You don't know music.
Matt is overrated.

Limp Bizkit is the worst
Janis Joplin is the worst singer in history.
