Better, when fighting the final villain, in English they decided to retranslate her line, which makes sense in Japanese but wouldn't in English to 'That's what you get when you fight us! It's WTF all the WAY!' which shows that knew the EXACT audience they were going after with this.
This entire anime is just such chaotic neutral energy and I love it! And Ryuko is such an amazing character and I love her massive chaotic neutral energy she brings to every scene she's in. 10/10 anime and main character. Plus Mako is too funny and adorable and is a top tier support character.
Personally, I always saw Mako asking Ryuko on a date as a purely platonic gesture, considering until that point they have had very little time to just hang out and do fun things together without the looming threat of the plot being in the focus. Sure, there were cuts that implied romantic intent, but keep in mind those were during one of Mako's hallelujah tangents which, while very genuine and sincere, are also very hyperbolic and massive exaggerations of what she's ranting about. Even the OVA didn't really imply any romantic feelings between the two in my eyes and for what it's worth, the Kill la Kill wiki just lists them as friends, so take that for what you will. That's just me though, if you ship them, all the power to you. Whether you see them as besties or lovers, you can't deny that they have really good chemistry with each other.
@@testytest69420 That's fair. From what I heard and could find, one of the writers stated that the relationships in the show were written to be open ended, so regardless of your stance on Ryuko and Mako, if that's how you see it then you are technically correct. The best kind of correct.

Now part 3 this is also very much a story about female puberty Kill la kill is a revenge story with a Bildungsroman storyline First few episodes while boring are a metaphor first period since it’s first time senketsu makes her bleed and it’s exhausting for her since she didn’t expect it to happen also her feeling ashamed and embarrassed is normal for young woman just beginning their puberty and as she learns to not worry about how she looks she regains confidence and power because it’s exhausting when you feel other people staring or judging you which happens a lot during teenage years also the situation with the thief girl id a great parallel of learning who is using you and who you can actually trust. There is so many great allegories and parallels to teenage years and puberty. And I can list more but every episode addresses some aspect of growing up for ryuko and becoming a better and more mature person.
When ya cover Satsuki (ha get it COVERS), don't forget the OVA that takes place after the end of the show, I think it wraps up Satsuki's character arc nicely.
16:12 I'm confused why Ryuko wasn't moved at least one last time this point onward; she essentially saved the world, or some number of the beings in it, anyway. Seems like she have moved up a few times into chaotic good at the end for doing that.
As much as I appreciate your view and analysis First makos confession is a grey topic because unfortunately there is a lot of grey area to gl romance in Japanese culture and there is a lot of translation confusion. So it can be seen either way but later on you actually do see them go out and it’s supposed to symbolize a day for the girl to just be girls and go have fun and enjoy each others company and have normalcy something of which Ryuko due to her standoffish and independent nature had trouble doing with others but with mako she is now secure and comfortable enough to do. One point against it being a date is satsuki does join them and they have a nice time hanging out. Either way its now time for ryuko to have peace. I’ll come with my other analysis later busy at work
IIRC, and please correct me if I'm wrong, in the original Mako tells her she want to go out with Ryuko (and Satsuki) to go and be 'trendy' (the word used was 'oshare' I think) together, which I interpreted as her wanting to just go and be normal for a chance, do teen things together. Though if it had a deeper meaning it wouldn't surprise me 😅
@@Dadan-dan kill la kill is full of double entendre so either interpretation is valid but unless it was announced by creator i leave it to speculation and enjoy what we have
You missed an episode. There was an OVA episode post season finale that shows everyone moving on. Granted, all ot really does is prove your post analysis correct, but still
What you said in the post analysis is on point to me. I absolutely loved how the show manages to play everything from the amount of fan service and the ridiculous plot completely straight. Though I will admit I had almost forgotten about the threesome scene but I'm interested to see what you have to say about it.
14:12 as somebody who goes back to this scene every now and then just to feel that chill run down my spine again, ik what your talking about. Imo its one of the most genuinely horrifying scenes in anime in general, and honestly I think potentially the impactful in the series to me. Having Blumenkranz softly playing in the background before opening up entirely sold it hard for me.
I never realized when I watched the series years ago now that I never noticed the nudity. The story really did take front stage and make it white noise.
I've watched this anime so many times, the theme is literally my depression song, I carry the red blade on me everywhere... and I JUST realized the scissoring thing was probably intentional
As pointed out in a brilliant analysis video by alexzandr the Kamui and the scissor blade represenr a sacred duty that was thrust upon Ryuko and shes essentially duty bound to carry out her vengence while Satskui is bound to avenge her familys death and save the world from hsr mothers tyrannical rule. You also have to take a look at the bond between senketsu and junketsu have between them, Senketsu is an equal partner and friend that Ryuko trusts while Junketsu is a mindless weapon thats obly working with Satskui through sheer willpower and domination. Senketsu is the object thats meant to break Ragyos hold over the world while Junketsu is a tool that Satskui will exploit to acomplish her goals. Senketsu burning in the atmosphere is essentially symbollicaly him telling Ryuko that her mission is done and shes free to live a normal life and be a normal girl. Whereas with Junketsus destruction Satskui has fullfilled her ambitions and brought her only family back to her.
Back in my high school days, I was gifted a DVD boxset of the main 24-episode series as a birthday gift by one of my best friends, since we used to watch Gurren Lagann together. And, man oh man, did I love it, and I really enjoyed this analysis of its main character. However, I never did see the OVA/"Episode 25" released alongside the Blu-Ray version, and I hear it has a decent capstone to Satsuki's character development. Not sure if that'll be addressed in two weeks, but either way, I look forward to that episode too!

Yeah...this entire series is just so...hard to describe. Believe me, as an absolute huge fan of this anime and especially most works by studio Gainax in general, this is one of the number one shows that in all honesty, I can't recommend to just anybody as easily as anything else I watch. And it's not hard to see why. This doesn't just flip the entire magical girl genre on it's fucking rocker into next year, it throws everything in a truck right at your face and jumps off the bridge as well. And the fanservice...fuck me if I wasn't the only person trying to say "Well, it's not a hentai, there's more to it than that" and it'll fall completely on deaf ears. Everyone immediately judges it because of the first thing they see, and that kinda sucks because of exactly what Stuart says here. It's absolutely DRENCHED in so much symbolism it almost hi-5's Revolutionary GIrl Utena for how much underlying hidden messages are everywhere you look. And OMFG I absolutely GUSH over the insane over-the-top fight scenes, that is some of the best combat I've seen in a lot of shows. But nobody's going to listen to me say that's why I watched it, or because the writing and characters are insanely well-done. No, everyone just looks at me and says "Oh you watched something cuz it had tits bouncing in your face, didn't ya?" Kill La Kill is an insanely underrated gem of a show that absolutely deserves every bit of attention it can get, and I will be one of the first people to stand up and say "Do not judge any book by it's cover, this is indeed very much worth it."
I totally forgot the Nat 20 scene happened. Ragyo became immediately off-putting after the first onscreen interaction with Satsuki. Both scenes are super creepy, but I only seem to remember the first. I wish you hadn't reminded me of it.
So what class would you say is most appropriate for her? Barbarian because she has a tendency of Raging and technically wears Clothing and not Armor. Or Fighter because she's able to mix up tactics like a Battlemaster? Or a bit of both?
I always question if Ryuko or Satsuki are the actual MC here. Satsuki has her plans from before ep. 1 & only by being pushed by Ryuko does Satsuki find the power to pull that plan off.
Hrm... bit of a new fan here, but I like that Ryuko started as a chaotic neutral. For an alignment with a VERY bad reputation at the table, it's kinda the opposite as a backstory start. She has a goal, and is currently willing to do pretty much anything to do it. Ironically... it gives a chaotic character... focus.
Mako is kind of in her own world most of the time, but I do see the date proposal being romantic. So I totally ship best gurl with protag gurl as Mako intended.

...At some point, now that you have done Kill la Kill, You should look into FLCL. This is not a shot at a joke, but there are several Character arcs that are very much needed to explore. The least of which are a core of Five Characters over the course of first 18 Episodes. Yes I'm including Progressive and Alternative, and not this year's crop of madness for a reason. Naota, Hidomi & Iide, and Kana as protagonists all go through unique arcs that show very different ways of accepting maturity. ...And then there's the cop of madness Haruko. Yeah, not gonna lie that the forever 19 ET has to be discussed with deftness in terms of what she is doing.
I remember having to be hella careful watching this series unless I wanted to deal with yet another hour long lecture from my mom that it was only so sexual and fan-service-y because "the Japanese are sexually repressed". Keep in mind, I was in my late teens when I watched it, finally, and was uncomfortable with watching anything even vaguely sexual around my parents to the point that my mom often called me a prude.
I absolutely hated Kill la Kill when it first came out, I was unable to get through the first few episodes and couldn't understand why people loved it so much. But you have made the strongest case i've ever heard to go back and give it another chance.
"I vow to be chaotic!" "Lawful." "...What?" Look, it doesn't work on either level. One, it's an act of explicit rebellion, a declaration of war against *the* establishment, the foundation of law and order in the setting, through no channels the law provides. It is explicitly as anti-lawful as plausible, Chaotic by means of implicitly going against status quo and established law. Two, it's a declaration made for the purpose of bettering the lives and living of those shackled by said system, which has been shown over and over to be brutal to the point of deadly, on top of unjust. It's a Good act, done in defense of others as a selfless goal. And yes, it's *selfless,* because Ryuko tearing down the establishment wouldn't help her find her dad's killer, just improve the station of people like Mako and keep innocents from being hurt.
I think you would have fun with Jobless Reincarnation Rudy Grayrat. If you don’t know here is the cliff notes. 30 year old wort stereotype of a shut in Otaku get kicked out of the basement after his parents died. Wondering the streets bear foot in the rain. A truck is about to kill a group of Highschool kids. He make the decision to push the kids out of the way, trading his wasted life for Kia that still have potential. Reborn has a baby in a magical world. This world more akin to Game of Thrones than legend of Zelda. This mind and memories are intact. He wants the live a better life but old habits and past trauma still effects him. The time he spent playing video game and manga he turns to studying the languages of the world and magic (If we didn’t have tv we would probably do the same) We the audience and himself judge him with 21 centuries ethics since when can hear his thoughts. The people in the world see him as a kid. How do we judge his actions? By our standards or the standards of the environment he is in? Is in. Lawful Evil because we know the His thoughts behind his actions or a Lawful Good for how the people around him judge the action?

A show I think you should cover at some point is Akami Ga Kill, full of interesting characters there!
I forgot how much I like this show
I totally forgot the Nat 20 scene happened.

You ain’t wrong, but it implies it was normal before this.
Bombastic side eye.
Criminally offensive side eye.
I wonder how MacCready from the Thing would fare against the alignment system
probly good and either lawful or neutral
@anthonykafka42 yeah that is true but some of his actions are questionable, such as shooting Clark
Okay, let's dance
Any chance for an alignment video for Anon from Snoot Game? That would be the most hilarious video ever.
shiroe from log horizon would be cool.
The fan service in kill la kill is also very tasteful in the sense that everyone is naked not just the women.
that too!
What D&D alignment is Discord?
Chaotic. Just chaotic.
@@finnaldredge-byars7578 as a TLT fan i agree
Chaotic Naked
Hrm... bit of a new fan here, but I like that Ryuko started as a chaotic neutral. For an alignment with a VERY bad reputation at the table, it's kinda the opposite as a backstory start.
She has a goal, and is currently willing to do pretty much anything to do it. Ironically... it gives a chaotic character... focus.
"...Japanese, and that's an experience I just don't have" We know, we can hear you trying to pronounce the names =)
r00d
My 3rd favorite anime.
So she's cg at the end of the day
I thought I'd understand more about this show by watching this video
I'm still so confused
Mako is kind of in her own world most of the time, but I do see the date proposal being romantic. So I totally ship best gurl with protag gurl as Mako intended.
Now that it's finished, how about an Owl House alignment video?
eh...i've tried a few times to watch it and it's not clicking with me...i'll keep trying tho
@@TheLoadingCrew yeah, the first season is a little slow, because Disney had to Disney and meddled. The first season has some good episodes, but everything after episode 14 is fantastic.
Japanese teenegers are VERY ATTACHED with their School, since they expend the majority of their days inside the school (Classes, Clubs and Festivals), do to their society pushing really hard for they become "the exemplary officer worker of the company". When they graduate and this harsh reality become part of their lives, only their good friends will still to give they a hand.
I think its one of those show they wanted people to have there own takeaway
YOU WANT ME TO WHAT, LET ME GUESS, YOU'RE FROM THE PERVERT CLUB AND YOU'RE THE CAPTAIN?!
fucking LOL I need to watch this anime dubbed, oh my god, that shit was so fucking uncalled for in hilarity.
Day 2 of asking if you can do dnd aliments for re zero characters i think it would be real cool. Also you don't have to even if i ask for 100 days love your vids.
Let’s get scissoring!
That’s the catch phrase/one liner of scissor blade wielders, right?
I love Kill La Kill.
...At some point, now that you have done Kill la Kill, You should look into FLCL.
Killing evil is not evil
I absolutely hated Kill la Kill when it first came out, I was unable to get through the first few episodes and couldn't understand why people loved it so much. But you have made the strongest case i've ever heard to go back and give it another chance.
>Vows to tear down the clearly corrupt establishment
"Lawful Neutral"
😐
Making a vow of any kind is indeed Lawful. It's establishing a personal law.
"I vow to be chaotic!" "Lawful." "...What?"
Look, it doesn't work on either level.
@@JacksonJinn ye theres a few that are odd across this
A video on Violet Evergarden please!
Cool
If you want a smart
Mayuko is the best ship in anime.
Fight me
i raise you space battleship Yamamoto
Please do deku
Kill a kill is a great anime but is hard to recommend without seeming like a weirdo. That being said Mako is best girl. I will not debate you on this.
…I just realized that Kill La Kill can be seen as masterful indictment of Capitalism.
Is… Is Ryuko a Socialist hero?
Kill la Kill is a good Kamen Rider anime adaptation, but it’s a little overrated. Anyways fun video.
Never do this show again
lol i'm gona do it again
@@TheLoadingCrew Well now that I have the chance may I suggest Rocky Balboa maybe teen titans original. Also Transformers prime is really good as well.
