Thanks for this. I watched this and fixed my AC unit for a $34 capacitor at my local dealer. It went out on the weekend and I know this saved us $300 or more. Amazon had a match for $17 but I wanted to have it right away because of the temps today and tomorrow. Much appreciated.
I want to say thank you. For the past 4 days my central ac stop working and I use to push the fan just like you use to but it didn't last long and it's was so hot. So I went and bought the AC capacitor and just did the job myself thanks to your video and now everything works amazing. My AC has been with this house for the past 34 years so I do have an older one, but it's all the same thing. Thank you again
This worked for me! Two years ago I changed out the capacitor thinking it was bad. It turned out to be a bad fuse. AC guy said hold on to my old capacitor because it was still good and I might need it later. Two year later I did and it worked and of course it was on the weekend. Thanks for the video.!
Hell yeah! Thank you for this video saved me and my family…Our AC just suddenly stopped working at 11:30 at night in a 108 degree weather…Thank you, Awesome video
Thank you very much, you were very informative, I just had a service technician come out and change my capacitor, my AC unit fan was not running, $265.00 for the new capacitor. The technician was very helpful and informative, he advised me to clean out my outside AC unit coils with a garden hose at least once a season, he showed me how to do it. Mine was completely plugged up, I also need about 2 lbs. of the New Freon added, it was an expensive service call, but I learned a lot. I had no idea, my AC coils were that plugged up, it's hard to notice that unless you look closely at the fins.
Yep such easy maintenance is the key. Actually that wasn't a bad price. I know there are way more companies that charge alot more. Thanks for watching and commenting ☺

I could push the plunger in and the compressor and fan would kick on but the blower in the house wouldn't come on. I just put the new capacitor on but it's the same thing. Could use some advice please. I have a standard multimeter, but don't think there is a setting for microfarads, just regular ohms or do I not understand? When I turn on my unit, the fan isn't moving and I only hear a buzzing sound, I do know a fair bit about electronics, usually signals a bad capacitor...Thanks Mountain Man
What causes the fan struggle to turn when unit turns on, even after I replaced the capacitor? It spins once I have it a boost with a flat ruler. House is good and cool now. 75 degrees inside - was 90 inside here in the Rio Grande Valley of Texas.
@@MountaineerOutdoors Yes. Capacitor is good now. The very old capacitor burned out at the Common four-pronged connector with inner fluid oozing out a little. It was probably the original one from 1992 and a gray hard plastic, not shiny metal. So, I am wondering if a hung up fan caused the capacitor to fail. Everything works now and house is cool. It's so hot here that the unit has not kicked off at all so I can see if fan turns easily the next time it kicks on.

Thanks for sharing. My question: This capacitor activates and runs his big fan only or also the one, not visible in this video (I think called blower) which means blowing cool air inside a home?
Never assume that a capacitor has been discharged. Especially if it hasn't had power for any time. Caps are designed to hold a charge. Always properly discharge them before handling.

Now: Same morning replaced duct work in attic, now randomly the outside fan non functional. This time no buzzing. Not sure if I hit a wire or switch in attic or if two scenarios are coincidental and unrelated
Hello, thank you for the great video and clear instructions. My problem is the condenser starts and cools the house down for a minute or so but the fan never starts, even if I give it a first push. Then condenser stops. Do you think replacing the capacitor fix the issue?
I don't think so honestly. A capacitor is mainly for starting it holds electricity due to the in rush. I'm not a hvac guy but normally that's is what they are used for. Let me know what you find
@@MountaineerOutdoors thank you for your reply. Changing the capacitor didn't fix the issue. So I'm having someone to take a look at it because if I need to replace the motor i may need to spend the whole day 😃
@@MountaineerOutdoors It wasn't the motor. He had to change the control card ($371 )and thermistor ($100). So contrary to what I planned to spend on this ($13) it cost me 471 not including his first false diagnosis which was $400.
I live I am apartment, turned the air on late Friday night. An hour or so later it’s not cooling. I checked and the outside unit is it working, no sound or anything. They put in new furnace with a/c almost 2 years ago. Is there a way to tell if the fuse is bad outside without any meters?
Question, for when you get a chance.. My fan turns.. With bad capacitor it would even start going if i gave it a push.. However, i replace with new capacitor, and now it won’t even make the zoom noise and every 30 sec clicks it did before.. Any suggestions?
Hi my A/C motor is on and I am getting air in the house but its hot air and the fan outside is not turning on. The coils are clean and no frozen lines. Need help! Thanks
The fan on mine started howling like someone was mowing my lawn in the middle of the night. Waiting for the new motor yo arrive tomorrow. As preventative maintenance, I change the capacitors every 5 years and the transfer switch every 10 years. Sucks that the motor didn't make it to the 20 year switch.
Hey MO, in my case, the buzzing sound coming from the fan was only a blown fuse, located outside the fan on the stucco wall of our house, service call and repair just $100
My ax inside is running at 80 with air blowing. My central air outside is no activity. No noise. No spin Also what voltage reader should I pick up from Home Depot
Are you sure that your breaker inside your house isn't tripped? Or if you have a disconnect is it tripped? It could be a low voltage issue to your thermostat. Could be alot of little things. Here is a meter I do recommend from Amazon and the homedepot amzn.to/4bxXB8v www.homedepot.com/p/Klein-Tools-600-Volt-Digital-Multi-Meter-Manual-Ranging-MM325/320822947
I can tell you here but honestly if you Google air conditioner capacitor wiring diagram it would be alot easier. If you can't find it email me I'll screenshot it and sent it to you

Well typically I don't do ac work but anything that moves like the contactor inside the unit. Other than that anything electronic. If I can ever help holler at me
@@MountaineerOutdoors Hey man my other AC unit's capacitor is bad I think, the same exact problem fan won't spin but will spin after I help it spin, there is a humming noise it stop and comes. My ac turns off after 15-20 of running. It won't start up until 1-2 hours . The power company installed something to shut off my ac unit. Is it the thermostat or the device from the power company?
Called a HVAC guy to fix it and he kept trying to sell me a brand new ac system entirely. Took 30 minutes to replace the capactior and it works...

This is some good info Mike! Learned something. Thumbs up bro!
Richard from Kansas;)
Thanks... I felt like I should share something that a homeowner can do and that can save themselves money. I appreciate you watching and commenting. Glad you learned something from this
Man, super video! Love the screenshot of the chart as well. Still using this video in 2023! Sending some good Karma your way! BTW, what does it mean to wait for it to cycle 1 time?
Just make sure it comes on and goes off 1 time.
We changed out our capacitor but still fill is not working, what can it be? Motor?
Maybe hard to know
What meter would you recommend to ??
Other than my fluke this one is always my go to amzn.to/3lYEEXk
Thanks
Just would go over herm to 123 before attempting
Do you know?
How much voltage or an ampers that carries?I want to lose capacities if you touch the accisend.Just for kicks shits and giggles😂
No idea
2 months ago, fan would buzz but wouldnt engage unless we bumped it into monentum. Swapped capacitor. Problem fixed.
Now: Same morning replaced duct work in attic, now randomly the outside fan non functional. This time no buzzing. Not sure if I hit a wire or switch in attic or if two scenarios are coincidental and unrelated
It could definitely be not sure
Hello, thank you for the great video and clear instructions.
My problem is the condenser starts and cools the house down for a minute or so but the fan never starts, even if I give it a first push. Then condenser stops.
Do you think replacing the capacitor fix the issue?
I don't think so honestly. A capacitor is mainly for starting it holds electricity due to the in rush. I'm not a hvac guy but normally that's is what they are used for. Let me know what you find
@@MountaineerOutdoors thank you for your reply. Changing the capacitor didn't fix the issue. So I'm having someone to take a look at it because if I need to replace the motor i may need to spend the whole day 😃
So was it your motor?
@@MountaineerOutdoors It wasn't the motor. He had to change the control card ($371 )and thermistor ($100). So contrary to what I planned to spend on this ($13) it cost me 471 not including his first false diagnosis which was $400.
Well that sucked but at least now it's fixed. I'm sure your much happier
Thanks for your video
Wonderful today I am learning a new thing
Thanks
My pleasure glad that this helped
Thank you very much. Now, I just go ahead and buy a capacitor. I have the same problem.
My pleasure.. Glad this helped
I live I am apartment, turned the air on late Friday night. An hour or so later it’s not cooling. I checked and the outside unit is it working, no sound or anything. They put in new furnace with a/c almost 2 years ago. Is there a way to tell if the fuse is bad outside without any meters?
A Huge thank you I was able to fix my unit…. Thank you 🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽
My pleasure thanks for watching and commenting and glad you fixed it
Question, for when you get a chance.. My fan turns.. With bad capacitor it would even start going if i gave it a push.. However, i replace with new capacitor, and now it won’t even make the zoom noise and every 30 sec clicks it did before.. Any suggestions?
Maybe a bad contact block or weak transformer?
Hi my A/C motor is on and I am getting air in the house but its hot air and the fan outside is not turning on. The coils are clean and no frozen lines. Need help! Thanks
Sorry just now seeing this.. Did you get it fixed? Was it a capacitor?
@Mountaineer Outdoors Yes it was!
Great video Sir! Thanks for your insight!
My pleasure thanks for watching and commenting ☺
Thank you for saving my money!
My pleasure glad that this helped you ☺
Why my ac capacitor is 350/ 370 and I can't find anything the same must of them ar 370/440 is this works the same please help is 100 degrees,
I am not 100% sure. Maybe someone here can help with that. I usually always get the exact same thing as what I had. Good luck.
Where do you get a compressor from?
Maybe a hvac store or call air conditioner place. If you can see the information you probably can order from Amazon
That's good preventive maintenance for sure. Thanks for the comment and watching
Excellent video
Hey MO, in my case, the buzzing sound coming from the fan was only a blown fuse, located outside the fan on the stucco wall of our house, service call and repair just $100
Wow that's not too bad
Thanks for the guide. I was able to fix mine today
Awesome!!
thanks for the help,i know what ill be doing saturday
Good luck 🤞
My ax inside is running at 80 with air blowing.
My central air outside is no activity. No noise. No spin
Also what voltage reader should I pick up from Home Depot
Are you sure that your breaker inside your house isn't tripped? Or if you have a disconnect is it tripped? It could be a low voltage issue to your thermostat. Could be alot of little things. Here is a meter I do recommend from Amazon and the homedepot amzn.to/4bxXB8v

Thank you so so much for this video!!!!

thanks for all info

Can you tell me which wire goes to which in new cap? I got brown, blue, and yellow wire. (Old capacitor the words on top I am unable to see any)
I can tell you here but honestly if you Google air conditioner capacitor wiring diagram it would be alot easier. If you can't find it email me I'll screenshot it and sent it to you
@@MountaineerOutdoors Hey man thanks a lot for that I actually figured it out finally, my first time doing anything AC repair it was the capacitor. Question AC is 14 years old but still ok so after capacitor what other parts are likely to be damaged?: thanks for the video (later if I need more help, can I pm you questions? thanks)
Question but this capacitor it got 2 yellow wires in "common" so when I get the new capacitor, it doesn't matter which of the 4 "prong" in common that I plug those 2 yellow wires into right? just as long as it's into common?
I would have to see it. Google it there is alot of images on this and will show you exactly how to wire it up
My ac turns off after 15-20 of running. It won't start up until 1-2 hours . The power company installed something to shut off my ac unit. Is it the thermostat or the device from the power company?
Honestly not really sure that's something I'd have to look at for sure
Good video and thanks from hot San Antonio Texas and we're not in summer yet😤
Thanks I appreciate it) you watching and commenting ☺
