I love how anytime there is some absurd PC accessory I want to checkout you have a lengthy, rational, and detailed video on it. Decided to replace my aging Lightpack with this after watching. Thanks man!
@@TheProvokedPrawn I've also got a CRG9 so I wanted to be sure I got a kit that would fit.. and that's your monitor. Couldn't have been a more ideal review.
One thing to note for people with 34" Ultrawides is that horizontally a single 45cm strip will be too short, but two 45cm strips end-to-end would be too long. To get around this, join two 45cm strips using the 15cm extension wires that you get in the kit, and use the length that gives you to overlap about 10-15 cm of the two strips in the middle. it has no notable detrimental effect on the performance. I recently bought this kit and it seems that the 'magentic sliders' on the LED bars now have a groove on the sides, which corresponds with 'curled lip' on the sticky metal parts that attach to the monitor. By placing the lip and groove on the downside of the horizontal LED strips, you dont have to rely on magnetism alone to keep the strip in place.
I dont know if they had them at the time but they also sell 350mm strips which in pairs would be perfect for the top and bottom of a 34" ultrawide but you would need 4 of them as well. All comes down to how you get them I suppose. This setup is a little pricy to begin with and I have a stacked monitor setup so would need the starter kit, a 350 kit and an extra 250 kit which would leave me with an extra 450 unless I put that at the top of my ultrawide that is on the bottom of the stack to add some extra light directly in the center behind them for some bleed over I guess, or I could use it as an accent light on a separate channel somewhere maybe.
You probably would have found it easier to install if you had set the placements of the clips on the light bar, placed all the magnet stickers on the clips, taken all their stickers off and then placed the bar on your monitor, that way all of your stickers would have been in the correct place and then you could have just taken the light bar off and used a bit of pressure to ensure they were properly stuck on the monitor.
It's the first video using a UHD monitor (i think the size of yours seems to be around 40"), thanks a lot for that and the relevant test and advices ;)
As a self confessed corsair RGB addict I am extremely interested in this kit! Although I have heard the ambient video lighting option in iCUE conflicts with Gsync monitors. If this is a true its a no go for me as Gsync is essential. Did you have any experience using it on a Gsync monitor?
@@gmanuk1986 it's a good kit if you like static lighting hues. Personally I'd recommend Philips Hue instead. Their light sync system is superior and more convincing. @@TheProvokedPrawn ta thanks your thoughts. I will look into Phillip's hue but I do already have a ton of corsair RGB stuff. It would be nice to not have to install more RGB software
I bought these yesterday! I have the same monitor shown in the video, and the strips look cool! However, the quality control is ABSURDLY BAD in comparisson to the the price you're paying for these. The magnets provided are very weak and they just would not hold the strips in place. After a bunch of double-sided tape and over an hour of frustration, i finally got them to hold in place. I got this recently, it’s really annoying that you can only do the video sync effect on one channel, I was hoping I could have had additional lights on the outside of my desk using the 2nd channel on the controller. Also lights don’t seem that bright in the video sync mode, ok in the dark though.
Question: when you put your computer to sleep/shut off, does the light shut off too? I would be willing to spend extra on this if I can save myself hassle tuning it on/off every night.
I really love those but my only issue is I have 1 ultra wide monitor and 1 27 inch monitor, i think the lights effects will be weird if connected to one monitor or both of them
What is the damn splitter cable for that came with the expansion? Seems like it's for extra power maybe but also i got no clue. I kept having them fall, really need to use the wire clips to help support the lights. I did it with dual curved monitors. They really don't wanna bend for the curve. Magents are the worst way to mount for this. I would have liked if they snapped on instead.
I plug everything in and stuff but they won’t turn on nor will they come up in iCUE. Do u know who’s to fix this? And btw, mine didn’t come with that power cable looking thing at the very top left. Is that separate for smth else or for this? (Ls100)
