  • Since I arrived in Germany via the Eider river, I enter the Nord-Ostsee Canal, or Kieler Canal half way at Gieselau. People complain about the boringness of this canal, but because this is the first time for me, there is enough to see. The journey seems to go smooth overall until I found out that the remote of both bow- and stern thruster does not work, the wind is astern AND I am already in the Kiel-Holtenau locks and must dock within a couple of seconds. Oops. But before that occurs, we have a wonderfull journey.

    Cams aboard Lady Liselot. Check them out on Amazon: amzn.to/3P5jFxP (but the silly thing is: these amzn.to/3T1AYB2 almost are alike).
    The 4 camera's I use to produce my outdoor footage, are so called PTZ - P(an) T(ilt) Z(oom). Zoom, I only use on the rear camera, when I am underway. As you have seen I use the pan and tilt a lot. And in the dark they produce a great (short view) infrared image. I even can navigate in a marina at night on my cams.
    Since they all are so called "IP camera's", each have an unique (hardwired) IP address (no DNS) in my network.

    Bound for Sweden. P6. Cold-blooded vs Stressful. Thrusters Do Not Work In The Holtenau Locks; s4/e29
    This channel follows a format: "Join Henk-Jan, whilst he cruises on motorvessel Lady Liselot through The Netherlands and a little further". That's it. This automatically means: no boat tour and no boat jobs. These subjects do not fit the format. So, I aim to give you a feel for what life's like aboard for me and hope you enjoy it, perhaps relate to it or maybe even learn something. But it's simply my story and the way I do things. Nothing more, nothing less.

    Nederlands.

    Henk-Jan, I took your advice and am enjoying a Saturday afternoon sitting on the banks of the St. Croix River, Minnesota with the dogs, sipping a pint of Guinness, watching the boat traffic on the river, and of course, watching your weekly video! Cheers. Dan😎

      Hey Dan. Cheers to you. There is a Dutch singer who has a song: "Look at me, whilst I watch the grass grow. And man, I am way to busy for other things." I know that feeling. Being in the moment. All you can do.

    Another excellent video. I always like videos of the Kiel Canal since there is usually a good amount of traffic sailing along and you get a good view of the ships. From time to time I like to watch at the webcam at the lock!

    Nice passage through Kiel Canal. The locks at Holtenau and Brunsbüttel are stressful for the first time, but one gets used to it as long as there is no big ship where one has to share the lock with. If you have to share a lock with one of these big guys, beware of the propeller stream when passing.
    Thanks for sharing the Püschowhafen anchor spot... while sailing this area for 20 years, I was not at that spot yet :) Heikendorfer Reede is quite nice, too, but yes, can be uncomfortable at strong westerly winds. So you made a good choice!
    BTW when travelling back, I recommend going through Brunsbüttel and stay a night at the Brunsbüttel marine in the canal (not the one outside). It's a very interesting spot where you can watch all the big ships entering the huge lock.

      Hey Julian, I really do not understand the rings. Denmark, Sweden, no one has cleats, all have these rings, which are bad for singlehanded because one has to get of the boat or help from a neighbor but I think that mooring option is very dangerous. Very unsafe. Oh, and my tanks are almost empty so I will make a pitstop at Helgoland again to pickup 2000 ltr. The Eider is the best starting point for that jump.

    • @JulianBuss
      @JulianBuss 24 дня назад

      @@MVLadyLiselot I agree, rings are a pain when traveling solo. I have no clue why rings are used at all, I can't see any advantage of this mooring option either.
      Have a nice stay on Helgoland, when you get there it should be much less crowded than last time :)
      If you're there and you didn't already walk around the island on the Oberland: I can highly recommend it. And note all the explanations along the way, they tell a lot about the interesting history of Helgoland.

    I don't know much about boating, so I have a question or two.
    Is it perfectly fine to use only one engine at a time if you have two? I thought both had to be running at the same speed.
    I dream about my own boat one day, and I have a lot to learn then.

    • @MVLadyLiselot
      @MVLadyLiselot  19 дней назад +1

      Two engines is just handy for maneuvering. So I have two running when I maneuver, but other than that, you can run one engine. You have to be aware of the drives (between engine and prop) you have.
      There are drives which heat up during 'freewheeling'.
      But... I have "Velvet" drives and the manual states:
      On the Velvet transmissions, passive turing of the prop shaft also turns the oil pump and no damage to the transmission can ensue.
      Freewheeling: "It has been determent bij tests and practical experience that all Velvet Drive Marine Transmissions can be freewheeled without risking damage in sailing or trolling applications."
      Caution should be taken to be sure that proper oil level is maintained during freewheeling as well as normal running.
      Freewheeling one propellor on a two engine boat at trolling speed will not cause damage to the transmission connected to the freewheeling propellor."

    Sanity- a few minutes of sanity after watching World News!

    • @MVLadyLiselot
      @MVLadyLiselot  25 дней назад +3

      Perhaps you already know, that I stopped watching the news. First, it’s old news and most of the time they share only the (very) negative info.
      To me it feels as poison for my mind and since I do not drink poison, why should I listen and watch poison? My opinion and (as always one agrees with himself…) since I stopped absorbing negativity, things do look more positive. Duhuh. I know.
      Mother Theresa once said:”If you invite me for a protest against war, I will not attend. When you invite me for a protest for peace, I am the first to be there.”
      But that’s the same! Nope it’s not. The first makes you shout and relive negativity for as long as the protest goes on, the second concentrates on positivity.
      Little change in words, enormous impact.
