Out of all the home video versions of American movie studio logo animations I've seen, I think this one is the best. It really hypes up watching a major motion picture at home. In my opinion, this one right here is a prime example of studios today not making use of their home logo animations in theaters. They're usually the better ones, if you ask me!
I wish that logo would come back today now, LOVE THIS MUSIC, ITS FITTING PERFECT! Every time I hear that tune, It sounds like the actors and actresses going through Hell’s hard work, flawless acting and discipline to make a movie very amazing, iconic and phenomenal.... like Judy Garland for an example........

Yes Every time when the MGM UA Home Video logo pops up, I would immediately know that The Wizard of Oz is playing I used to have this 1996 VHS and then the 1999 vhs when I was very young
That's the way to start off a movie with a bang! And I wish movies would close with a bang using a logo like this like movies did in the old days instead of having the anti-climatic credits that run on forever and ever.
I remember back in New Jersey when all my friends and cousins were at home at night we were getting ready for a movie premiere we had food, snacks, drinks the whole shebang we picked an MGM movie and this logo came up we were excited to see the movie it was those times
i used to be scared of this logo as a kid as it played on my vhs of the pebble and the penguin. as a teen (and now adult), i finally got my act together around this logo and just like b x dawn in tdri, have a soft side for this logo now

This logo can be found on some VHS tapes made between 1993-1998. I remember seeing this on my VHS copies of All Dogs Go To Heaven, From Russia With Love, and Goldeneye.
Today(7-5-17), I typed myself doing this video. I made up my own choreography(not the dance type)for this. I laid down on my bed, pretended to be unconscious, stood up and bowed.
It comes to no surprise as even in the 2020's, this showed up on a bargain bin/dollar store reprint of All Dogs Go To Heaven along with other MGM DVDs from this period lacking an updated master.
I have this on the 1997 DVD of Rocky which is a (1998) reprint with the MGM Home Entertainment print logo stamped on the cover, it could be a mystery behind the 1998 reprints of MGM/UA Home Video DVD releases from 1997.
When I was really little, I was hoping the opening part would go to something else because I was afraid of the famous Leo Lion, but it didn't. It went to the famous Leo Lion.

Who ever composed this theme deserves a gold medal!
Let me guess, John Williams.
Nope. David Engel
No they deserve a platinum medal.
🏅🏅🏅🎼
Fun fact: the theme is based off of the opening to MGM's Wizard of Oz movie from 1939

Whoever did the fanfare is gonna earn a single gold medal for this, yo
The composer was the one who composed the fanfare, so he totally deserves a gold medal for it, bro
One of the best home video logos ever (in my opinion)! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Some of this music is "Glinda's Fanfare" which is also the first six beats we hear as the MGM roars in the logo before "The Wizard of Oz"

I actually watched The Wizard of Oz, and I can personally confirm that.

I remember many memories of both this and the THX logo on Wizard of Oz 1998 VHS that one of my logophile friends gave me.
I think you mean 1996.
Yes
Every time when the MGM UA Home Video logo pops up, I would immediately know that The Wizard of Oz is playing
I used to have this 1996 VHS and then the 1999 vhs when I was very young
Same for me with Goldeneye
One of the best logos known to man. When I was younger, I liked the closing one more because I didn't like that the opening one froze Leo 😂😂😂
Leo is a tigon panther
One of my favorite childhood memories is listening to this music before watching "The Wizard of Oz" on VHS. Major nostalgia trip.
I had a nightmare about the mgm lion home video.

Always loved MGM known for making grand elegant films
I remember going to watch a Peewee's playhouse VHS and always seeing this its SO NOSTALGIC!
They should have used this for the new logo before the movie starts
I agree! And just update the film reels part with ALL the lions up to present day.
Bring me back memories of seeing MGM
From now on, Warner Bros. distributes all movies on DVDs and Blu-Rays
I remember this from some old Pee Wee's Playhouse videos along with Wizard of Oz. Good memories.
My absolute favorite MGM/UA logo.
This scared me as a kid. It was on my Grinch VHS from 1996
Oh I agree with that too it scare me I was 8 years old

I hope they remake this for their 100th year anniversary with all the lions in the reel part.

Notice how the closing sounds like the 2006 CBS Evening News theme composed by James Horner.

Yes, they did. I know the MGM DVD print of "Red Dawn" has this for sure.
