Although they were aging, TBL losing players like Lecavalier and St.Louis in 2013 and 14 helped build them into the dominant team we see today. Marty St.Louis had an Art Ross winning season in 2013 and was leading the team in points when he was traded for Ryan Callahan. Marty actually ended up leading the team in points anyway despite being traded away at the deadline.

Seriously for subban we have to understand that when price was injured, neither Weber or Pk was able to help the team make the playoffs. When they finish bottom at the bottom with subban, price was injured. Then again maybe the locker room atmosphere got better but 2010 and 2014, when the habs made the eastern finals, pk and price were the core of the team. Weber in his career never reached further the 2nd round. Thus not so sure about that one. However I will admit subban needs to bounce back this year in order to remain an elite dman

Quick note: Karlsson and Stone never wanted to leave Ottawa, they weren't being offered deals close to market value. Karlsson stated publicly that he was never presented a contract offer and that he hadn't spoken to Ottawa ownership in almost a year. Basically that whole saga comes back to Melnyk

Karl Alzner leaving the Caps for the Habs due to the Caps playoff fails, and the Caps win the cup the next season while Alzner is stuck on a rough team?
    -or

Canucks lost Pavel Bure in a trade to the Florida Panthers. Loss of the most exciting player to ever wear a Canucks jersey eventually led Vancouver's management to sign a free agent in the hopes of restoring some star-power to the franchise. That player was Mark Messier. Dark times ensued...Dark times.

I totally disagree about the Islanders. They got better during the 18-19 season due to better coaching and management. Once Lou Lam and Barry Trotz were hired, the team were set on track with more experience people in leadership. Once the players believed in Trotz’s system, they thrived together as a unit. Garth Snow was a horrible GM and never surrounded Tavares with talent. Jack Capuano should have been let go a long time ago. Not the right man to steer the helm.

I mean I agree with you. But it ironically happened after losing their franchise player

I'm just getting over LaFontaine leaving Islanders..that hurt much more than John Robot 🤖 Tavares. #thereal16
