(This will wipe the data on the drive)I’m probably late but all you need to do is go to disk utility, locate the drive, on the top there should be a box with the text under it that says erase, under the name text box should be format then a box to select things, click the box and choose ExFAT, after that you hit erase and that should fix the problem

I have to say it is very confusing how you solve the problem. Did you go to macOS Recovery and run the command lines? Did you get your files back?
