- Promoting the new album "So Much For the Afterglow," Everclear perform a short set at HMV TD Square in Calgary. Turnout was grossly underestimated and things got a bit out of hand.
Thank you for uploading this video. I saw them that year on tour. What an awesome time that was to be an Everclear fan or a fan of alternative rock music in general,.
Ryan Ellis!! Thanks for posting this! This is the first time I’ve seen this. I was working there that day, right in the thick of everything. All we could do was stand back, with our mouths open, watching this unfold. It was simultaneously awesome and surreal. If memory serves correct, there was a few thousand dollars in damage, but nobody was hurt. And surprisingly, I don’t think we had much stuff stolen (well, that we were aware of). Also, not a single cell phone in the crowd. What a different time. Thanks for bringing it all back!
That's Awesome to see people pogo-ing and rockin' out in a record store \m/
The difference between Everclear then and now is nuts. So much energy back then, not to mention Art still had his voice. And Greg slams on those drums. I mean I get why Art's still carrying on, but they've got to be the band I listen to that has steadily declined the most. I wish I wasn't a kid so I could've seen them here!
Everclear isnt really "Everclear" anymore & hasnt been for about 20 years. But Art has kept consistently writing decent material(imo), releasing records with a cavalcade of lineups, & touring for that time span. No, his material doesnt have that lightning in a bottle/right time right place/ punk+grunge sound it had in the mid90s. But no artist can just keep doing the same thing over & over again forever. Every artist matures, changes, & evolves. i was born in PDX in '83 & grew up there, so Everclear, the Dandy Warhols, & Elliott Smith/Heatmiser were the absolute gods of the scene when i was coming up into teenagerdom. But there were some other great acts like Pond, SleaterKinney, Hazel, Lifesavas, Pink Martini, Dead Moon, Kind of Like Spitting, Quasi, the Minders, that made some great musical contributions to the 503 around that time. Poison Idea, the Wipers, Neo Boys, & Theatre of Sheep really developed the 80's Portland scene. And i guess the earliest rock legends outta the rose city are The Kingsmen. But Alexakis will always be up there when it comes to Oregon's musical elite. At least imo.
This was in the infancy of the internet and before social media when everything was still mostly word of mouth. People still listened to the radio to hear new stuff. Look at this turnout for an in store performance.
Before "I Will Buy You A New Life," that's actually "El Distorto de Melodica" playing. Great video though, really cool seeing this.

It seems like a record store is both a terrible and great place to hold a concert. Seems like Everclear showed up.
I am sure there were a few shoplifted CD's. I think I saw that kid in the red hat stuff one into his shirt!
5:17 was that from a human??
