    Nice build. The only thing that I'm going to do differently is to thread the rope handle section through a length of rubber garden hose to create sturdy handles without the rope burn.

      That’s a great idea! I used the softest rope I could find at Lowe’s and so far so good, but I can imagine during a longer workout it could prove an issue. Let me know how it works out, I’d love to know!

      @@harvestblades I actually tossed mine out back in January because it was leaking more sand than I was willing to continue tolerating.
      Mine lasted almost 2 years, though I started getting a little bit of leakage around the 6 month mark that got slowly worse. Id say I got my money’s worth.
      Maybe using some kind of sealant between the rope and the tube would have helped, but I didn’t really expect it to be a long term solution. I just had more time than money at that point in time haha.
      For the most part, if at all possible, an individual is better off just buying one in my opinion.

    I have a 5 kg Bulgarian bag that I've bought, I want to add some weight to it to about 7,5 kg (I've tried the 10 kg one and I feel it's too heavy for my lower back) I'm not sure what to do and how to do it. Anyone? Thank you!

  • @whitemiata
    @whitemiata 4 года назад +3

    How has the bag held up? I can get a tube and sand for about $15 or I can buy a pre-made bag from Titan with a 3 year warranty (1 from Titan, 2 from my Credit Card) for about $45 so durability would be a significant concern

    • @natebirner
      @natebirner  4 года назад +4

      Good question. After a few months of relatively irregular use (1x a week or so) sand started seeping out when going overhead and such. Now several months later it’s still “in tact” but kind of a nuisance getting all gritty and sandy every time I use it 😂
      So in hindsight... if you’re dirt poor and that $30 is a difference maker, it will get the job done. But if you’re certain that you will be using it regularly, I would go ahead and purchase a new one honestly.

    • @whitemiata
      @whitemiata 4 года назад +2

      @@natebirner Thank you for your response! Frankly the $30 isn't an obstacle but I have to admit that I LOVE making stuff myself and I also like the idea of being able to experiment with different weights as I have no idea what weight might work best for me... may I ask when you say the sand is seeping out do you mean from the handles or is the bag failing in some other way and causing sand to come out? I had already considered that it might be useful to use rubber cement and/or silicone sealant right around the area where the zip ties lives to prevent sand from coming out. We'd be using this outdoors so I'm not TERRIBLY concerned about minor seepage anyway.

    • @natebirner
      @natebirner  4 года назад +2

      @@whitemiata it only seeps from the ends where the rope comes out of the tube. It’s not that bad, and wouldn’t bother me outdoors too much. I just don’t want to have to sweep out my gym every time I use it!
      In the end it doesn’t cost much and it didn’t take much time, so if you think you’ll enjoy the process knock yourself out! I don’t regret it by any means.
      This was my first and only attempt too, so you may do a better job than I did 😉

    • @natebirner
      @natebirner  4 года назад +5

      Hey thanks Ruben! I didn’t put it on a scale but managed to fit the majority of a 50lb bag of sand into it. About 45lbs. I didn’t have much experience with them and it’s pretty intense, in hindsight I might have added some rubber mulch or something to save a little weight. Inner tubes size I used was 23x8.50/9.50/10.5-12

      Honestly like I mentioned in another comment a second ago, in hindsight I would just shell out for a pre made one if possible. It’s held together fine but leaks a bit and it’s annoying. Was a fun experiment though!
