Berserk is a masterpiece, that very few works of art can hope to catch up to. but you know what else is a masterpiece? THE EDITING IN THIS FUCKING VIDEO OH MY GOD, the animation and editing in this video is god tier. It's not easy to handle manga in a video essay, and this video does it flawlessly
The intro to this video is iconic, even years after first seeing this video I had to come back to witness the raw peak. Seriously this is by far the HARDEST INTRO TO ANY VIDEO EVER MADE IN HISTORY!
Guts is a character that feels so genuine and human.... and yet so unrealistic. In this day and age we have so much control over how we present to others and consequently we strive to only show and acknolwedge the "good and beautiful" parts of ourselves. Meanwhile, Guts is willing to embrace the duality, darkness and complexity of being human. Its so admirable that it seems to draw people to him but also leaves Guts largely isolated... sincerity towards the duality and complexity of the human condition is something I'm sure readers find admirable in Guts, but that most would fail to replicate in their own lives. Guts is ultimately more dang human than any of us! 😍
the very crux of jungian psychology, which is what makes the dichotomy between Guts and Griffith so fucking fascinating, one who embraces and ones who represses
This video is MASSIVE my man, wonderfully edited and with an incredible selection of panels and music to boot. You're making some of the best content on manga/anime out there, no lie. Keep doing your thing, for real.
Imagine what went through my head when, after finishing the Berserk anime for the first time (and desperately wanting for more), I went looking for images of Berserk from google and noticed a page from the manga. After looking at it closer I realized it depicted a scene that had not happened in the anime. At that point I realized ”Wait, the story continues!?” I can't describe the numerous feelings that went through me at that moment. I still remember that first page of the manga that I saw then. It's a scene from volume 2 when Guts finally confronts the apostle count in his throne room.
@@nkyfong Well it can leave my friends behind as well. I hear it clang every time it hits something in Band of the Hawk and there's just enough metal on most of the enemies for me to not care

Dang, this video is beautiful!
This editing gives me a dissociative experience. I didn't expect this quality, altho i must say in the short time that i have watched few of your videos, they always struck me as very well made. For some reason, I only now realize how much effort is put into the extra bits of animation. It's awesome. God what is it with everyone getting a boner for studio boner when it comes to berserk, because they did full metal alchemist brotherhood and...... full metal alchemist brotherhood? Fuckin wit studio anyone? Why is it always madhouse and studio bones, they’re great and all and madhouse did great on death note, death parade, and some other good stuff, but wit studio did attack on titan and Vinland saga which are two of the most thematically and similar in tone shows/ manga to berserk I can think of, they were able to capture the complex feelings and tones of the multi-layered and morally gray characters and world so well through the music, sounds, animation, and everything else. I say we should give it to the studio with the best chance to pull it off considering their 2 most successful shows
@@DJMeriMero It is the brand of sacrifice. The ones who are meant to get sacrificed in the eclipse are marked by it. Guts's brand of sacrifice symbolizes his connection to the astral/ demonic world.

This video was one of the best I've ever watched on this platform, and I'm on youtube pretty much every day (usually for a few hours at least). I've often struggled (haha) to describe both to myself and others what exactly it is about Berserk that makes it one of the closest stories to my heart. You may never see this, but I truly believe if I ever need to describe to anyone why I love Berserk (and in the off chance that they're willing to watch a 30 minute video to do it) I'll come back here. I was that one guy who into manga and anime, especially the former who talk about Berserk occasionally sometimes but never come to read it. Just like any other of that one guy I joked about Idolmaster too much and think only Berserk to be high regarded for its dark fantasy. How wrong I was when I open the page of the manga this year. Berserk is a story that goes beyond its bleak and dark setting. It actually revealed to me how dark fantasy is a misnomer that only does great disservice to the very magnum opus that Miura currently creating. Whenever I thought what is the theme of Berserk, only one word come to my mind: love. It is truly a love story. One that rooted in ancient tradition of Greek tragedy. Berserk might be started as edgy, fantasy manga which proclaimed to be dark. But Miura, a master storyteller he is took his very first serialization into a new height. A height that elevates Berserk into a summit that rarely, if ever, any other manga had ever reached. Your video is well made. But what truly makes me love and resonates with it is how you emphasize the more emphatic, more sentimental side of Berserk that usually forgotten amidst the mistaken praise for its dark setting and obnoxious idolmaster meme. For that, I thank you.

A couple of years ago I visited Denmark, where Vikings originated from. I remember reading in a museum about berserkers, or warriors that would lose all sense of fear and pain on the battlefield. Berserkers would bite on their shields (if they had any armor at all) and were compared to bears (I guess the origin of the word berserker comes from the old Norse word for “bear”). Once the battle was over though berserkers were kind and gentle (or as gentle as you can be during those times). I wonder if Miura thought about that when he picked the title of his work...
i read a very similar adaptation on berserkers where they became as frail as infants because of all the adrenaline leaving them after a battle. Not saying your wrong at all, as both are believable and perhaps entirely true all the same
I normaly watch couple of videos before subscribing but this was so beautiful i didn't even realize it was over 30 minutes. I try to get people into berserk but they can't stand the blood and gore and never bother. It's honestly my favorite manga.

The eclipse was a scarring scene, for Guts, Casca and us readers too, I wasn't prepared 21 years ago, and I still feel empty, betrayed, desolate and hopeless at it..... and I also still hope that Guts escapes and reaches Casca every time, every time man.....
I’ve never felt a deeper connection to characters in a story than I have with the characters in Berserk. It’s such an amazing work of art.
Finally somebody made a non boring, impressively edited Berserk explanation example.
I've been searching RUclips for a decade to find a good one.
Your editing is impressive and I recommend you make a series of these. You will go far. I appreciate your work. I do graphic design, photography and media so I fully understand the endless nights of empty beer cans, headaches and so much time lost to making something like this.
It paid off, just know that. You have my respect in the deepest regard, along with Miura himself. Long live Berserk and its impressive world.
Rest in peace Miura. A true master of his craft and a storyteller to rival the best. Such a tragedy
To be a Berserk fan is to struggle. Especially now...
RIP Miura. We’ll miss you.
I'm typing with my feet, because I'm clapping with my hands.
Typing with my cock and balls since both my feet and hands are clapping, im also banging my head on the wall
your hands aren't the only things that are clapping.
I love this video! This is just such a huge love letter to the Berserk series. I didnt expect you to go into the game and motion comic too. Thank you so much for all the time this video must have taken to make.
If he did those motion panels from the manga looking things he did an amazing job, and I love it.
"fall in love with characters who may, or may not have done anything wrong" was such a perfect line. Such a good video
This is perhaps the greatest tribute a fan could ever make. You should be proud
"I love BERSERK" thank you for saying in such a unapologetic and heartfelt way. We are the strugglers 🗡
That intro single handedly made this the best Berserk video essay I’ve ever seen. The visual effects and editing were astounding. Amazing job.
I return to this video to share my pain with others that heard the news today. Rest in peace Miura.
I got into Berserk after my grandmother died she was very special to me, and berserk was my escape and safe place, im so happy to see a video so full of love for the series, it realy shows how the comunity of Berserk is always together and hopeing for the next chapter no matter how long it takes to come out, thank you for this very special video that explains exactly why... Why we love Berserk.
Sorry for the bad english

Berserk is a masterpiece, that very few works of art can hope to catch up to.
but you know what else is a masterpiece? THE EDITING IN THIS FUCKING VIDEO
OH MY GOD, the animation and editing in this video is god tier. It's not easy to handle manga in a video essay, and this video does it flawlessly
Berserk being a masterpiece may be ruined
If mirua doesn’t finish the fucking series.
He is the embodiment of Nietzsche's ubermensch
@@norseca542 would you ever go on a podcast to break this down for people? Iv heard alot about this philosophy but want to learn more, via deep convo

This video is MASSIVE my man, wonderfully edited and with an incredible selection of panels and music to boot. You're making some of the best content on manga/anime out there, no lie. Keep doing your thing, for real.
Mauler fan?
Its so rare to be able to talk to anyone who he even knows what Berserk is... videos like this go a long way. You crushed this video man. Respect
REST IN POWER KENTARO MIURA WE'LL ALWAYS LOVE YOUR CONTRIBUTION TO THIS BEAUTIFUL MEDIUM OF MANGA FOREVER.
🙏🏿🙏🏿🙏🏿
I come back every couple of months to pay tribute to a true fan... thank you again my friend.
especially on this day of days...
Which anime?,
The good or the shit one?
Nathaniel Fong the first one. Though my feelings about it have mellowed with time. Now I'd rank the movie trilogy above it.
Gudo!
@@RabbitShirak the 97 adaptation is better in my opinion cover more things, the movie has great scene but stories rushed
That intro was a sight to see. Love the editing throughout the entire video, it follows the narration really well.
Y'know what? Dragonslayer is a multidimensional sword, it can clang if it wants to.
Well yes, but actually no.
@@nkyfong Well it can leave my friends behind as well. I hear it clang every time it hits something in Band of the Hawk and there's just enough metal on most of the enemies for me to not care
@@DoomRater, in that case yes.
this review, no, documentary must be the greatest and most insightful analyzation of berserk i have ever seen. I really appreciate how you think of every feature from several points of view disregarding your own opinions, yet still including them as recommendations because you are a die hard fan after all. Your visuals are astonishing and the honesty this video shines is wonderful. I do not see it as a possibility that anyone who hadn't heard of berserk before this video isn't now determined to read it in it's entirety.
Videos like this make me fall in love with Berserk all over again! Thank you fellow struggler for the care and passion you put into this.
These videos are precisely why I believe that the perfect Berserk anime would be to getting the manga art and animating It, no coloring, no redesign, no drawing from scratch, just the manga art, animated, a good voice acting, some neat soundtrack and zip It to the world... Dang, this video is beautiful!
I had to return to this video after the news. One of the best tributes to Berserk in existence.
Rest in peace, Miura-sensei.
RIP Kentaro... rewatching this today and mourning 😔
“To be a Beserk fan, you have to struggle”
Looks like Gutts really left an impression on us Beserk fans, Nice!
This editing gives me a dissociative experience. I didn't expect this quality, altho i must say in the short time that i have watched few of your videos, they always struck me as very well made. For some reason, I only now realize how much effort is put into the extra bits of animation. It's awesome. Thanks - especially for all those videos about all those series I have been interested in for the longest time
We need Madhouse to animate this masterpiece.
season 1 is an amazing 10/10 adaptation
never get a season 2
@@Maznator Agreed, give it to bones instead
Better Bones
I say we should give it to the studio with the best chance to pull it off considering their 2 most successful shows
Give that shit to David productions they know how to make an adaptation 😳

I love Berserk, but this video is a masterpiece on itself. Wow!
Nerowinger619 because it’s a fan overview about Berserk, done right
What does your symbol mean? I’ve seen it in the manga too..
@@DJMeriMero It is the brand of sacrifice. The ones who are meant to get sacrificed in the eclipse are marked by it. Guts's brand of sacrifice symbolizes his connection to the astral/ demonic world.
I hope this helps. I dont know how much of the manga you have read...
@@Nerowinger619 in new to this, but i had another image if Guts and Griffin, i thought they were good guys speaking with Gods and angels, until Griffin desperated from his sickness and sacrifices his everything to be healed again but instead he became a demon so that Angel from the sky (i think angel of death) came down after all so take Guts and his girlfriend back to heaven. But i only saw the eclipse, maybe i should watch everything from start.
i love this video. the amount of care and effort you put into this is amazing. the way you breakdown the beauty of berserk; the intricate storytelling, layered/complex characters, art-both beautiful and horrifying is what distinctly makes it berserk.
This video was one of the best I've ever watched on this platform, and I'm on youtube pretty much every day (usually for a few hours at least). I've often struggled (haha) to describe both to myself and others what exactly it is about Berserk that makes it one of the closest stories to my heart. For me, I could only get it down to a particular feeling. Something that I couldn't nail down enough to feel as though I'd done it justice in describing it. In my opinion, you've done that.
You may never see this, but I truly believe if I ever need to describe to anyone why I love Berserk (and in the off chance that they're willing to watch a 30 minute video to do it) I'll come back here. You helped me to better understand in words why this property is so important to me.
Thank you for caring, fellow struggler. Love your other work as well.
This is your best video. Not cause others were bad. But because this one is so good. Thank you, man. Thank you so much.
Another fantastic video editing and narrative art, THANK YOU !
I won't know peace until the manga is finished with a superbly adapted anime.
I really hope they re-make it
I've come back to watch that first minute so many times. The music, your excellent voiceover and godly editing...it's too perfect.

The editing in this video is very impressive, would love to know how you brought motion to the images in such a natural looking way
Had to come back to this video to say: Rest in Peace, Kentaro Miura
"That thing was too good to be called a video. Too big, too thick, too heavy, and too rough, it was more like a large hunk of documental."
I love you
I found myself back here twice since the author passed. This is the video I link when I share your work to others. I had Guts theme playing as I walked down the street if Ul'dah in final fantasy xiv with wall to wall players standing before bonfires and gigantic swords lining the street end to end in tribute. I have not finished watching the video yet but man you did a wonderful job with the editing in this one!! I was so focused on the flow of pictures and manga panels for a few seconds that I failed to comprehend what you were actually saying. Just … mind blowing.
It's amusing how the man who has so expertly crafted berserk has been addicted to something like idolmaster to the point of hiatuses.
Well that's not confirmed in any way to be the reason for his hiatuses

Man you deserve 100x the subs you have. Your videos are amazing and you are an amazing storyteller.
Was planning on just listening to this commentary in the background, but ended up watching for the whole 38 minutes.
The painstaking effort in the video mirrors the effort put into the Berserk manga.
Man I love how you mentioned the bloopers
I love them so much. I can't imagine watching Berserk 1997 in anything but english, the VAs are so great
I was that one guy who into manga and anime, especially the former who talk about Berserk occasionally sometimes but never come to read it.
I'm completely blown away by the quality of the editing in the manga section, I can only imagine how much time it must've taken. This video would be worth watching for the visuals alone.
This video needs so much more recognition. It's too good for anyone interested in any form of media to not look at.
This is probably the best video about berserk I've seen. Great work, thanks
Hey Joe!
Just want to say you're awesome. And I'm so stoked to stumble apon your channel. The way you see stuff that I over look gives me a greater appreciation for these films and I feel a sense of pride that my taste for anime is very much in line with yours. Most of what you have covered in your channel so far are all up there as my favorites. I'm gutted that I have now caught up on all your videos (just in this last week). Can't wait to sit down and watch this Berserk piece! Berserk is my all time favorite, apart from the most recent series (look what they did to my boy..)
I'm going to make a Patreon account just to show my appreciation.
Not saying your wrong at all, as both are believable and perhaps entirely true all the same
Cool. So the vikings had armor made from dwarves
I normaly watch couple of videos before subscribing but this was so beautiful i didn't even realize it was over 30 minutes. I try to get people into berserk but they can't stand the blood and gore and never bother. It's honestly my favorite manga.
This is easily one of the most impressive independently made videos I've seen on RUclips. I'm absolutely floored by your production quality. Can't imagine how much time and effort it must have taken you to make, and it really paid off. Amazingly well done, and I can't wait to check out more of your content when I finish watching this video. Dropped a like and a sub.
Thank you so much for this comment :) it's so validating to have someone recognize these efforts, and makes it worth it to make sure these videos are the best I can create!
THAT FUCKING INTRO WAS SOOO GOOD, HOLY SHIT. If the dragonslayer s entrance was like that then it would be legendary.
A very thorough, well put together review of a true masterpiece ♥ And at a very fitting timing, as the 40th volume was just released here this week and I've been reading it ever since yesterday. Berserk is a series I brwose through often, especially when I struggle with an art block and seek for inspiration.
I do have to admit however that I did enjoy the 2016/2017 adaption, despite all its flaws, simply because I was so excited to see Serpico on screen ♥
First off, amazing composition of a video. Bravo. Subbed. Second the ps2 graphics still blow my mind.
I can't explain how much do I love this video. Truly masterpiece. The video clearly reflects the time and the effort you put to show your love and passion about this show. I appreciate such product like this and you are truly a legend that not a lot knows about.⚘
