Loved the video, fantastic work! I've read all of Nietzsche's main books; love his writing. So sad to see so many misrepresent him so constantly. People confuse him for Ayn Rand more often than not. For anyone interested in Nietzsche, I recommend starting with The Gay Science (Also titled: The Joyful Wisdom), then Genealogy of the Morals, The Anti-Christ, The Dawn, and Thus Spake; Zarathustra. I recommend reading the Thomas Common version and avoiding Hollingdale and Kaufmann as they're not as good as other translations.

For those who like Berserk but haven't read the manga, I'm begging you to read it from the very beginning. There is a lot that they left out of every anime adaptation, but also you get to see just how incredible Kentaro Miura's artwork is. The manga absolutely blew my mind
I gotta say though, his artwork has regressed a bit, especially the facial modelings. To me, Miura's artistic *PEAK* was the Conviction Arc.
And the Hill of Swords fight. 😳

tbh I think the 1997 anime was pretty much the exact same thing.
I just remembered another one:
There's a chapter named "He who slays dragons" or something like that where Guts gets the dragonslayer. In the chapter Godot the blacksmith stated that no human could wield that sword, but Guts just takes it anyway and asks "Why didn't you tell me you had something that could let me fight the monsters?". I think that's truly the starting point for Guts transformation into monster in order to fight monsters metaphore.
Great observation, I didn't notice that.
This is on par with Griffith's cryptic remark regarding Gods and Demons:

"Dragons are dragons because humans can't beat 'em." - "So, what's a man who beats dragons...?"
I think viewing that as becoming more than a human - a Übermensch(Superman) which makes more sense because he doesn't act monstrously. Becoming a monster to slay monsters would be using a Beherit and sacrificing his party to gain the powers to fight Griffith & the Godshand.

I feel like it gets at the whole theme of causality, too. Defying the sacrifice, defying casuality, these things are supposedly impossible. The dragonslayer was made as a sort of statement on how the weapon you'd need to defeat a dragon is impossible for a human to use. And yet Guts wields it. It seems symbolic of me for his willingness (or ability) to defy what is supposedly already ordained.

Never read a manga before. But since we are never gonna get a good berserk adaptation I have seriously been thinking of reading besetk
I read berserk for the first time this year. It was also the first manga that I have read. It is definitely worth it
I was in the same boat where I had only seen the 97 anime adaptation and hadn't read the manga (this was around 2005) and berserk was the greatest thing I've ever watched. But holy shit, after reading the manga it is a MUST if you are even remotely a fan of berserk. It's seriously incredible, and you should read it from the beginning because there is a lot of things that were left out of all anime adaptations. I cannot recommend it enough!
Remember that you won’t just be reading a manga; you’ll be experience a masterpiece of art and literature.
Its very good read but its also sad because muira goes on haitus quite often....so its going to be a long time. Everyone worries that he will never finish it. Like mozartz dying half way thru his greatest masterpiece.

I know this channel has been inactive in the last year or so, but girl I have to say: because of your videos I've started reading Berserk! It took me approximately 6 months to read all the 359 published chapters, but boy it was a precious experience!!! Also, at the end of the lost children arc are also heavy nietzsche references. Jill wants to follow guts on his journey, in order to escape the terrors of her life. He denies her request, saying that the world around her is just as horrible. He the proclaims that this cruel world is his battlfield telling her to return to her own battlefield. After guts left she even thinks to herself: "I am about to start my own tiny battle"
Personally I think that the dialog between the two contains much of nietzsches philosophy. First of all there is, what I believe, kind of a reference to the quote "What does not kill me makes me stronger".
This very well known quote is often miss interpreted, so I am going to explain it. What Nietzsche ment by that is not that we get stronger by literally risking our life. It means that a disability must not weaken me, in fact it can strengthen me. An example would be nietzsche himself, who considered his syphilis as quite helpful. It relieved him of his duties as Professor, thus giving him time to write his books. He also claimed the symptoms of the illness helped him to develop his philosophy. Another easy example would be this: Who is stronger? The paralympic athlete, who overcame his disability, or you, who may have two feet but cannot run straight for one minute?
Returning to berserk, I interpreted Guts telling Jill, that the world is full of cruelity and that she should start her own battle against the world as an reference to the "What does not kill me makes me stronger" quote. Additionally Jill even thinking to herself that she must bite herself threw the harsh world, so she may can change something. In order to overcome the world and to reshape it one must not let themself get killed by the world.
Secondly there is a clear connexion between the last thought of Jill and a passage in the gay science. As earlier mentioned Guts does not want that Jill follows her and tells her that this is his battlefield. Jill then thinks to herself: "I think im about to start my own tiny battle."
“For believe me! - the secret for harvesting from existence the greatest fruitfulness and the greatest enjoyment is: to live dangerously! Build your cities on the slopes of Vesuvius! Send your ships into uncharted seas! Live at war with your peers and yourselves![...]"

Judging from my impression, Nietzsche is trying to convey to us that fighting by yourself against grievances in life ("to live dangerously") and to overcome them ("Build your cities on the slopes of Vesuvius!") is crusial for happiness in human existance. To summ it up, he is trying to tell us to fight and overcome our problemes in life everyday ("Live at war with your peers and yourselves!"). When Guts left Jill his last words were similary to that thought pattern: "Go back, back to your battlefield." I am of the opinion that Guts told Jill exactly what Nietzsche wrote in the gay science. But of course truncated like Guts would try articulate this complex philosphy ;).
These are just my thoughts about the chapter, I am by no means a professional nietzsche intepreter, so take everything what I wrote with a grain of salt. Thomas Mann, a german author and great Nietzsche fan once said, that one should only lend his ear to Nietzsche, but never his mind, thus you can never be sure if Nietzsche actually ment what he wrote. So I am open for discussion in order to improve my interpretation.

A study of medical records has found that, far from suffering a sexually-transmitted disease which drove him mad, Nietzsche almost certainly died of brain cancer.
The doctor who has carried out the study claims that the universally-accepted story of Nietzsche having caught syphilis from prostitutes was actually concocted after the Second World War by Wilhelm Lange-Eichbaum, an academic who was one of Nietzsche's most vociferous critics. It was then adopted as fact by intellectuals who were keen to demolish the reputation of Nietzsche, whose idea of a "Superman" was used to underpin Nazism.
The new research was carried out by Dr Leonard Sax, the director of the Montgomery Centre for Research in Child Development in Maryland, America. Dr Sax made his discovery after studying accounts of Nietzsche's collapse with dementia in 1889. He was admitted to an asylum in Basle, Switzerland, and was initially diagnosed as being in the advanced stages of syphilis.
According to Dr Sax, however, Nietzsche's notes show no signs of the symptoms which are now regarded as evidence of this disease, such as an expressionless face and slurred speech.
"Nietzsche exhibited none of these symptoms," said Dr Sax. "His facial expressions remained vivid, his reflexes were normal, tremor was not present, his handwriting after his collapse was at least as good as it had been in previous years - and his speech was fluent."
Dr Sax added that in the late 19th century more than 90 per cent of those with advanced syphilis rapidly declined and died within five years of diagnosis. Nietzsche, in contrast, lived for another 11 years.
Nietzsche's physicians, according to Dr Sax, suspected that he may not have had syphilis, but were unable to suggest an alternative. Reporting his findings in the current issue of the Journal of Medical Biography, Dr Sax argues that a more plausible diagnosis would have been that the philosopher was suffering from a slowly-developing brain tumour. This would account for both Nietzsche's collapse and the migraines and visual disturbances he suffered.

Well, personally I think Griffith operates as a kind of subversion of Nietzsche's philosophy of great men. Because even though he tried his best to achieve that ideal, he was still human, and inevitably had weaknesses and guilt. He could never fully distance himself from "the herd". As Casca put it: A man's heart can't be sustained by dreams alone. Griffith was no good without Guts. His humanity was what was holding him back from becoming the ubermench, from fulfilling his purpose of becoming something greater and so he chose to abandon it. Miura is basically twisting Nietzsche's idea of destroying pre existing morals and creating your own in order to transcend your humanity, by showing us Griffith do exactly that in the Eclipse, and presenting it in its true horror. Griffith really did become the Ubermench. But at what cost? I dunno I've been reading Zarathustra and there are just SOOOOO many parallels that I'm trying to make sense of.
I think Miura wrote Guts as an embodiment of Nietzsche's ideas and Griffith of Hegel's ideas. Guts was the Slave and Griffith was the Master. Hegel wrote about the Master's need for the Slave to define himself. Griffith's transcendence embodies Hegel's "Absolute" the unison of opposites, at that moment he's both God, angel, demon and man at once, both Master and Slave, but thus neither.
This also relates to Nietzsche's relation to Hegel, much he wrote used Hegel as the start point, but lead to almost opposite conclusions. This is similar to Griffith and Guts themselves.
An example of that would be Nietzsche's idea of Apollonian and Dionysian, which respectively Griffith and Guts represent. Hegel held Logic with highest regards, what Nietzsche would call Apollonian, while Nietzsche himself thought Emotion should be held beside Logic, the Dionysian. In Griffith's transcendence he let's go from humane feelings, while Guts is engulfed with them and through journeying learns to balance both.
@@igorlowensahr6901 I'm digging your big brained take here; in regards to the master/slave dialectic...doesn't Guts transcend the slave position himself by defining his own place, beyond everything outside of himself? They both transcend, but Guts does it in a might makes right sort of way by his own hand, leading me to equate him with that overman type figure as a result, with Griffith technically becoming the slave role as he becomes subservient to fate and does not transcend or overcome anything beyond himself...merely accepting and becoming. In regards to the Apollonian/Dionysian, you could say that Griffith represents the structure, the light, the sun, and the facade associated with the apollonian. Even his city of falconia is representative or those qualities. Guts becomes a figure of the night, the changing, the chaotic, and formless..all associated with the Dionysian, which Nietzsche also lumped himself in with. Griffith to me is a subversion of the apollonian as when I hear that I think not just great men, by courageous and morally righteous as well. Leading by the sun, and the truth, and the denial and transcendence of immediate gratification and simple pleasures. Which upon typing here, he does fit into, but the way that he reaches those aspects is skewered and upside down. /Rant over dude, I dug your comment and wanted to throw some out back to you.

I think you're spot on about Guts, he does follow the path of the Übermensch (the Overman), but I don't think you can dismiss Griffith like that. The issue comes down to the Fate and Free Will dialectic, but before I'll first go more in depth into Hegel's ideas. Hegel wrote a lot about the French Revolution and Napoleon... It's easy to see how this fit his Master-Slave dialectic, the Kings held the role of Masters and the Servants the role of the Slaves. To Hegel Napoleon overcame the Master-Slave dialectic, because Napoleon both governed and served the French Nation. Upon examination Griffith and Napoleon resemble each other quite a bit. Griffith closes the gap between Fate and Free Will in a similar way... What he desires is his destiny, therefore his destiny is what he desires. Griffith's Will is Fate in itself.
@@igorlowensahr6901 That's a good point, it's just ironic that in doing so, Griffith uses what I would lump in with the Dionysian category in terms of the demons, and devils, and formless astral realm that in no way fits into the Apollonian. Yet Guts relies on steel, which does. I never read Hegel, so I'll have to dig into it.
The herd can understand moral principles but only tends to consider adopting them when they are promoted by someone they admire. Thus gaining reputation through interaction has utility in the marketplace of ideas.
I don't like being pessimistic but we have to face the facts here. She had a successful channel and seemed to enjoy making videos, not to mention her last post on twitter was 50k subs celebration. She was also making a new video on 2nd of May 2019 which would come "next week", but it never did and she went completely silent. Her patreon is gone as well.
So yeah, she's probably not here anymore :(

I have mixed feelings on Nietzsche. On one hand I respect that his work encourages ambition, critical thinking, and the rejection of arbitrary authority. On the other hand a significant portion of his modern proponents seem to use a surface-level understanding of his work to justify their own cruelty and narcissism while engaging in the exact "slave morality" style behaviour they claim to reject.
More likely they use it to justify Master Morality which Nietzsche was critical of as well.
I guess that's an example of staring into the abyss and having it stare back; those are the type of people to reject religion based on shallow understandings of historical exploitation, ignoring the value behind real faith and positive theology - they profess to hate this ideology that causes all these problems in individuals and societies, and create their own meanings of morality based loosely off some other philosophy, focusing on hating religion rather than loving what they (in my opinion, incorrectly) believe religion is destroying. In this way they become what they claim to hate by adding another layer of conflict to the whole situation, engaging in petty arguments and shallow finger-pointing instead of using their time and effort to contribute to creating an environment where the things they claim to be defending from religion can thrive. It's been the same old throughout history - the New Testament describes the Jewish leaders at the time doing the same thing to Jesus, and the Old Testament shows similar behaviour towards the old Prophets. Some people just don't want to do good and sacrifice a little of what they have for others, so they'll react violently to anyone or anything that suggests that what they're doing is wrong - the approach I've found to be most common these days is claiming that morality doesn't exist and there is no good and there is no evil, which sounds exactly like something someone who loves doing evil would say.
Neitzsche is very easy to twist to your own biases, his sister was the first to do that and anime kid narc nihilists are the latest. Doesn't stop him from being a good read I guess

I'm still depressed about the recent Berserk adaptation. It's just so bad. I held off on reading the manga because I heard they were making it and the original 90s and golden age movies changed me. I loved them. To avoid spoiling something so genius, I haven't continued the anime and might just read the manga instead

As an academic I am doing my part. We need a better iteration of it. The best one so far is the anti cheese edit of the show that is here on RUclips. I think some of the ways some of the rape has been handled are sexist and it would be unethical to force college students to watch them.

Isn't it nice that even though she speaks against religion in the area of Berserk and Nietzsche's worldview, she tries to remain as neutral as possible and goes to lengths to apologize if she hurt anyone's feelings? I would say any person of any conviction should respect that stance. Thank you for the video.
It’s nice of her, but as a former religious person it can still hurt seeing how wrong religion is. Like seeing guts battling against morbious as an angel and he thinks he’s fighting for good. And the people who desperately cling on to religion and don’t want to die but because they don’t fight to live then they die.
But if you seek the truth beyond the lies of religion. You need to realize religion is a fantasy world. Even if it hurts you need to keep seeking the truth beyond the false world of religion. Life is bitter sweet.
@@whitedragoness23 Then you path is a reversal of mine - I became more religious by searching for the truth. Of course, I did not find it in catholicism but my search did lead me to christian monotheism. What Guts faced in the manga was a twisted religion where all authority is given to a handful of men. And that always leads to hell for people. Even in the real world. I'm completely with you on this one. I'm still happy the author of the video didn't use manga topic as an excuse to rail against religion. That, to me, would be hypocrisy. If someone wants to bash religion, let them record a separate video and deal with issues of this world. And I've watched lots of such videos. At least they're straightforward and don't use another topic as a mask. 👍🏻
@@whitedragoness23 Funnily enough, true religion, as in original manuscripts, do not hesitate to speak about the bittersweetness of the world. The sheer amount of pain, suffering, and death, as well as the fear that life is a vain thing, is not left out of scripture. But because that stuff is less marketable, religious movements often speak little of them in the modern day.
Yes, there is hope in the end. But it was never promised to be a perfect world on the way. But if a religion states that “there is a good God in heaven, and everything is all right” then it’s not a very truthful religion.

Its interesting how the Antagonist(Griffith) seems to be the embodiment of the Ubermensch but the protagonist(Guts) is also going down the path to become an Ubermensch. I'm still not sure what point Miura is trying to make with this story. There is so much deep philosophy and psychology in Berserk.
He only seems he is. All I see in Griffith is someone who is weak. Even Casca said it,he has to make himself strong,because he isn't .
@@proximamidnight1581 I actually kind of agree that Griffith is "weak" in a sense... Guts struggles and struggles against fate to achieve what he wants... Whereas Griffith is only able to achieve everything because he was chosen by fate. In fact, by choosing to sacrifice, he admitted that he was incapable of achieving his dreams on his own--he relied on power that was given to him. It's not really that respectable if something outside your control gave you the power to do amazing things.
@@gxppe I totally agree that Griffith and Guts show different paths to the ubermensch. Ultimately, Griffith's path was created by forces outside of his control. He was born strong, smart, and charismatic... Fate gave him the opportunity to gain immense power... And he took it. To be fair, I'm not saying Griffith is completely weak. I mean, part of success is luck and taking advantage of that luck. Also, even though Guts spends his time trying to "fight fate"... A lot of what happens to him is likely driven by fate as well. But rather than make choices based on what fate tells him is probably going to happen, Guts makes choices DESPITE what fate is going to tell him.
I mean, when Griffith was told he would never be successful if he didn't make the sacrifice, Griffith was like, shit that's right... Better make the sacrifice if I want to achieve my dream.
When Guts is told over and over again that he can never make a difference and will never kill Griffith/Femto... He continues to struggle and tries to do it even though he's told it's impossible.
@@emandems94 I agree. Everything about Griffith is fake,he is fake Higherman,fake angel,fake god. All he is good at is to pretend to great,while Guts is his polar opposite,he doesn't pretend,he just is,without even knowing it.
How is it fake though? Griffith is like the model image of Nietzsche's Ubermensch. He may not be "good" by the common judeo-christian definition, but to Nietzsche there was no good and evil.

Berserk gives me such strong feelings of nostalgia and sadness, even though I watched it only a year ago, It sparks something deeply entrenched in my personality, feelings or toughts that had always been there. Aspirations of something greater or self realization; yearning for a place in this world, for real friends, for love.
The sorrow and beauty of life is so well potrayed, every time I hear guts theme something deep inside me hurts, it's touched.

I understand that finding the ideal place, real friends and love can be boring subjects when the author is not that good ... although It is very subjective. For example, even if I liked Naruto a lot, I thought the story was way too naive about the friendships etc
To be yourself, finding the good environment is important to feel comfortable. If you have something to fight for, friends are the one that will understand this, support you and you will do the same for them. We can even do this without noticing it !
Finally, we're not all as strong as you seem to be, to live happy without friends and a loving partner.
As humans, we need the confirmation of the others that counts for us... I'm sure that you do too anyway

The problem is not religion itself, the problem is the ones in higher power who twist and use it for their benefit, preying on the weak minded, yet if your faith is strong you are as capable as the others that's Miura's message in my opinion, In the Mozgus Arc Miura's shows that blaming god because life is hard is also being weak, Guts always blamed Griffith for what he did to him but when guts let's go off the hatred and focuses on protecting Casca and helping the ones weaker than him it's when he becomes stronger and more decent as a human being, organized religion makes you dependent but having your own faith and doing what's right makes you strong.
just doing whats right without needing a carrot or a stick makes you even stronger. Another theme in the series is how religious belief tend to make characters act in irrational ways, often justifying action that are atrocious. So yeah i disagree with you that religion is not a problem, because religion sets up a system for terrible acts to take place because, literally anyone can do anything and claim its the will of a god. And this is a problem if the object of worship does not exist. It means there will be no enforcer, and yet there will be scared masses afraid of incuring its fury by defying whoever is "twisting" things.
If the people werent scared of getting struck by some blight, who knows maybe they dont kowtow to this person, who is getting them to do things they know isnt right. Because the "god" is unquestionable. The video ive seen of a congregation chewing grass like goats (i'm not kidding) because the pastor assured them that it was going to give them blessings, others ive seen of preachers getting church members to have sex with them. So yes, the system religions set up, cripple skepticism and promotes fear. So its a problem.
I absolutely love berserk, because i feel the message is a call to action for people, for autonomy and solidarity, to realize what we have is eachother, and we have to act and persevere(like guts) instead of wasting time wondering whether something is or isnt going to show up in a flash of light. Deities dont really matter at the end of the day. Because guess what, one actually has demonstrably better chance of yielding results. Medicine, technology. And thats us. Hopefully one day the rest of us wake up to this realization.
@@uberkind-412 Organized the religion is not the same as one religious individual, organized religion is evil you can look at history and even nowadays how they are more associated with evil then godliness, for example if you understand what the Bible's message is really about you won't need someone to tell you how to worship and honor god, you live your life and learn from it, everyone knows good from bad even if they have different backgrounds, people are usually grey in between tho, all religions are the same just with different methods, it's the ones in power that make it bad for everyone and some people are just desperate not educated to see they are being robbed or used, if you know Jesus teachings you will not offer yourself to someone nor will you feed the greed of others, you will know better than to be a tool.
For me Miura's message in that arc, you follow your own life, god teaches us through choice and consequences and that's how Guts truly lives while everyone seems to be already have a pre determined destined in the world of berserk Guts seems to choose how to live he's life despite having the brand he goes against destined and learns through choice and consequences.
This just my opinion as you have yours, I'm not saying your view is wrong if that's the way you see it.

To know what actions are good and bad, we have the wellbeing of ourselves, and by extension people and society to guide our actions. After all, if the bible or divinity was the source of morality, how come we have a problem with all the genocide and infanticide by yahweh in the old testament?

@@uberkind-412 I try to follow, it just started make sense to me, imagine you're in a situation where you need to make choice but you're having trouble to decide what's the right thing to do, if you ask yourself "what would Jesus do?" You imediatly feel that you know what to do sometimes the best choice is not choosing at all if both choices feel wrong to you, now I'm not saying to do this every time but in the hardest choices it has worked.
A name that is remembered after so many years, he's actions of kindness and the example he set to the people of that time still applies today that it just seems to transcend the laws of time, everyone knows who Jesus is throughout the world, people know him better than any king, ruler, philosopher or anyone else that has walked in this world and that said alot to me, it just made sense one day.
I believe the stories and events in the Bible are simbolic most of all and we need to extract its meaning and also apply logic to understand what is happening and that's where it gets difficult because we not always take the same conclusions and instead of working together to learn and debate people just get divided to different religions based on the same things, that's where it gets dangerous and people become vulnerable and dumb because no one wants to be wrong so they'll blame others and commit atrocities to each other showing that they haven't learned anything from the teachings.
I could go into detail and explain my view and thoughts but then again I don't know everything, there is always so much to learn from life and it doesn't matter if you are religious or not what matters most is your actions in this world, why would your view of the world be wrong if you're a good person who tries to do the best you can everyday? Our views could be different but can't say they are wrong or bad, that we know good from bad it's sure a gift even if sometimes we are naive and fall into mistakes, we can always redeem ourselves and learn from it, God will not hate you for making a mistake he will not help you directly either you always have a choice and a consequence that is life, we can't evolve if we don't learn from ourselves, a good master will not say you are wrong he'll let you learn from the experience.

I really want to start reading the manga when I have time, I've only watched the 1997 anime so my opinion is fairly uninformed here, but with the material I have at my disposal till now, at least the Golden Age arc seems more to me like a criticism of Nietzsche (or generic individualism), more than a praise of him.
The Bonfire of Dreams, Griffith's confession to Casca about his relationship with Gannon and the Advent are key in this question as I see it (they may be much more tho). In the first one, Guts shows a deep and genuine human recognition of the need for purposeful vital activity in all of the ''bonfires'' of his comrades, he doesn't seem to remark it with contempt when he acknowledges the fact that all those bonfires, those dreams, lend a part of their force to Griffith's fire/dream. He's not saying his comrades are weak or herdish, he's just realizing the fact that Griffith charisma and objectives seem to be so powerful that he is capable of getting the best of his followers own aspirations, as a *moral leader*.
In the scene where Griffith is bathing and Casca confronts him about his presence in Governour Gannon's room, Griffith directly references the vision in the Advent where he sees his impulse to become a ''higher man'' as a path built on mountains of blood and corpses, torturing himself with the vision of the fellow human beings he thinks to have sacrificed to pursue his dream of greatness (to the point of self-harming). Griffith becomes here the personification of emotional repression, and I see a great example of my point in this scene. The interpretation of Casca, who thinks this is just an example of the inevitable suffering that comes to those who ''dream high'', seems a bad excuse for all the suffering a depriving, pressing material reality forces upon us, and the literal human sacrifices and alienation from the rest of the species that becoming a ''higher man'' demands (i.e., a man of a historically dominant class). Griffith reacts violently to this because he still has a humanity then.
It also really seems as a case of what you said in the video regarding religious delusions that not only the God Hand talks in a liturgical language, but that Griffith has to sacrifice all the human beings he has ever bonded with, including *the one* that almost made him forget his dream, that he has to sacrifice his humanity and then, ultimately, himself, in the altar of the Idea of Evil, of Evil portrayed as a literal will to power, of power to kill and to dominate beyond the rules of ''the herd'' (Femto is born from *the dream of this man* as Slan remarks, which leads to believe Griffith as a person symbolically dies in the process). The Behelit doesn't manifest itself but in a moment of great desperation after all. Something similar happens to Guts: from the emotional epiphany he goes through just before the Advent disaster, realizing his purpose may lay with his comrades, with the ones he has bonded and defended his life with, he becomes a hate-filled sociopath that doesn't care about anyone, after the most important social and emotional bonds he has ever formed (camaraderie, genuine mutual care for Griffith, sexual passion with Casca, etc.) are absolutely annihilated. This is where I think Berserk takes its truly Nietzschean path, where Guts goes from just another human being looking for his place in the world to a broken Struggler, the Dragonslayer.
Anyways, I think the most interesting things we can get from any intellectual work come for interpreting them in their historical framework, not just leaving the issue in the part of understanding them in their own logic (which is also necessary ofc). This is my humble attempt at it after watching your undoubtedly thought-provoking video!

Really good job relating the scene with the Band of the Hawk's camp fires with the Tower of Conviction! I'd never made that connection before and always thought Miura was just taking a shot at organized religion, but it was just playing into a larger, previously established theme.
