The internet said it wouldn't work, "too much turbulence" they said, "will never control boost & will never work" they said.....
Today's episode we take inspiration from extreme motorsport turbo setups and apply it to the vRS3's engine bay to better control boost. We remove the Tail 44mm MBR gate and upgrade to the Turbosmart Powergate 60mm monster to help us precisely control boost we start to turn things up.

Awsome , we have our gate on the turbine housing on our VR6 24 v golf for the last 3 years , never been an issue controlling boost , cheers from OZ 👍. We also had all the (it won’t work sayers) and our syvecs S7 is the best . Keep up the Awsome work guys 👍

On turbo,on the manifold ,internally wastegated, the turbo doesn't know where the wastegate is all it needs to know is how much boost you need. The location can be anywhere it needs to be functional. People online always have something to say about everything even if they don't know what it is. The only thing I really never warmed up to were screamer exhausts ,as I was a codriver in rally cars that exhaust used come back in the car and with 110 octane you will be sick . You may start to call your car the vomit comet . Love what you guys have done so far keep pushing if it doesn't break you not trying hard enough!!! .👍😎🤯

👍The waste gate mounting location on the turbo was Genius. It totally makes sense, because all the boost comes from the turbo. I wonder why people haven't tried this before. Great Job with the car Bud.✌️
Probably because it's a suboptimal way to go about it but obviously it still works. Ideally you want a Y before the turbine that offers the exhaust a 50/50 path it could go. Doing it how they did it in the video also complicates a turbo blanket and most applications its easier to position the wastegate before the turbo rather than on it. Especially if it's a large turbo in tight quarters.
Putting the waste gate on the turbing housing makes perfect sense, its were everthing starts. Just keep going dont stop great work.
Never ever have to worry whether you’re not getting pulses from every cylinder cause they all have to come down this route.

There is nothing wrong with Your placement. I have modded a ton of turbos and place a whole lot of wastegates on the turbine housings. Ive done some twinscroll bigass Holset HX52 Turbos with dual wastegates on the turbine housings. Works a charm. I always use Nickel99 arc welding rods. I take a hammer and knock all the flux off and then clean them with a wire brush and use them as filler rod with the tig. Get a good preheat on them and nock em out. Love You channel guys this is a awesome build. I love that Your sticking it to the 2.5 fan boys. Your build is super unique and that makes it worth alot more to me than just another Iroz 2.5.

F1 use that set up. My wastegate is set up the same way and I heard the same negativity when it was dont. It was mostly because i didn't do the norm. GREAT CONTENT as always 👏 and the peanut butter gallery can pack some major sand.

Great content. If you are gonna leave the gate trough the hood, put a braket on the wastegate, if not when very heated the pipe will crack cuz of the weight fron the wastegate

Street car spec down under 😎 you can buy rear housings already set up for external gates.
2 quick comments. First, from what we could see of your welding, it looks fine. No need to excuse yourself, you're doing great. Second, If I were personally faced with your choice, would not go through the hood. Why? Depending on how you work it, without some type of cap it's a dirt, junk and liquid collector when the engine isn't running. Also, With all the effort you've made to keep the factory look, it would go against that. I do have to admit, though, flames look cool.

I wish more companies would do this with their turbine housings.... 2 companies (corksport and bnr) make turbos for the mazdaspeed3/6 with ewg on custom turbine housings which saves the Hassel of space and choosing/ paring with a exhaust manifold

I lost a lot of spool doing this on a 2 litre B-series Honda with 50mm tubing. Great for control and wastegate flow but if you make your wastegate feed tube too long, it adds a lot of additional turbine volume to fill up and creates lag. A stubby 45 degree bend (in relation to flow) is best.
Ooof sorry to hear that, so far we haven’t noticed any difference in turbo performance as far as spool. Builds boost super fast. But we will keep an eye out, thank you 🙏

Basically made an internal waste gate, kind of. The people that say it won't work, or it can't be done... Probably never try!
I like that idea of the housing location. Wouldn’t that be the most efficient area to put a BOV? I feel like the air would exit was quicker from the housing vs a random straight area of the pipe. I wonder why more people don’t use that method?

I mean what you are doing is nothing new. Back in the Mazdaspeed days ATP was doing it on their Garrett GTX 3071r/3076r kits of which I had. Build looks good!

People are so wrong that's why it works so good it's only one tube of exhaust gases instead of four therefore less turbulence that's what I do on my cars all the time
I cant see why that wouldnt work well, but I would never do that to a turbo because if you ever want to upgrade you have to go through this process all over again, Its alot better to just have it coming off the manifold.
