      I wouldn't recommend using history as a benchmark on Intel. A decade ago in tech is like 500 years in other fields.

      Hordequester has a good point here. Still I'm not going to be too optimistic. Definitely going to wait to see how it compares to current GPUs before considering switching over though, and even if it is good I'd probably wait for my parts to artifact before investing in a new brand. Still, glad to see someone has some new GPUs lined up in the near future

    I tried looking up some news articles on the Chrome Extension story, and from what I can tell, you can still use extensions that are not comming from the official Web Store - they are just discontinuing the 'inline install API' - meaning that if you want to install extensions from outside the official web store you need to download the code for the extension and install it yourself. Or have I misunderstood something?

    My boss's brother works at NVIDIA and just made a custom rig for someone who wanted a TERABYTE of RAM. Not SSD, RAM. I figured they were either crazy or Linus

    • @TheMinecraftNerd2014
      @TheMinecraftNerd2014 6 лет назад +1

      Why would someone need a Terabyte of RAM?

    • @daphnesinger6541
      @daphnesinger6541 6 лет назад

      No clue. And it was a personal computer, not like a server or a supercomputer or anything.

    • @TheMinecraftNerd2014
      @TheMinecraftNerd2014 6 лет назад

      +Daphne Singer I guess they do lots of memory-intensive work. I bet the person had to pay loads of money for the computer, as well as loads of extra money for a Windows 10 Enterprise or Server license.

    • @daphnesinger6541
      @daphnesinger6541 6 лет назад +3

      They also got an i9, so clearly, the buyer was someone who wants the best of the best. But a TB for personal use is such overkill unless they never intend to close any application ever. Or have a thousand Chrome tabs open... *shudders*

    • @TheMinecraftNerd2014
      @TheMinecraftNerd2014 6 лет назад

      I bet they will use a lot of that RAM for RAMDisks, since RAM has much higher r/w speeds that even high-end M.2 SSDs. That or they want a machine that will last a couple of decades.
      EDIT: To put it in perspective, I created a 4GB RAMDisk, and managed to get up to 7230.6 MB/s read speeds, and 6041.4 MB/s write speeds.

    • @capecodguy2685
      @capecodguy2685 6 лет назад +3

      I don't know exactly how their law is written, but unless the route of all your online traffic stays entirely within the state then I feel like the shit that ISPs are going to pull will still affect you. They might not be able to do it in Washington itself, but once the traffic hits a router on their network outside of the state then they can probably still throttle it to their greedy little hearts' desires.

    • @capecodguy2685
      @capecodguy2685 6 лет назад +1

      Sgt. S. Fire I understand that, but those laws are only enforceable within the state, and internet traffic has to go through different states and through different ISPs to get to its ultimate destination and back again. So even if an ISP isn't throttling anything on their network inside the state, once it gets to another part of their network or to a different ISP's network in a different state then I'm not sure a state law could do anything about it when throttling happens at that point.

      alex thomas The previous episodes had a revel of a new guy Alexander Clark which most could tell he was nervous. He was enthusiastic but that didn't come across in the video. Then this video went back to Linus hosting this one. I was kidding about them not using him again. On a lot of the shows they alternate hosts like on here, the Wan Show, and Techquickie so everyone gets a chance at hosting except Linus Tech Tip which of course the name Linus being in the title so you can't use anyone else other than Linus. Then you have anyone else appear as a feature or cameo beside him.

    • @ExploringFate

    how is intel going to compete when nvidia and amd both pretty much hold all the patent's to gpu's? intel will have to build something much different to not infringe but then it will be very very miserable in performance for awhile until games are designed to utilize the new design.

    • @Malus1531
      @Malus1531 6 лет назад

      Yeah good question. They have iGPU though, and I'm sure games get optimized for it. It's a shame almost nobody can break into the CPU and GPU markets due to all the patents.

    • @rickyyoung
      @rickyyoung 6 лет назад +2

      Linus was talking about and had his hands on an OLDER Intel GPU in another vid. If Intel follow the same principles as that gpu it'll be made up entirely of 'Universal' Cores or Compute units and all the different rendering jobs (done buy different dedicated parts of both nVidia and AMD GPUs) Will all be done in software. It's a nice concept. Means a major api change (say dx11 to dx12) will just take a driver update to make the Intel card compatible

    A GPU by Intel is really exciting. I don't think they'll be able to hike the price as high as they do with their CPUs, because Nvidia is already so well established as the king in the GPU market, and AMD will probably be pretty darn close by 2020. So Intel will have to come out swinging with either an equally powerful enthusiast grade GPU line at a similar price to Nvidia, or go for AMD's market share with lower budget, but almost-as-powerful cards. Either way, I think this is going to be good to light a fire under Nvidia in terms of innovation.

    That Chrome extension 'fix' is going to have a big impact for Brave development; they were planning to integrate Chrome extensions and their whole goal was to make a privacy-focused, Google-free browser.
    Now we're gonna have to wait EVEN LONGER for more features for Brave...

    I don't think the ability to install Chrome extensions will be removed from the developer options. It just says inline installation will be disabled. But developer sideloading should still work fine.

    Kinda wish cars were just digitally linked metros. Know what I mean? Rather than scanning the environment just have a cyber linked "rail" for vehicles to follow. As long as every vehicle was linked, it wouldn't be a problem. And people wouldn't get hit by a car unless they were being callous at that point.

    I'd miss the satisfyingly solid clunk of plugging and unplugging a lightning connector. They're a great bit of engineering.
    But everything would be so much more cross-compatible. And if we switch to USB-C for headphones, we can ditch the jack without the inconvenience.

    Well let's hope Raja Koduri being involved with discrete GPU development at Intel is a good thing. Remember Vega? That didn't go too well for AMD and the Vega cards were obsolete on release in terms of performance, power consumption and heat output. Only the demand from crypto mining kind of saved Vega, but was actually even better for the RX400/500 cards. Raja Koduri left the Radeon team shortly after Vega was released... And now he is working with Intel... Maybe in 2020 they will release an Intel Vega that finally has 1080Ti performance and only uses 500W+ :)

  • @ericstockley
    @ericstockley 6 лет назад +1

    Yah!!! Please, this might actually undo the harm done by mining. I just hope they are competitive with current cards out.

    Lightning will only disappear when wireless charging becomes the norm. At that point the charger will probably use a USB-C port, the device itself, no port at all.

    Does it have open source drivers? Intel graphics drivers have been going with the linux kernel for a while now. Obviously ATI/AMD has its history with open-source drivers and, even though some people dislike the quality of the drivers, at least you can say the open-source drivers exist and have potential for community support.

    I doubt apple will drop the lightning cable so soon, and the keyboard and mouse on the latest imac charge by lighting; a decision that didn't really make sense to me when they did it as they also added usb C ports to the imacs themselves at the same time.
