There was a time in the late 1940's, early 1950's when everyone in town would stop what they were doing, go down to the depot and watch the first stream line diesel come thru. It seems that things have come full circle. Google and listen to Johnny Cash's recording of "Texas 1947". I would love to see your comments.
I think I'm fairly knowledgeable about steam locomotives but I'm at a loss to explain the purpose of the water flowing out of what appears to be a drain in front of the cylinders at 2:29. I'm assuming it is a drain of some type, but can anyone explain the source of the water and the purpose and function of this device?
@richardhawkinson3020 All I know for sure is that it is manually controlled by the engineer. I could see a series of rods moving coming out of the upper part of the cab at the same time the water flowed.
@@RobereTurbo Thanks! That's a piece of the puzzle. I wonder if it is somehow related to the injectors for forcing water into a pressurized boiler. An overflow of some type?
Make plans to build a memory. Your kids or grandkids will never forget.
