Just for the sake of clarity, the parry bonus doesn't't effect damage. You do get bonus damage for attacking parried enemies but that's a stagger or poise break damage bonus. Parry bonus applies to the armor rating of your sheid. It means that when parrying you can block much more damage than you would in a standard block , which is the main reason that parrying is so important.
With a base level bronze buckler with no blocking level bonus the block armor is 16, that's not much for the swamp. However, while parrying with that same buckler, even at 0 blocking skill level, your effective block armor is 40 (16*2.5). You then also benefit from attacking while the enemy is staggered from the parry if they did not out damage your block armor, which will generally result in you being staggered instead.

ouuu thanks for the info, I was actually kind of confused as to why I was still getting staggered when I landed parries, but then you just cleared that up! Nice.

I have experienced crypts where there is absolutely nothing at all, all doorways are blocked. The chests are the absolute MVP's when it comes to getting scrap iron, there's so much in the chests. Also as said, pick up the arrows because they are very good to have, not going to spoil why but if you make it through the swamp you'll find out ;] also pick up all the rubies and valuables etc, you might need them later for a little heavy lifting! Very nice video man! Informative with all the useful tips to make the swamp more manageable

    • @goofywarriorguy2439
      @goofywarriorguy2439 Год назад +12

The problem is his info is incorrect.
Parry bonus is not applied to your damage to a staggered enemy. Damage on a staggered enemy is always double your weapon damage and has nothing to do with your shield.
Parry bonus is bonus blocked damage. So his Block armor on the Buckler is 16. So a normal block will absorb 16 damage. The parry bonus is 2.5x which means it will block up to 40 damage when you successfully Parry (16x2.5=40). If the enemy hits for around 30-35 DMG or so, this means a block will only absorb half the damage (what gets through is then reduced again by your Armor value) but a Parry will absorb all of the damage. This means that even if you are naked, a successful Parry on this enemy with bronze Buckler results in you taking no damage.
Of note: He does not make it very clear that you must wait until just before the attack lands before you press your block in order to successfully Parry. He says "when the attack is about to hit, hold Right click" This could be misinterpreted to suggest that you can hold block long before the enemy attacks, but it's important to only press block after the enemy starts swinging but before the attack lands. He kind of explains this but I just wanted to make sure everyone understood what he meant.

Don't need potions until the boss. Just bring 2 hp and 1 stam food, an atgeir, bow, club or mace, build hammer, bonfire materials, and about 10-20 wood. When you see an abomination place your bonfire and keep the bonfire in-between you and it, keep your hammer on repair in case it decides to attack your bonfire, and if you keep just outside it's attack range you can repair while he burns.
The atgeir will off balance all drauger and wraiths unless they're 2 stars. Also if you have trouble with the wraiths after that you can set a bonfire, move to the opposite side the wraith and wait to special attack the wraith into the bonfire.
All ooze and blobs can be spammed with the stag hammer, just know they like to jump when they're almost in stag range. Also when in the crypt you can kill the spawners and enemies in the rooms before you clear all the muddy scraps piles out. This also works for the towers in the swamps and helps to take out spawns while dealing with the enemies outside the crypts.
The fire things idk the name of you just dig below their spawner so they spawn in water and die.
If you have trouble with poison like ooze and blobs or boss build the root helm first, if you have trouble with archers build the root chest first, they greatly reduce the damage.
Leeches are pretty simple, just don't go in water, but bows and the stags are the way to go.
    Skeletons are weak to blunt
Bows are good to take large chuck off of enemies before theyre alerted otherwise save them for the abomination. Also if you use fire arrows, with the bonfire damage and fire arrows damage they will run, just take a couple shots in their back and let them run. Run up a bit, long range them, then they'll come running back.

An even easier and cheaper way to fight Abominations is to just hop up on top of a sunken crypt and hit it with your axe. The height is perfect and you won't get hit at all - while his legs will always be in range of your axe.

A bit of misinformation on the parry bonus of the buckler. The parry bonus has nothing to do with the damage you deal to a staggered enemy. It's always double the base damage of your weapon The parry bonus applies to amount of damage your shield can block if you parry with it.
Let's say you have no armor on and your shield blocks 50 dmg and has 2,5 parry bonus. An enemy hits you for 80 dmg. 50 dmg is blocked by the shield and you take 30 dmg.
But if you parry the attack that parry bonus takes that block value of 50 and multiplies it by 2,5 making it 125 and now it blocks the 80 dmg completely.

Valheim is a game for AUTISTIC people who like to play building all day. The game it self i actually really bad and underdeveloped. ( yes i know it early access, but when people can make MODS that make the game better than what excuse the devs have??? )
Many mods have been made that make the game way better than its original state. But it amazes me how people defend the bad game play the tedious and pointless farming the game has.
But it becomes clear, most fans are AUTISTIC. *They cant think outside of the box.*
They dont understand that a the game developer can add some form of UPGRADES to the progression in the game. *UPGRADES that make the tedious parts in the game less tedious.*
      Example
i fine that when you hit Bronze age you have to farm copper ore manually and it takes a long time if you want to get all the ore ( because digging it all out and then digging under it so it finally collapsed, takes a long time, but you get all the copper ore that way )
No problem if you have to do it 5 or 10 times if you hit bronze age
I also have no problem that you are forced to use a boat if you want to travel.
I also have no issue that with PORTALS you can't teleport ore.
*But those LIMITATION should be at the beginning in the game. Later in game you should have the option to UPGRADE to eliminate some of this limitations.*
The game should have NATURAL UPGRADES after certain technology advancement or after killing a boss that you can build UPGRADES that help you farm copper ore faster, that lets you discover the map so that you don't have to go in every single location with your boat...
( maybe sending some mythical viking crows that will reveal some parts of the map or something like that ) .. and then a UPGRADE that will UPGRADE the PORTALS so you can finally transport ORE.
Stuff like that should be in the game so i player feels a sense of progression and that the things you first were forced to do and took long time, now can be speeded up.
      _________________________________________________
It amazes me how the big fans of the game can't even imagine that this could be a thing in the game OWN DESIGN.
No Mods but build in options.
Instead people say if you want to transport ore with portals use a MOD or use COMMANDs to get ore directly.
*Why are the big fans of the game so unimaginative* and they are fine with the poor and bad design of the original game????
      Reason?????
Because most people can't think out side the box and with this game we have just AUTISTIC people who like to build all day but also a combination with low IQ.
Autisim + low IQ ... and its sad.
      ________________________________________________
Valheim could be a so much better game if the fan base would be smart enough to demand it.

8:45 Alternatively, build a Portal JUST outside (or on top of!) whatever Crypt you're mining, and use that to both repair your Bronze Pick (which does way more damage and clears out Scrap Piles much faster) and to empty all the not-Iron stuff you're picking up out of your inventory.
13:30 A word of warning about Crypts: they are NOT consistent in terms of you'll find in them. Some Crypts will spawn with very few rooms, or almost no Chests. It's possible to go into a Crypt, clean it all out, and only have, like, 12 Iron in your inventory. Another Crypt, on the other hand, might contains dozens rooms with 15 total chests and yield 4 or 5 stacks of iron. So, don't be too discouraged if you get a "bad Crypt" or two and don't seem to be getting enough Iron - eventually you'll hit on a good Crypt and you'll be able to load up your Karve (or Longboat) with that precious ore.
14:30 If you're going to make any of the Root armor, don't bother with the Iron Armor (unless you're just swimming in Iron somehow). The Root stuff has almost as much defense and way better auxiliary benefits, and once you defeat Bonemass there's a higher-defense, easier-to-farm heavy armor you can make once you do a little Mountain exploration.

My best tip for the game in general is built outposts. I just beat the elder and I can say that bringing just 6 copper and 4 coal to built a forge as well as a workbench just to have a place to sleep, rest, and repair is how you succeed the tactical way.
Especially if you cross the ocean! Nothing worst than getting stranded… always have a backup plan, a way back home, extra supplies, etc…
I’ve literally just repaired old houses I’ve found and they make excellent little places just to get rested. My favorite is this old stone keep I half rebuilt with the best of my abilities that had the elder’s rune stone! When I unlock the right gear, I’m going to fully repair that place and make one sturdy outpost…

For parrying just time it so that you press block right when the attack should hit you. The parry window in this game is very generous so if you’ve played any other games with parrying you should be able to get it down pretty easily

Are you on a modded server? Typical for me is 5 leeches, 2 gauders, 2-3 blobs and an abomination all attacking me at the same time. So I slow down, take my time. But then it's already night time and I die because the wraiths are added to the mayhem. I mean I like challenge but damn, the swamp is totally ridiculous 😢

I still recommend the Sword over the Mace even though all Enemys have weakness to blunt.
Because of the secondary Attack anbd a Serpent shield granbting Pirce Resist and is easily obtainable - with a Sword and Karve. Just lure it landsides - harpoons help a lot here.
The Swords thrust can kill Leeches without getting in their attack range.
Also, the thrust kills the Draugr very well and a Iron Sword does it for sure (aside the staryy ones).
The Thrust works VERY well for Abominations as well even though pulling them to a Flame is also a valid Thing.
The Sword allows also for very easy defeating Ghosts as well as you can have them welcomed with a thrust.
For Blunt (mostly for geek Spawners) have the Stagbreaker at ready if you want - I also prefer the Sword here and are pretty muich the same speed than a Friend with the Mace.
Also, have a Portal to put on top of the Dungeons as well a a Core Wood for placinf a sitting Log and enough for a Camppfire with you.
On entering the Dungeon, you destroy the Torches and place a Log on one and the Fire on the other Side - et voila, comfort 3 and you get dry as inside the permanent wet-condition does not apply.
And Matey here did not mention that the Crossbow need a Black Forge (Mistlands, 3 Biomes later) - Forget about that fast.

this is massive overkill, i rocked through the lot with 80hp from just cooked meat and berries for stamina then a maxed troll set and the mace and buckler. i would recommend players just get good at parrying and strafing with light armour and you should realistically never take damage. in the event you do take damage. just have enough health to survive 2 hits from any enemy and you're sweet. (note you can parry arrows). it pays off once you get to the plains once you get parries down and farming leeches and blobs you can train range finding. to know what the range of your mace is. you can kill blobs and leeches for 0 damage if you range yourself properly and the light armour helps you have a more forgiving escape speed if you mess up. Then draugr, wraiths and skeletons you just practice parrying. Abominations aren't weak to maces so are the hardest to deal with with a mace. they have 3 different attacks. play around with them by walking around them anticlockwise (against their front right leg) because the front right leg will never hit you this way and then only attack them when they attack and miss and again. no reason they should ever hit you if you pick a good open area to fight them and just stay calm and patient.

I decided to play a bit of Valheim recently, not for the first time, btw. Everything was smooth until I found a swamp. This particular swamp is one of the most difficult I've faced so far. To enter it you would have to cross a river with a tiny black forest patch about 7 square meters on the other side. Then you have a sea on the left side, plains on your right side and this hell of a swamp line in-between... When I went in it was hard like never before. The swamp itself had 1 square meter patches of land separated by 50-80 meters of chest deep water, where leeches were swarming. Wat I went through is standing on those tiny patches of land barely holding of endless draugrs supported by skeleton archers and abomination and there were 7-9 leeches waiting for me to take a step into water. There were also several deathskitos and a ghost coming to say hello. It felt like event attack back at base except that the waves were endless. When you kill a draugr you get guts or smth as a drop. After 15 mins of this hell I had my lvl 3 mace almost broken and about 70 guts, 44 bladders from leeches. Basically I only barely advanced into the swamp and was forced to run away. Worst nightmare of a swamp I've seen so far in this game.

Would recommend learning the attack patterns of the Abomination. Just using a buckler and an axe makes them one of the biggest pushovers in the game. They have one attack that can be easily paired and the stagger lasts a good few seconds

You can renew rest in crypts by laying down a fire and sitting down for 30sec. It will smoke you out in about 25secs so I'd recommend clearing the crypt first, still be on the look out for skellys coming out of nowhere. The rested buff gives you higher health and stamina regen and xp gain from mobs, so it's worth it to get that rested bonus back up, before leaving a safe place to make your trek back to base.
