Just found out this channel after visiting Osaka castle, and become interested in this part of japan history.
It’s awesome! Clear narrations and nice animations. It should be more popular! I hope you continue in the future. Best wishes

It's been theorized that since Hideyoshi could neither become Shogun nor Emperor of Japan, then China would be the only viable option to achieve Emperor status. If he could defeat the Ming Dynasty, then he could potentially claim the Mandate of Heaven and be declared a Chinese Emperor. In the Chinese system, there was no requirement to be of noble status or even to be an ethnic Han Chinese, you just have to convince the population that you've inherited the Mandate of Heaven by crushing all of your enemies.

His main reason was to clear shipping lanes so that he could keep his power base

The reasons were manifold. It was done to keep his forces united, satisfy honour, and gain territory.

Nice video, but can I add a couple of notes.
    1. Hideyoshi intended target was Ming China all along. After China, he planned to invade India.
    2. Hideyoshi asked for safe passage to China with Korean King a couple of times.
    3. Joseon Korea was a loyal vassal state of Ming China, declined the request.
    4. Hideyoshi invaded Joseon Korea as a stepping stone for his China invasion.
    5. Joseon Korea, who had lived in peace for 200 years, was unprepared. Their army was routed. Only their Navy, with years of experience fighting Japanese pirates, was ready.
    6. Korean King asked for Ming China help. Wanli Emperor decided to aid Korea.
    7. With China's help, the war tide begins to turn. The Japanese retreated to the coastal city of Busan in Southern Korea.
    8. The long peace negotiations were held between China and Japan, but no deal was made.
    9. Hideyoshi launched his second invasion in 1597. But the Allied Korean - Chinese army was ready. It ends in a stalemate.
    10. Hideyoshi passed away, and his successor ordered the remaining Japanese army in Korea to return to Japan, thus ending the Imjin war.

I read the attack of Korea was because Hideyoshi ordered Seoul to help him in an attack of china but they refused. But could be wrong....

From what I recall, Hideyoshi did want to ultimately try and conquer parts of China as well. But my sense is he also just wanted Korea for the sake of it, though I’m sure not having support from Seoul could have been one of his rationalizations somewhere in the mix. I don’t have a source that says that so I am not entirely sure. Basically speaking the consensus is that Hideyoshi had united Japan and couldn’t become Shogun because the emperor refused to approve it based on his background, so he turned himself to a new goal and that ended up being expansion into Korea and eventually China. But it failed spectacularly and ended up weakening his supporters ultimately hurting his legacy in favor of Tokugawa and his supporters who chose to keep out of Hideyoshi’s ambitions.

Wrong, Chancellor of The Realm was Daijo Daijin. Kanpaku means "Adult Regent for The Emperor"

Hi. Once again, your voice is so beautiful. I skip so many informative RUclips videos because of the narrator's irritating voice. Are you Japanese yourself? Japanese women often have beautiful voices, like dakinis almost
