  • Hey Scientists,
let´s talk about Angiogenesis - the formation of new blood vessels from already existing vasculature. We will focus on how a tumor signals the blood vessel to create sprouts. This process includes the VEGF as one of the main molecules which is released by hypoxic tumor tissue.

The importance of tumor angiogenesis lies in two issues: the growth and maintenance of the tumor at the primary site, and hematogenic dissemination to generate metastases. Although, tumor cells can create tissues in situ, this will make the tumor delimited, so an essential feature of malignancy is the cellular capacity to generate new vessels that keep the new tissues alive.
