Hi Oward and Katelyn, my name is Luca and I'm from Bari. The dessert that you actually ate in the streets of the city is a typical Christmas sweet called 'Cartellate' or 'Carteddàte' in the local dialect. They are made of thin pasta while the sauce is cooked grape must. Hope you enjoyed spending time here!
I was dying with the ladies walking in the street with all the cars! That is so typical and leaves ya shaking your head! And you can't beat delicious 'Italian fast food' at the rest stops! So good! And the welcoming spread from your host is a beautiful example of the warm hospitality of the southern Italians. The people of this region are amazing!!!
I have been eagerly awaiting your Puglia adventures! Bari is amazing! I love this region. I will say that Bari, along with the region as a whole gets very busy with crowds slowly returning around Easter (sort of the kick off to the season) and hits its tourist highs in the summer months with the beautiful weather, outdoor dining and beach clubs opening again. This region is visited by mostly Italians and Germans although it is becoming more widely visited. October is the season coming to a close and is very peaceful. I'm so happy you toured at that time because the weather is lovely and things were still open. I can't wait for your next stop! I'm loving this so much!
There are so many different KINDS of pasta here, too! That has been a lot of fun to sample and share all the local cuisines across Italy. Simply delicious! 🍽 -Howard
I have never heard of Bari! What a cool little town. That food there looked amazing! You guys always find the best places. Can’t wait for the next one! 💖🍷
What a fabulous vacation you just took me on! Bari is a beautiful, ancient city! (Trying to catch-up on your videos,). Now you’ve done it…another place on my bucket list, IF I live long enough!
Michael, wow, that's high praise! Rick Steves is an incredible guide and has enabled so many to explore Europe through decades of excellent programming. We could only dream of being the next generation! 👍 -Howard
Another great tour! Thanks for sharing. There is a deli in Chicago named Bari that has super yummy sandwiches. Sorry we didn’t cross paths at the RV show. 🍷
That was a cool stop. Walled cities are neat. I went to Rotenburg Germany and it’s a walled city and that was my favorite stop. The food looked delicious 😋. Another great video 👍🏼
Thanks so much! Bari being a walled city (old town area), parking is definitely a premium. We chose specifically our accomodations because we had the rare luxury of a guaranteed spot beneath the building. It was perfect for us so we could walk to old town and the shopping districts, but have the car for continuing our road trip south. 👍 -Howard
The production quality of your videos is incredible! I can't imagine how many hours you put into videos like this. Thanks, love following your travels!
Excited for you! We went with Avis/Budget which was a balance of lower cost but not with some of the local companies who carry mixed reviews (there are plenty of stories of people getting charged thousands of dollars for "tire rim damage" because that's NOT covered by the mandatory insurance, etc). The drive is actually quite easy and beautiful once you weave your way out of Naples. The route takes you along a toll road, but the machines happily take credit cards. Please keep us posted on your trip in January and do check out the rest of our Italy series for more places around Bari! Thanks for watching! 👍 -Howard
help us !! ... in Italy we have a great and serious problem rooted for a long time, there is a structural difference between north and south due to a policy that has brought well-being to the north because it is highly structured and industrialized, in the south too little has been done and in this video you can see that the high-speed train ends in Naples because it is the largest city in the south, unlike in the north it has already existed for several years, in Italy there is not a single nation and Berlusconi is the BOSS
I just can't get used to how Americans pronounce Croissant.. no shade 😛. I'm moving to Bari from the UK in a few weeks and your content has made me even more excited. Thank you
Hope your moving went fine! Bari is not a very international city, so I strongly recommend you learn a bit of Italian as not everyone might be able to communicate in English.
I say kwah-sohn(t) but people look at you funny in the US when you say things in the original pronunciation, depending on what it is, since so many words in English are borrowed and rarely do we use the original pronunciation (eg Paris).
What a lovely city indeed! Ah Sinterklaas ( Saint Nicholas), my childhood memories are so sweet. In the Netherlands it was traditional to have gifts ont he eve of the 5th December, the name day of St Nicholas being the 6th. With the modern world now there are presents under the Christmas tree as well now. Kinda sad the tradition is losing ground. My most delicious gnocchi meal was in Italy. I'd go back just for that. Happy travels. 👍 💖 🇳🇿 🙋♀️ 🇳🇱
So glad you enjoyed traveling with us to Bari! We used to do the same as when I was a kid! I was glad my parents did that. It really is a wonderful tradition! Ah yes, the gnocchi in Italy is heavenly for sure! Hope you have a wonderful week! ❤-Katelyn
I would like to see a video with more references to the city. With places and restaurants. I think that's why we all watch these kind of videos, to find inspiration to plan our own trip. For future reference, 14.5º is not strong for a red wine, the alcohol content of a red wine should be around 14º according to most standards around the world. For reference too, Limoncello is a drink from southern Italy, not Cinque Terre. It should be drunk on the Amalfi Coast where it is more typical. And believe me, there is no Limoncello like the one from the Amalfi coast, ironically the red wine from this region is also very good. But if you want good red and white wines...come to Portugal. Keep up the good trips, it's the best we can do in life. arrivederci
Hi Tamara! We visited Bari in late October and the weather was mild but very comfortable. Thanks for watching and hope you'll continue on the journey with us! 👍 -Howard
Loving these Italy videos! Fun and informative. I know it’s probably exhausting for you, but I so appreciate all the planning and activities you include. I’m never bored watching your videos.
What is the drive like from Naples to Bari? My partner and I are going in a few week's time to spend a few days in Puglia and can't decide whether to pick up the rental car from Naples or Bari (and get a train from Naples instead).. Thanks!
Ah GREAT question! So if you come from the train platforms, go immediately to your left and go as far as you can. Keep following the left wall until you reach the stairwell nthay leads down to the lower level. Follow that downstairs, make a left at the bottom and then continue walking and the rental offices will be there. Then they'll explain where to go to get your car, because that's in an entirely separate area 😅 hope that helps!
Michael, we rented with Avis/budget a roundtrip pick-up in Naples at the train station. Great service, and besides navigating to actually get our car we would highly recommend them to anyone. Thanks for watching, and hope you'll continue on the journey with us! 👍 -Howard
Great video and have subscribed to your channel. Nice to see Bari from the tourist perspective. My parents live there and I lived there for 7 years. For anyone travelling to Italy, please be careful of theft and pocket theft. They prawl on tourists. Very beautiful and glad you enjoyed. Those little yellow things you were eating looked like lupini. Not nuts. They're actually a bean. You're supposed to push it out and it pops out. You can buy them in America too, at ethnic specialty stores. Or you can make them yourself, just a pain in the culo.
Hey guys! Flights to Italy paid for!... We are re-watching all your vids again! Very very helpful! I suggest you go back soon. Flights were half of what we paid in 2017! I have two questions. 1. What are the places called where you pump your own wine into jugs? 2. How secure are vehicles in southern Italy? We are going to stop at beaches between Airbnb stays and were wondering if we need to devoid our vehicle of anything worth stealing if we leave it parked away from the beach.
Pablo, thanks for sharing your perspective. We think sharing HOW we got to Bari from all the way in Turin and where we stayed are important factors when considering a trip to this area of Italy.
