- A quick video showing how I bake Bronze clay in the kiln.
The clay I use is the new Art Clay Bronze. I've found it very easy and reliable on firing, in what is a very basic kiln with no fancy ramping programs.
My kiln doesn't have a temperature gage. Have you any suggestions?
Does the carbon container not need a lid on?
Also for sterling or fine silver do i need that charcoal too ? Or only base metal?
Also are they reusable, what kind of tim is that
Sterling needs charcoal, fine silver doesn't. Basically you don't want the metal particles in the clay to oxidise before they sinter or it won't work. Charcoal provides an oxygen free environment so oxidisation is kept to a minimum
So the hole is not meant to be plugged? I just bought the same kiln for metal clay and enameling. I just noticed the hole in the front, can you explain whats the purpose
It's a vent hole and no it's not meant to be plugged (I had to ask the same question!)
Can you use a normal iron box or must it be something special?
It has to be one that can take the heat. SOme iron cans will spall. I use the recommended one
