His mother, Dona Teresa, already signed as Queen of Portucale before his son, and the title was acknowledged by the Pope.
This video has some facts that were used in the Estado Novo history textbooks and are not true, and beside that mixing real facts with 19th century recycling of myths that Afonso was born crippled makes no sense. Pointing that Portugal existed only from 1090 its another misleading error. The County existed since 867 and was ruled by the Vimara Peres dinasty. Before Ramiro II of Leon ruled as King of Portugal and Garcia II was briefly King of Portugal and Galiza in 1070, he defeated the last Count of the Peres Dinasty, but later on his own brother fight and defeated him to absorb Portugal and Galiza. Lastly, Teresa of Leon styled herself as Queen for roughly 10 years. Afonso Henriques was a feudal lord that in a sense had the perfect timing to became king and start a dinasty but someone else had cleared the pathway.
@@pauloseara1638Afonso was born crippled, there are literally letters between his mother and Egas Moniz that prove it, the biggest theory here is if he was indeed son of Henrique since there is also proof that his mother had a case with Egas Moniz
@@pauloseara1638i can see u lack some information so u should not be claiming to be right or wrong when u urself dont know it, by the way Vimara Peres also tried to proclaim himself king, and what do u mean someone else had cleared the pathway? He still had to fight both against Galizia and Leon and against the army of the county of Portugal too, dont forget the county of Portugal was under rule of his mother, not him, so basically this was half of the county of Portugal against the other half plus the Leonese and Galicians

There is not much documents about Vímara Peres, you must be referring to Nuno Mendes, the last Count of the Peres Dynasty, killed in the Battle of Pedroso in 1071 against King Garcia II of Portugal and Galiza, uncle of Teresa de Leão and that way uncle of Afonso Henriques.

We're talking about the 12th century. You're confusing "Spain" the geography region with the modern territories that make up the modern country of Spain. To say that Portugal is not part of Spain from a medieval timeline, you're completely wrong. If you know anything about Hispanic medieval history, then you should be aware that Portugal is one of the five kingdoms of Spain.

5 kg sword? What? Credibility down the drain, even a montante, a Iberian claymore wouldn't weigh more than 2.5 kg, a longsword in average is about 1.5 to 2 kg and an arming sword is around 1 to 1.5 kg.
