    Here’s how u get a better speed time. Don’t click start shopping, look at the items by brand and size fill up ur cart then click start shopping and then scan. I have a 46 second per item. I usually get produce and can goods about 12 items before I start shopping

    Some great points! Cruel form of labor control is perfectly correct! But instacart REFUSES to be transparent about hackers stealing batches! I have been doing this full time for over a year and have a professional highly educated background. The demand is not going away! Rich people realize time is money, momma home with their kids don't want to leave, elderly and disable who cant get out of the house, etc. But across the US for over a week, there have been no batches offered to most of us or they are below minimum wage! Low paying, high mileage batches or no batches is all we see. IC is telling everyone who contacts them that its just slow. BS! The company was just valued at 39 BILLION dollars! I normally work 6-7 days a week, 10 hours a day and am aware of how batches come up. 5 star shopper with 3% cancellation and low shopping speeds. People cant pay their bills right now because of what is going on!

    Thank you for your informative video!! This past weekend, I noticed how upset customers really are about the higher fees! All stores were nearly empty!! Cashiers at different stores also told me that Instacart shopping wasn’t as busy as other times. And I could actually walk through a very busy Costco in San Diego. Wow! That leads me to believe that most shoppers at lots of grocery stores are shopping for Instacart. Probably like 50-75%.
    Although there are less batches in my area now than there was during the height of the pandemic, I am making more money. That’s because I have become a way smarter shopper. I will only choose batches which are profitable and will sit and wait for 15-30 minutes until I get something that’s worth it. Your trick about grabbing produce first was the boost I needed to get my seconds per item down. Thank you for that!

      I have a 3 percent cancelation rate. I canceled only 1 time a month ago and 2 times this month. Reason.. The page that provides the batch info doesn't provide enuff information. I need to see the delivery destination. I feel like ic on the 2 or 3 customer batches they sneak in the non tippers well the batch last mth that I canceled not only had a non tipper, that same batch the destination was 22 miles away from customer A. So essentially ic wanted me to shop for 2, drive to cust A not far 0.5 miles 44 items, then cust B 32 items no tip 30 something miles from A. I total projected earning 23 bux. 8 dollar base ic pay. No milage or heavy batch pay. Balance tip from 1 customer. Needless to say I would have had to drive back and worry over night the customer has the opportunity to take back said tip.. No can't do it. If I. C was a little more transparent that would prevent the need to cancel batches. But I've never had my percentage higher then 4.

I am fast, but I could be faster. What holds me up is the sending of the pics and waiting for the customer. Usually I'll go to other/nearby aisles and I'll grab the suggested item and put it in my cart while waiting. Sometimes I'll grab a few items before I hit start and scan them after. I need to work on getting a better system down to get my time down. Thanks!

    Thanks Jen for always keeping us informed and for going the extra mile to get information from IC that isn't readily available to shoppers, but SHOULD be! I am a new shopper. I have only done 1 shop. It was not a great experience but I chalked it up to being new, just learning the app & the store and knew that after a few more I would have this under my belt like anything else. I waited on a wait list for a long time to become a shopper since there were no spots available in my area. Now I'm not so convinced that's the reason at all. After watching this video, my suspicion is that everyone is put on a waitlist automatically so that you become so desperate to be called up as a shopper and by that time you are so grateful to IC for "choosing you". Listening to what you had to say in this video not only causes me to be angry but I am disgusted with IC's practices!! They use people's desperation to make a living in such hard times as a means to profit. I know a business has to make money but when it practices deceit and is not transparent to its contractors or employees, then I'm out. Fortunately I run other side gigs and have never counted on any one job or gig as my sole means of survival. I'm giving up my spot to the next eager beaver who is patiently waiting for that email from IC to let them know there is a space available for them. This company should be shut down in my opinion! Again, that's just my opinion and my experiences, so I would appreciate if everyone please kept their hate comments to themselves. Again, thank you Jen, you made my decision to leave this company an easy one! I will miss watching your videos as I always find them so informative and you are a delight on camera. I hope you continue to lobby for us contractors and make a difference! Best of luck and success to you and the other shoppers out there!

    I've somehow survived as a shopper for 2 years now. Survived all the different schemes they've experimented with. But, one thing I learned early on is don't count on Instacart. When you're a new shopper, you get priority access to batches and ratings forgiveness for I think 3 months. You'll make good money during this time. You'll think you can make a good living and might do something dumb like quit your job. But after 3 months ratings kick in and you drop below 5.0. Your income drops dramatically as other new shoppers now get all the work while you struggle. Be smart and have at least 3 other apps ready to go because you will need them to survive.

    • @JENontheGO
      @JENontheGO  3 года назад

      Absolutely 100% agree and so very strategic and smart.!! Instacart is definitely changing. They have over hired and I’m not quite sure this is a long-term opportunity for independent contractors. Having other apps is critical to ensuring good workers’ income stays safe. 💛

    Hi Jen! This is a fantastic video. Thanks for making it. I'm a veteran shopper. I'm a customer, as well. I always tip $0.22 to maximize the base pay for my shopper and I tip cash at the door. I wonder, if I never tip high in the app, does this mean the algorithm rates me poorly as a customer and matches me with lower-rated shoppers? TIA! Much love.

      For me if I see a low rate tip I don’t take the batch because most people don’t tip in person and have leave at door to avoid tipping . But if you’re doing that to tip in person if someone takes the batch I would message them and say hey just to let you know I’ll be tipping in cash . It rarely happens though . I’ve only been tipped in cash once and I’ve been batching from Oct

    Wow great information Thank You! It’s weird tho I took a $67 batch right from my couch yesterday and I know there’s an abundance of people who camp out in the Costco parking lot waiting for batches. But I have noticed in the past being in the parking lot and swiped a batch immediately and it seemed to hesitate when I know I swiped it then gave me the heartbreaking message it wasn’t available lol

      Really interesting! Gosh, don’t you wish we could pick the brain of the algorithmic management system. LOL. It’s definitely hit and miss if I have already left early in the morning and have done a shop at a store then I tend to go park and wait but if I haven’t been out yet then I surf my first batch from the couch. I’ve been in the Costco parking lot waiting after filling up with gas along with texting back-and-forth with a friend that does Instacart and she seen a batch for the store I was at and I didn’t see it at all on my screen and we are both five-star shoppers so this is all great information! Just not many in my zone. Its very discouraging

    • @JENontheGO
      @JENontheGO  3 года назад

      Hi Michelle! It is definitely discouraging, but could still turn around. There are highs and lows and the demand berries. Right now there are just too many shoppers competing. • @MonkeyhammerTP
      @MonkeyhammerTP 3 года назад +2

      I used to drive around all over the place trying to catch a good batch. I stopped doing this. Not worth it. From my experience, you drive further out to get one good batch and then end up not getting anything else good so have to waste time and gas driving back and not making money during that time. I have a 5 star rating for almost 1 year (it dropped to 4.98 only for 2 weeks). The money they pay for batches that I see is not really worth all the work you have to do. I started doing grubhub earlier this month and I make more money doing that, less headaches and don't have to break my back carrying heavy loads.

    I have noticed with my account lately that I went from a 5 star to a 4.88 rating due to having customers say they never got their order, or they have missing items, or items were damaged. I started photographing what’s in the bag after I hit confirm arrival and send those photos through message with the customer…because everything you type or send to the customer is recorded this way. I also make sure the house number is in the picture and I also send that in message as well as at the end before I complete delivery. I send a fraud report on the customers that make a complaint because I have proof that nothing was missing or damaged and that they got their order. I also and especially, take photos of cakes and flowers and fragile things because it proves nothing was broken or damaged.
    I notice that when I cancel orders..my cancel rate is 11% right now and that’s the highest I go at any given time…it goes up 1% every time you cancel a batch…that I don’t get notifications of batches until AFTER that Bach was already accepted by another shopper. If you do enough batches, your cancellation rate goes back down pretty quick and your rating goes up.
    I have lately just stopped shopping for customers and pick up mostly deliveries, which start to show up later in the afternoon and evenings. I hate shopping for customers lately because they just don’t pay or I have found that customers are leaving a big tip BEFORE you shop, but when you complete the batch and go back in to look at the batch, the customers have dropped the tip down to the lowest %..sometimes that can be $3-$4 or more. That pisses me off because I accept a batch based of number of items to shop, batch amount I can cash out upfront and tip. So I’ve gone to mostly deliveries. I had 4 deliveries in one batch today, all within five to eight minutes of each other and the batch was $63! My day was done right there because it was past the limit I set myself for each day for how much I want to make in any given day. Sometimes I get really good delivery batches.
    Just some thoughts to think about.

    • @valentin4155
      @valentin4155 2 года назад +1

      but tips are also dependent on price and customer tips a percent , whatever they choose, so the app will automaticslly adjust, not the customer. Example. Groceries cost 120 as batch starts, tipped ten percent, which equals 12 dollar tip. Now you start shopping and continue, you cannot find items cuz its out of stock and refunded to customer instead of replacing. Now say at checkout , total comes to 80 instead cuz of the items refunded. App automatically adjusts, customer still wants to tip 10 percent of total, which is 80 now , which then drops the tip to 8 dollars, ten percent of 80. Lesson here, always replce or even upsale like at a server.And of course Great customer service, memorable customer service.

    I remember you saying that prices are different for customers.
    You know when you're getting fruits n veggies and have to weigh them. It will say, the customer expects 2.15 lbs.
    I spoke to a customer today just to verify if this was correct.
    She had no idea that we were showed that. She didn't put that down. I told her she can write notes under the item and we will see it.
    This is why there's a difference. I always verify weight and quanity with customers. Instacart puts a lot of things down.

  • @kevinturner9451
    @kevinturner9451 Год назад +1

    You’re missing a very important factor here, and that’s the quality of phone and processor speed to download the batches to your phone. This is actually a very big deal and far more important than people think it is. For example, if you have a Galaxy Fold, opposed to a person beside you with a IPhone, the Galaxy will get orders significantly faster before it even downloads to the iPhone. So, be very mindful of this. Many people are not even remotely aware of this. You will always get the bigger bang with an Android phone. I actually had to transition over for this specific purpose
