Hi lisa! I used to watch your videos all the time while i was searching for a good laptop but still budget friendly about 4-5 years ago. I stopped watching your videos though, but then one of your videos suddenly popped up in my recomendations and it just felt like I was meeting an old friend! "Hey Frank, how bright do we make the light loop this year?"
    "THE SUN"
incidentally, I'm absolutely satisfied with my i7 16GB 3080ti 165hz 1TB model. I mean, yes, the battery did seppuku within a few days of it arriving... and yes, it took Dell almost a month to get the replacement/technician out... and yes, in the end they didn't even send a technician and just mailed the battery right to me and had the technician just FaceTime me to "walk me through the process"... but I mean... once it got working again I'm absolutely thrilled with what I got for my money.

I've always liked Alienware laptops except for the drivers, for some reason they seem to customize every driver so that you can't install the standard version you have to wait for them to produce a new version which is a total pita, especially if an update happens automatically which can really screw up your system - this happened to me with my R17 a year ago and eventually they refunded it. There were also issues with their customer support which is almost as bad as Starlink's (which is awful), I had at least 6 different people look at my Alienware problem, none of them seemed to have read what the preceding support people had done and I got the same questions and requests to "try this and let me know what happens", but when I sent the reply it got picked up by a different person and off we went again. Very frustrating and very annoying.

I had an Alienware with a 17 inch screen years ago. A new version of windows came out and they never updated the drivers so I couldn't upgrade. It was frustrating given how exe the laptop was that the wouldn't support it for more than a few years. Since then I've steered well clear of the brand,

You don't have to use Dell drivers you can install the driver's directly from the manufacturer's website. It is recommended that you use Dell approved driver's but that only means they had an engineer test them out and make sure there's no issues.

Thumbs up except thickness. Would prefer 4 mm additional height. The fans are very shallow. With 4-5 mm increase in height the X17 would be the by far best gaming notebook in terms of cooling. Finally quiet fans without loosing performance.

I don't care about weight, thickness, web cam, battery, speakers or size (or number) of power brick(s). I'd sacrifice all of those internals for more space for more (or larger) fans and cooling.

Sad, it looks so gross. Can be made thicker if needed for cooling, but this bezel making already short (due to the back exhaust) display even shorter, and branding under it makes bezel even more distracting and “in your face”. Alien logos have no meaning, fonts are poorly readable, and giant 17 is not even compatible with space theme - more NASCAR... And why honeycomb pattern on grills, alien racing bees? Extra keys make layout unusual and awkward for typing, very narrow touchpad has to be moved to the left and why unnecessary lighting (ever had trouble finding glass surface?)
White surfaces may become yellowish or look dirty, similarly black soft touch plastic is magnet for fingerprints.
At least the charger isn’t oversized like Lenovos. Stupid lighting though, grills everywhere, upside down mono another great feature… year after year someone is paid for this monstrosity in several colours and sizes

Hi Lisa! Great review, and one tip for you!
When you said “excuse my French” and then used the phrase “balls to the wall” at around 7:40, I think you might’ve fallen into a common misconception.
“Balls to the wall” has nothing to do with the male anatomy. It’s actually an old aviation phrase. The throttle on some aircraft were (and some still are) topped with round balls to grip and push/pull. “Balls to the wall” quite literally means pushing the tops of the throttle levers to the “firewall” or as far up or forward as they can go. It just means “full throttle”!
Hope that saves you from some awkward dinner conversations!

What on Earth fan profile are you using to have those temps? Have you simply got it on balanced mode? If you are doing that you should lower the multiplier since it is unlocked. Unlike the Alienware, other 12th gen laptops will not only NOT go over 4ghz, they won't get anywhere near it. High 2's or low 3''s, so much of the temps are justified, but still, I know of 2 guys close by to me that have one of these, and on performance mode or higher, the games do not hit 100 on CPU, ever. More mid 80's. I think by not showing us the maximum thermal capabilities of the product with higher fan speeds, that it's doing a disservice to those interested in the laptop and of course Alienware. My 2c.

@@sterlingbxyd That is on a cpu workload only, in games it won’t pull anything similar to the Alienware. Razer is always conservative in their thermals. Alienware let’s it pull power til the wall socket explodes. It’s really up to you what you want, it’s a trade off! You could limit the Alienware to pull the same wattage as the razer and the thermals would be very good as well.

You can set a TCC that prevents the CPU from hitting 100C. You can set it so it does 85C maximum

"balls to the wall" is not a phrase that needs to be excused 🤣
It's a phrase from aviation 60 years ago. The control stick had a ball on it. When making an extreme maneuver, the control stick is pushed to the extreme right or left, putting the "ball to the wall". It has nothing to do with testicles 🤣

Stupid lighting though, grills everywhere, upside down mobo is another great feature… year after year someone is paid for this monstrosity in several colours and sizes

lets speak honestly, alienware sucks.... I have spend 3K USD for this laptop and I was disappointed too much when i have turned it on and heard "KHHHHHHH-PHHHUHHH" from the loudspeakers.... And one dead pixel on the display. Next time I will not trust Alienware anymore. It suks. This was the last Alienware i have owned. Looks like they do not give a shit on their customers anymore. Alienware is finished for me..

Meh. Intel + Alienware + 17 inch. This might be the product I am least likely to buy in the history of this channel. Well, apart from anything apple.
