What I LOVED about Cary Grant was that this very handsome, very elegant man was not afraid to be a goofball in his comedies. George Clooney has that same quality.
This is a love letter to Cary Grant. And every word is true. He was perfection. And such a magnificent actor. I hope the world never forgets him. There will never be another Cary Grant.💜
My favorite line from the Philadelphia Story, by “drunk” Jimmy Stewart: “CK Dexter Haven, you have unsuspected depth!” 😂😂😂❤❤❤ My favorite anecdote about Cary Grant, was by Gene Wilder. He told about running into Cary Grant, whom he did not know, and Cary stopped while about to get into a car, to talk to him for a moment. Cary told Gene that he had recently seen The Silver Streak on a plane, and was wondering whether it was intentionally reminiscent of North by Northwest, and Gene said, indeed it was. Cary told Gene that what made both films work, was the concept of taking an average guy and putting him on an extreme situation, and seeing how he reacts to the abnormal events. Gene said he was left speechless, as Cary got into his car and was driven away…two far from average guys! ❤❤❤
A much-overlooked Grant-Katherine Hepburn pairing from the 1930s is the Cukor-directed “Holiday.” Romantic comedy, snappy dialog, and fantastic supporting cast, especially the ever-amusing Edward Everett Horton. The Deco-era costumes and decor are stunning. Not a screwball comedy, yet Hepburn is clearly having a ball with Grant. I actually prefer her films with Grant to those she made later, with Tracy.
I love this film and will be watching it this month. There was another comment here about Lew Ayres and I agree that he is easy to overlook but was really touching in Holiday.
@@anastasiabeaverhausen8220 Thañk you for your comment. Lew Ayres is an underrated actor who gets.overlooked. Kate and Lew's scenes together are extremely touching.
The Philadelphia Story is my favorite Cary Grant film AND one of my favorite films ever. Cary's role isn't showy, but he shines. I also love Jimmy Stewart and Katharine Hepburn in it. A close second is North by Northwest. Quintessential Hitchcock. Thank you TCM and Nancy. ❤❤
I am proud to have watched every one of these movies. I adore Cary Grant. There's very few comedies better than 'Bringing up Baby'. I am fortunate that, for years, I worked for an Ethiopian man who was the epitome of the grace and charm of Cary. Thank God for all of the gentleman remaining in our world.

Cary Grant and Irene Dunne were an amazing onscreen couple. My Favorite Wife, The Awful Truth, Penny Serenade. He was great with everyone. An Affair to Remember with Deborah Kerr? All of his Hitchcock movies. The list goes on and on. One of his best! These movies are all treasures.
Penny Seranade is soo good.... the scene where he begs the adoption officer not to take away his adopted baby and his vooice cracks ,it is heart breaking
I totally agree @kevinwoplin9322. Also the scene in An Affair to Remember when it dawns on him that she bought his painting and was in a wheelchair. Then he goes into the bedroom and sees it. Oh my. Very moving. Tear jerker for sure.
I watched all these films as a kid in the '60s and '70s, and they spoiled me forever. I used to write my own reviews on index cards and keep them in a file box. (I gave my eighth grade research presentation on Greta Garbo. One can imagine how super popular I was then.) Very few films since have measured up, other than those from Ms. Meyers and the late great Nora Ephron.
Wow! I’ve been mesmerized by Cary Grant in those Hitchcock films since I was a teenager. That scene in Notorious when he is on the phone and Ingrid Bergman is whispering to him remains one of the most romantic and sensual scenes I’ve ever seen in film. I first saw it when I was an 18 year old boy and it had such a huge impression on my young, romantic heart. I’ve never seen most of these films described here, and I’m so excited to dive into a Cary Grant film festival this month! Thank you for this video.
