One can just look at the gorgeously perfect face of Jean Seberg and write poetry. I still ache inside for her untimely demise. Besides this gem of a movie, she is also highly watchable in the Mervyn LeRoy production of 'Moment to Moment' in which she starred with Honor Blackman, Arthur Hill and the handsome Sean Garrison. I don't like people nit-picking, trying to find flaws in well-nigh perfect movies. See this picture once and it will resonate for months and years.
I shed a tear in the end. I've had a strange feeling that I empathize with the people who are long gone and out of this world. Some things are timeless.
Worth watching. So true to life and choices that must be made to survive with dignity.
I'm 71. I forgot about her. What a gorgeous, tragic woman. Loved this film. Only watch black & white films from the 30's-70's.
She was marvelous in Bonjour Tristesse, too.
There are lots of wonderful films in color from those years, too, and very little worthwhile from the post-1970 decades. It's a shame that so many people are put off by b/w films and don't even give them a try; they miss so many cinematic gems.

excellent story, director, actors, filmography, setting.
It's a sad story, a sad place, and a beautiful girl... her father will be happy for her in the end...
It reminds me of us, dear Scott ❤
The father to adult daughter talk at @1:18:00 is sensitive and healthy talk from the father, really impressive. In real life i don't think parenting approaches anything as great as that, fiction here is much better than reality at least from what i've witnessed around me in real life.
It's just that fathers are no longer allowed to exercise their role as fathers as they used to once upon a time whilst feminism has devalued men to shillings.
In the past century, fathers could send their daughters back home if they found them dressed inappropriately.
@@michellemobakeng5938 Thank you good historical reminder. I dug much further in finding the cause of this erosion of the role of men and truly it cannot be expressed truthfully and accurately without getting labelled as all sorts of inapropriate and false accusations starting with anti- this or ending in - phobic . Very much on this platform it's impossible to get to the gist of that discussion without being censored because it points out directly at those responsible that are very much hiding behind censorship, strawman fallacy and much more. It's really the result of the dynamics of corruption, a self chosen people small group who uses the media as a ... ok not point in even writting that word or my comment won't show. Her daddy is Protestant still he compassionately joins his daughter on a Saturday evening at this place of perdition. There, he sees the life she has in Paris.
This makes me think of Charles Dickens' novel A Tale of Two Cities.
Let me guess, the producers did not want to show New York, or any other big city in America, as having such haunts for the lost, so they travelled to Paris instead. But in those days, films gave audiences a moral message to keep them on the straight and narrow.
I am French. We are known to be the greatest lovers, srtists, mystics, warriors, cooks, fashionistas. We are not amoral, rather practical and realistic and understand that service to God and true friendship are what matters and not fleeting sexual pleasure.

Jean Seberg committed suicide at age 40.
😮😢
after being relentlessly harrassed by the fbi.
O que torna difícil para quem sabe disso não sentir sua sombra sobre o filme agora...

The French style never changed ,everyone sleeps with everyone and remain friends .A society with no morals ,no shame ,a society where there is no longer religion, people just live together without getting married till they find someone else to perpetuate the feeling of love that happens at the beginning of every relationship.

That was the best part. Her dad summed it up. She had no skills and was ageing out of the circle.

Sim! Ele parece todo engomadinho. O que pode desculpa-lo agora é que está preso dentro do persogem e dos anos 1960. Ela, não! Sua vida e morte transcedem esse papel. Ou seja, ela continua viva dentro de um mundo que já morreu...
