Wanda is still around! She's 84 years young, choosing to "retire" only as recently as 2019. She's a true icon.
That sounds right. I saw her live in Louisville Kentucky about three years ago, that would’ve been about 2019.
I saw her open for Chris Issac about 7 years ago. She still has it, man. She ran around the Elvis alright *wink, wink*
Chris chided her for the deets on stage and she was coy as all hell. She’s a cool kitten for sure!
The Queen of Rockabilly!
Beat me to it!
@@celestemartinez3560 I had to-the first ive band I ever saw in Seattle was Rockabilly. When that me;;ted down three of them moved to LA and I can point them out in the video of Stray Cats on Fridays (that was just before their LP dropped in the US).
Wanda deserves as much credit as possible for her role in Rock.
Seriously, Wanda Jackson "Lets have a Party" is one of her best.
I have it in a few of my oldies collections.
all her other stuff is just ok
She dated Elvis Presley,he talked her into going from country to rock, she’s known as the Queen of Rockabilly. Need to check out Hardheaded Woman.
She still has a ring he gave her.
YES! Wanda Jackson is amazing. You guys will love going this rabbit hole.
You gotta listen to "Hard-headed Woman" it's a rockin tune.
Rockabilly Royalty , Wanda Jackson
The Queen of Rockabilly😃
Listen to Wanda rock it out with “Fujiyama Mama”.
Great Song
So happy you finally got around to Wanda Jackson!!
I love Wanda Jackson! Great choice! She's a jewel.
I can’t believe y’all did Wanda! The undisputed queen of Rockabilly! She’s been around a long time and it’s rumored she dated Elvis. She’s a total badass!
I think she and Brenda Lee who you reacted to months ago ,with the top females in the rockabilly era. Brenda Lee was a child prodigy cutting her first record at age 9 with Dynamite. Her nickname was Little Miss Dynamite
Thank you for the Wanda Tribute! Nobody can or ever will touch that wonderful growly voice of hers
OMG, you FINALLY got around to Wanda Jackson. So few people know about her and she was so influential in early rockabilly and rock and roll.
If you get a chance to meet Wanda, she is a sweetheart and loves her fans. So knock on her door. :) And Rockabilly is fused with Country and Blues, the birth of Rock N' Roll. And later, surf music would draw influence on that style.
Love Wanda!! What a voice! She was still playing venues up until the pandemic.
She dated Elvis too!! ♥️
Probably my favorite Wanda track. I've got a photo of me with Wanda, seen her a couple of times in the UK
She remade this same song a few years back with Jack White from The White Stripes. Her voice is different but it's even grittier! Check it out ✔️

Wanda Jackson paired up with Jack White. "Shaking All Over"!
Its a real treat to look at her live performances that are on RUclips.
Always loved Wanda's raw sound!
My favorite from Wanda Jackson is "Silver Threads and Golden Needles" which was also covered beautifully by Linda Ronstadt.
"Funnel of Love" was the B-side of Wanda Jackson's1961 #29 Billboard Hot 100 hit: Right or Wrong."
You should listen to Wanda Jackson "Mean, Mean, Man", "Let's Have a Party", and see the video of her singing "Hard Headed Woman" on the TV show, "Town Hall Party". Those would have been better ones to start with. ...Saw her live in concert in Atlanta 20 years ago. She's great!
SECONDED! I mentioned her on a couple videos a long time ago, but i guess it wasnt seen. The hard headed woman clip is AMAZING! She is such a talent, and a pioneer in country, rock n roll, and rockabilly. Should also check out her singing I gotta know. Several of her clips also have the legend Joe Maphis on his signature guitar as well!
"Fujiama Mama" was another good one
they would love "let's have a party"
My dad named me Wanda because she was his favorite singer!!
Wow! I know this song by Cyndi Lauper. I had no idea it was a remake. Cyndi's version sounds just like this!
I LOVE HER! I sing her stuff at Karaoke!
Wanda toned it down a little & had a hit in the early '60's with "Right or Wrong". She also had a #1 hit in Japan, called "Fujiyama Mama".
Fujiyama Mama is my favorite of hers.
Yeah by 1961 no radio station was playing rockabilly, so she had to switch to straight country. Also, it amazes me that a song that starts "I've been to Nagasaki, Hiroshima too!
The same I did to them, baby, I can do to you!" would reach #1 in Japan. I guess they weren't too sensitive.
Wanda was a great country singers my dad love country music and listen to it all my young life
Amen, "Let's Have a Party" 🎉🥳 probably Her Best and Best Known song!!!
Do Wanda Jackson on the 1950's TV show, "Town Hall Party" singing "Hard Headed Woman". She may have still been a teenager? You'll see, that she was way ahead of her time!
that's such a great performance
Saw her play a few times when she was making her comeback in early 2000s ,she was friends with elvis and was great in that golden age of rock and roll
Yes! Finally!! Gotta love the original women of Rockabilly! Next some Janis Martin and Lorrie Collins ❤
Next for Wanda you need her version of "Riot in Cell Block #9" and "Fujiyama Mama"
it's nice to see her movements.than the album cover.cause she is good.
Cool! Sounds late '50s or early '60s. Don't recall for sure, but her voice does seem somewhat familiar. :) I LIKE IT! Thx for the Review Guys. :)
I'd never heard of her but NOW I have! She's amazing!!!
This was so great! Wanda Jackson is one of a kind.
Speaking of Okies, have you discovered The Tractors yet? “The Tulsa Shuffle” seems an obvious place to start.
Fujiyama Mama is the best of her songs! Have fun falling through this rabbit hole!
Love that song! Yeah, she’s amazing.
I saw her perform live @ Old Ironsides in Sacramento, CA and she is such a spitfire. She was not shy about sharing stories about Elvis and her life. She’s amazing!
I only discovered her about 5 years ago. She is known as the "Female Elvis". Great energy...
I got a chance to see her about 7 years ago in concert, once a rock n' roller, always a rock n' roller, she was great. I was watching pure history! Her autographed signed, postcard concert card is one of my prized possessions.
Love this! Kind of reminds me of Sweet nothings by Brenda Lee. She has the same raspy tone. You two definitely need to do a reaction to Sweet Nothings by Brenda Lee again that’s Sweet Nothings by Brenda Lee.
She’s featured in the Ken Burns documentary Country Music also
WANDA!!!
The Queen 👑 of Rockabilly 😊... A great Artist ✌️♥️
Enjoy your adventures in Music 🎶.
What would be even better is if someone in her circle sees this and then she reaches out to you herself the way Melissa Etheridge did.
Jay and Amber, a great reaction. Wanda is legend, she has loads of hits, 'Right, or Wrong', 'Fujiyama Mama', 'Let's Have a Party', 'Hard Headed Woman' are a few to check out.
So I watched this an hour ago. Wow! I had to look her up. Great story, a truly enduring talent. Watched a bunch of her songs and was boppin' with rocking sounds...Let's Have a Party, Fijiyama Mama, And her slower ones reminded me of a glorious mixture of Brenda Lee, Patsy Cline, and a dash of Hank Williams. Thanks for introducing her today.
She did an album with Jack White a few years ago. It was amazing.
There’s a lot of meat left on this musical bone, Wanda is a gem
Wow! Wanda Jackson! I’ve never heard her but she’s amazing. 🔥 I’ve heard a lot of singers try to do a similar sound, Elle King (ex’s and ohs) is the one that comes to mind. I definitely need to check out more of her music!
Thank you to reacting to Wanda Jackson Queen of Rockabilly. Even Cooler to know she is in your area, makes it even more special.
Oh yeah guys her voice is good
Jack White of White Stripes performs with Wanda on the Letterman Show for keeps! The most energetic, exciting performance!
I'm so glad you guys have discovered Wanda Jackson! 👍 There's plenty of good song suggestions being made by others in the comments here. I'm more of a fan of her rockabilly music than the country but she's one of the legends. I hope you guys react to some more of her music.
A portion of an article from Variety in August 2021:
----------------------------------
If Wanda didn’t call herself a maverick, *Joan Jett* certainly would.
“Wanda is a unique and original pioneer,” says Jett. “I know how hard it was for me to negotiate the waters, as a woman in a male-dominated world, so I was in awe, imagining the hurdles that Wanda must have encountered doing her music at the very beginning of rock ‘n’ roll. There was no blueprint. Her sound was raw and incredibly soulful. Even the boys, then, were meeting resistance from the mainstream. And yet Wanda endured and had a career that lasted decades and influenced so many that came after her. She is strong, and she knows who she is.”
Wanda is an amazing woman and so tiny and cute and also sweet and fiery. She has done it ALL!! I met her back in the early 2000's and she was so sweet and gracious. Truly a treasure and a living LEGEND! If you like the grit in her voice you have to listen to "Riot in Cell Block #9", "Let's have a Party" and "Hard Headed Woman". Also she plays the cutest pink guitar!
Oh, geez! My God. This woman is legend! This song is my fav. Another good one of hers is "I'm in the middle of a heartache". Brenda Lee's voice is very similar to Wanda's . She would be a good reaction for you . I would suggest " I'm Sorry", Sweet Nothings" and "Rockin' Around The Christmas Tree". So glad you are reacting to the awesome Ms Wanda Jackson👏
She does sound so much like Brenda Lee!
‘Thunder on the Mountain’ with Jack White from the White Stripes is a must!! Horns, guitar, and Wanda singing!!!
You gotta react to her Hard Headed Woman. The one she did with Jack White was Thunder on the Mountain. She was like 80 then but still had it. Also, Brown Eyed Hansome Man. The live Black and white version of Hard Headed Woman. It's fire.
Wow. First time listening to this. I love it
Wanda toured some with Buddy Holly.
Rockabilly legend.
This record also features fine guitar playing by the great Roy Clark.
Street named after her in Bricktown, and yeah she's still doing it, there's a somg she does with Joan Jett and Elle King called Two Shots, she's still got it
I LOVE y’all, I just listened to her song with Joan Jett, thanks to you I found another artist to put on my playlist
Saw her live. She is amazing. What a trailblazer. Fellow Okie!
Oklahoma has produced a lot of talented people Garth Brooks, Merle Haggard (who you should listen to), and so many others. A hurricane with lipstick, that is hilarious, hurricane Wanda.
That voice!
Such a unique sound she had, still does. Mean Mean Man, Lets Have A Party, just for you. Please listen, you don't have to react, they're so fire. Thanks again for this smile.
Glad you finally got to hear Wanda Jackson. Rockabilly is one of my favorite genres.
Gotta hear Let's Have a Party.
All right my babies.... I've ever heard of this artist, and I must say, her sound is unique. Thanks again for "giving the people what they want"❗ Hail to female Fridays ‼️💯🔥😎👍🏼
She was referred to as the Sweet Lady with the Nasty Voice. She had a huge career in Japan and Europe. There is a documentary film called the Sweet Lady with the Nasty Voice about her. Very interesting pioneering woman in rock, rockabilly, and country.
Nice one. I LOVE Wanda Jackson 😊
Such a treat! I love Wanda! ♥
Elvis gave her a ring and she still has it.
Wanda is the coolest lady alive ever since Betty White passed! She has that delicious growl that just oozes danger and excitement!
I have not heard this song in years. My folks had this record. I was a little kid when this was on the radio. Thanks for those memories.
Wanda also worked with Jack White from the White Stripes on a song called Shaking all over. It is fantastic.
Should have checked comments section before making the same suggestion!
I turned up the volume for this reaction. Wanda is one of a kind! She is like the Wonder Woman of music. You will love her other songs. Keep us posted on a RSR & Wanda meet and greet!
You tell him, Amber! Jay should leave her be, lol. I like it already! What a guitar! What a stage label! This is wild! That was cool! Thanks. Great reaction!
Yeah and her voice was so cool. Wild outlaw woman sound. Shocked me when I first heard her. A few years ago
Amazing voice. It's new to me. Fun stuff.
met Wanda Jackson when she played Gospel music at years ago at a Church my Family attended my kept an autograph of her in her room.
Please, Wanda Jackson !! And all those frilly dresses. Born in Maud, OK, 1937
Fujiyama Mama Wanda Jackson GREAT SONG and Super super popular in JAPAN"
Super great voice.
" drank a quart of sake, smoked dynamite
I chased it with tobbacy and then shoot out the lights!"
She did a song with Jack White and his band. They performed it on Letterman. It became the song for a movie. Can't think what it is right now. Bummer. lol She's a sweetheart. I love her. She was such a hottie in her day. She had a growl too.
Love her songs 'Right or Wrong' and Let's Have a Party. The first is my favorite. She also designed and sells her own guitars made specifically for women.
I have heard that voice before was not sure of who did what nor did i care .This channel has changed that I just want to know more TY Jay ,you and Amber have got me reeling
Still waiting for you to discover the amazing voice of Timi Yuro. She opened for Frank Sinatra when he toured Australia and Elvis was a fan. He used to check out her shows when she was in Vegas! BTW: When Elvis sang the Roy Hamilton song "Hurt", he did it the same way Timi Yuro did it! You can do her version of "Hurt" or "What's a Matter Baby" which was her biggest hit. She never got the acclaim she should have received while she was alive!
Another one from around this time you really need to check out is Brenda Lee - I'm sorry! I think you guys will really really like it!
She is as big a legend as there is in country music.
Wanda was sometimes called "The Female Elvis". As for her voice, there was one other female singer with a similar voice back in the day: Brenda Lee. Check out her giant hit (now a bona fide Christmas classic) "Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree". You've heard it a thousand times coming from the speakers in grocery and department stores every Christmas for as long as you've been alive. Now, this Christmas, when you hear it while you're shopping for goodies to stuff in your kiddo's Christmas stockings, you'll know whose singing it! LOL
She started at a very unique time in American music. Country and Rock were starting to define themselves and some went one way like Johnny Cash, others like Roy Orbison went more rockward. Miss Wanda is a power onto herself and holds a VERY special place in the American music scene.
Love this song 🎵
LOVE Wanda Jackson!
I share the same birthday with Wanda Jackson. We are both born on October 20. Just different years.
I first heard Wanda Jackson in the movie Bridesmaids where her song "Shakin' All Over" was played over the ending credits. That song is awesome and I had to know who she was and loved her music.
Thx! Our first home in America was Broken Arrow! My sister was born in Tulsa! I hope y’all check out the Rascals!
Country legend Roy Clark on lead guitar here. He was a member of her band. Amazing!
Trust me on this one, you've gotta hear her "I Betcha My Heart I Love You." It's #478 on my Top Grande of all time.
She was brilliant with the song 'hard headed woman" live and "Let's have a party!'
I saw her 10 or so years ago singing at the Grand Ole Opry with Jack White of the White Stripes. She's amazing!
I have always believed that Elvis Presley was trying to Imitate Wanda Jackson when he sang Nothing but a Hound Dog
She's really amazing.
