I keep swinging my hand through a swarm of bees ‘cause I ...
I want honey on my table
I keep swinging my hand through a swarm of bees ‘cause I ...
I want honey on my table
But I never get it right
no I never get it right
I keep swinging my hand through a swarm of bees
    I can’t understand why they’re stinging me
But I’ll do what I want, I’ll do what I please
I’ll do it again till I got what I need
I’ll rip and smash through the hornet’s nest
Don’t they understand I deserve the best
And I’ll do what I want, I’ll do what I please
I’ll do it again till I got what I need
I tried to stick this pin through a butterfly ‘cause I ...
I like all the pretty colors
But it just fell apart so I flung it in the fire
to burn with all the others
Cause I never get it right
No, I never get it right
I keep swinging my hand through a swarm of bees
    I can’t understand why they’re stinging me
But I’ll do what I want, I’ll do what I please
I’ll do it again till I got what I need
I’ll rip and smash through the hornet’s nest
Don’t they understand I deserve the best
And I’ll do what I want, I’ll do what I please
I’ll do it again till I got what I need
And this time I’ll get it right
yeah this time I’ll get it right
It’s gonna be this time I’ll get it right
Oh God let it be this time I get it right
So I’m cutting that branch off the cherry tree
I’m singing this will be my victory then I...
I see them coming after me
And they’re following me across the sea
And now they’re stinging my friends and my family and I...
I don’t know why this is happening
But I’ll do what I want, I’ll do what I please
I’ll do it again till I got what I need
I keep swinging my hand through a swarm of bees ‘cause I ...
I want honey on my table

Wrong... the bee's clearly represent the swarming masses; and the hive, be it "our system". His swinging arms represent the struggle and resentment of this world causing our sinful struggles!!!!
      OR... or...
Or he really just wants honey on his table. He quit smoking by vaping and now that he's quitting vaping... He needs to switch to tea because coffee triggers too many thoughts of nicotine. And he wants organic honey from the most aggressive bee's!!!

To me this song is about the vicious cycle of self-gratification of an individual making the same mistake repeatedly and not having the presence/peace of mind to change their course of action, or seek treatment. Ultimately, their sins and infallibility will causally and negatively affect their loved ones - whether it be spouses, siblings, or more commonly, their offspring. Pathological selfishness can be very detrimental to those exposed to it, on so many levels.

To me this song is about trying ways to make life sweeter so you can have the sweet satisfaction of all the things life has to offer. Yet you can't ever quite get there. Because there is so many obstacles. So you keep trying to get to the sweetness of life but keep getting stung and you may understand in part why your being stung but you also don't fully understand it either. While your trying to keep your struggle as your struggle you don't see how it's impacting those who love you as well. For me this song has great significance. Because for me this was my life with my son. We knew we would be stung going through the bees nest but we had no choice but to go through it. We weren't going to give up until we found that sweet spot but we never did and he passed away. Sometimes we had sweet moments that would quickly be burned back into the fight.

  • @douglaskastl7653

I think the meaning is political. Black honey “oil”. At the time this was written we went overseas for oil, smashing up countries to further our oil needs. In the process of doing this, the retaliation was happening and our fearless leaders and media would say I don’t know why this is happening? We are the most powerful country in the world, we deserve respect and we get what we want. Eventually we brought this mess back across the water onto American soil. Not bagging on one side or the other, both parties and presidents on both sides swung their hands through the beehives. “I’ll cut the branch off the cherry tree and this will be my victory”
I could be wrong though and that’s the best thing about music and art. It’s subjective. Great song “this time I’ll get it right” ;)

    • @CNNBlackmailSupport

Yeah, that's it. The bees are terrorists, AKA 9/11. The only real issue is that we don't actually steal any oil or destroy countries to get oil. Oil is the scapegoat for contracting jobs in foreign countries that launder our tax money. We just sent Ukraine 14 billion dollars. The president of Ukraine was a comedian/actor, then president since late 2014. He also happens to be a billionaire somehow. Ukraine is one of the poorest countries in Europe, so there is no way he was making hundreds of millions as an actor...

Leah Harpole Black Honey=Oil, it's about the u.s and how greedy they'll go, even it means "swinging at a swarm of bees, rip and smash through a hornet's nest" for our consuption. "Stinging my friends and family across the sea" 9-11.

    • @VinceBlack98
      @VinceBlack98 6 лет назад +29

Dustin Kensrue's description of the song's meaning:
“The song spawned from an image that popped into my head: someone continually swatting at a swarm of bees to get their honey, but somehow not understanding why they would sting back in return.”
To me personally, "black honey" is a metaphor for the dark side of humanity....our covetous nature. And how despite hundreds if not thousands of years of advancements in civilized society, we still fight one another for control of territory and resources like the animals we are. We constantly seek to obtain the creature comforts for ourselves in our own lives and in our sense of personal entitlement, we don't care who gets hurt in the process until it's someone who matters to us. Then we have the audacity to blame the other guy. Sums up both international relations and partisan politics quite nicely. Maybe next time, we'll get it right....

You know, guys, I think I understand what the song is about... Uncle Sam's hunt for oil (black honey) and their fight vs the population (bees). The multiple times it left the countries they invaded a failed state (smashed nest). Acts of terror in the USA (the bees coming across the sea to sting them). The entitlement of the federal goverment to everything good the world has to offer (I deserve the best). The all consuming greed that keeps growing and demading more than a single raid but the seizure of the long-term means of prodcution; not the communist way (cutting the branch of the cherry tree [where the bees built their nest], taking it and thus emerging victorious).
I'm not entirely sure about the butterfly part but I believe it's about the cost of an attempt to preserve something beautiful and repeated failure. I can only assume that this is about internal affairs; more specifically about the reason and the result of excess greed. US wants resources to keep the things it loves beautiful (i.e high living standards, domination, law and order on its land etc') and failing (literal-physical and social diseases of affluence and excess, political issues and environmental impact).

It’s about Heroin. Stings, “Black Honey”. do what I want, to get what I need. I never get it right… I just keep swinging my hand thru a swarm of bees.
Am I the only junkie that picked that up? It is very deep, it outlines the level of insanity you go thru, a slave, your not in control. You just wake up to not get sick, and you don’t care how much it hurts you, you never can make it right. Once a junkie always a junkie. So here we are Nation Strong with an Army of citizens just swing our selves thru the hornets nest, just to get what we need.

Psalms and Deuteronomy’s “Honey from the Rock” message.
There’s an unlikely source to find nourishments and goodness. But try to acquire it your way and you may get stung. We try doing life our way because we think we know what’s best for us, wanting secular-based goodness. Then when adversities come, we wonder why it didn’t work as we planned.
The Lord is our Rock. The source of the goodness we need and want truly comes from a source that our human minds consider unlikely.
Side note, Thrice is not “Christian Band”, but their members have declared that they are Christians.

Is a Revolutionary song like Rage Against The Machine "Killing in The name"
The political track uses the imagery of a man swatting at a beehive in search of honey as a metaphor for the creation of the islamic State of Iraq and Levant as a consequence of United States involvement in the Middle East, using the titular "black honey" as a euphemism for oil. So once more Vladimir Putín was right and this band too but too complicated to recognized it .
    What a euphemism! 🤷.
