Frankly, I enjoyed watching you put your new studio together so I could drool over all the great stuff you have! haha. I was thinking that if you cut out a heavy piece of fabric, you could screw in 2 tiny screw hooks under your bench, latch the fabric on each end to the hooks, and then using a long cord you could sew the cord into the other end of the fabric and tie it around your waist, to catch all saw dust while you saw. Then you just unhook it when finished, roll it up and shake it outside or in a pail.
You have an "office (studio)"!!! So great; a dedicated space. It looks really good.. you probably have something already,, but I was thinking how a stone would shatter on the tile of it dropped. Maybe one of those rolling desk-chair pads? Congratulations B!
Love your Studio, natural lighting is important, can you recommend a class?? I have more then enough tools, I was lucky to find someone who had retired, with a big heart ❤️ pretty much gave me everything he had. As long as I can remember I’ve always had a passion for creating. I can’t think of anything I desire more. Please guide me if you can. Thank you. Blessings to you and your business 🙏

Basia, you being a full-time goldsmith needs a dedicated space, although what you had in Bristol was wonderful, going to your studio, your workplace is a state of mind as well as a place of work. Focusing your mind into work mode when you go through the door will I hope allow you to concentrate on your art and not the world outside. I'm hoping your new toys, or even tools will allow you to grow into the new space as you perfect the layout. I'm also hoping sorting the lighting and echo will allow you to ignore the technical aspects of filming and just go ahead and produce the wonderful videos we are used to seeing from you! I must admit the thought of going back to learning from your films fills me with joy, I, and I think a lot of other people have missed your work. I know it was necessary for you two to move back home, and I'm glad you're getting settled there. Is there anything we can do to help you get back into your stride with work? Send you pieces of art on handmade paper for you to put on the walls to absorb sound waves? I was watching the first art studio set up after your move, it was temporary right? Now you are having a separate location for the studio. Sounds fun! Just want to make sure im following well. Love watching your videos and can relate to not having the space to work. I traveled full time and lived in a small truck for 3 years and my studio had to travel with me. I now have a home and have a beautiful desk. Although it works for now i would like to save up for a true work bench ❤️ thank you for taking us along on your journey!

This is a temporary bench (my jeweller's bench is at home, because it was very difficult to move to this new space, so for now I'm using this desk). It is a normal desk that I've found second hand, it's not a good height, that's why I'm mounting my bench peg in the bench vice for now (check out previous video if you're interested in more details). I miss my bench a lot, but this one will work for now :)

The question is if the studio is very far from your house? And what happens if there are orders to make and how much time do you spend working in the studio every day?
I would absolutely prefer tuo have the studio in the house, but I don't have a house 😂 I'm renting a falt, and therefore have to have a rented studio space. Of course it would be better and nicer to have that space close by, but sadly that's not always possible.
Hiya Lady Stardust, at last, you've landed in your new studio! Yes, we could hear the echo lifting as you put more sound-absorbent things in. We all do it, but are we right to? I mean, it never hurt us, or did us down? But we keep on putting it in a lower place, lower than it deserves? OK, what the hell am I talking about? Your Dremel touch, that has served you well don't forget, why do we call them less than the Smiths Little torch? It just gives us less control over the amount of oxygen it uses, but it still worked very hard and well for a lot of years to help you make your art. So spare the poor guys feelings and tell it you still love it, will still use it when you need a smaller, controlled flame, it's forte. We both got the new set up at the same time, no mine is still in boxes too, I need to go and get the propane set up, non-return, gauges, valves, tank, etc... But for the sake of all of us who haven't upgraded yet, thank your butane torch, long may you melt solder. I seem to remember being told that artist studios were preferred to be North facing as the light was constant all day long, not moving around but even. I love the clamp in the vice, a real touch of genius there dear lady, thank you for sharing it with us, I'm going to get an adjustable vice very soon. Can you get the sticky pad hooks there? I think 3M make them? Take them off in time with no mark and no holes just fit a new sticky pad to re-use. I use them for pictures and Xmas tree lights. I may have some spare I can send. Perfect as curtain tiebacks, and for pictures. Are you not going to be using your apron to catch the lemel at your bench? I do. Not as flash as yours, just Cookies denim. The mat made for office chairs does sound perfect. I'll write more as I think of it, so stay safe the both of you, Steve xx...
Glad you were able to hear the change in echo! I'll keep thinking of ideas to lower it as much as possible (the sound in my old room was perfect). That should light the whole benchtop to show us what is there. Like the light that the flex shaft people sell. Forgot the name. If you need more light, you may well do, use a more local light to light where you need, plus the daylight through the windows. The room light put a daylight LED bulb in. OK, why all daylight? It will reduce eye strain to have them as near as possible all the same. Daylight changes a bit during the day, ignore that. You sitting at your bench will put a shadow from the room light but it will lift general light level. So a more spot light shines where you are focusing your eyes and the camera. All daylight bulbs will help with filming too, more even light. A rubber mat on the floor under you will stop a hard reflection. Pictures on the walls, white-tac, as opposed to blue, less marking. The paper will absorb, any cloth, cushions, wall hangings, all absorb sound waves and improve video sound. For now a heavy cloth, a blanket for example, on the floor, behind you, even bunched up near the wall behind you is great for absorbing. We make perfect echo boxes, floor and ceiling, pairs of walls, all parallel to bounce sound back and forth, so anything that interferes, and is absorbent... Wood is better than plaster, the cloth is best. My past coming out, helping my friend Brian recording choirs and brass bands, plus lighting for TV. Stay safe, Steve xx...
