The Good the Bad and the Ugly: Opinions by me xD
    The Good:
    - Shield changes, I love that larger ships get more shield by default, it makes a lot of game play sense and provides a good justification for huge honking battleships. I worry though that it's still going to be pointless to build huge battleships for end game fights because things like the Tovera melt through shields so quickly. With ~200k shields, you get about 30 seconds of combat with a Tovera before hull damage if you aren't playing the spinny spinny dance. As evidenced by the Gladiator, a ship with ~200k shields is going to be tough to make spin so you're going to take a lot of damage if you rely on your shields for defense.
    - Weapon CPU balancing, I appreciate anything that simplifies number crunching, and I think it is a welcome change to be able to seamlessly choose between defensive and offensive load outs.
    - Multiple tiers of thrusters and weapons, a welcome change from vanilla where once you got up to drive thrusters, the only way to get more thrust was more of them. I love building compact ships, so being able to boost the thruster performance without bloating the size is a much anticipated feature for me.
    - A reason for trading to exist, while it doesn't make a huge amount of lore sense that our magical constructors can make some things but not others when we should have access to the same raw materials that all the factions do, I appreciate seeing more components that can only be bought or looted. I think it would be awesome if certain components could only be acquired from certain factions, so to acquire them, you'd either have to trade, or do battle with said factions. I do worry that supply will be vastly overwhelmed by demand, which will cause either frustrating grinding hoping for favorable RNG, or tedious waiting for vendors to restock.
    The Bad:
-CPU to thrust and power output, I think there still needs to be a lot of balancing done. It seems like you can have a well armed ship, a ship that can power itself, or a ship that can move, but not more than one of those at a time. The thrusters do seem like they cost less CPU than RE1 at the moment, but your Gladiator example was already over a million CPU and looked like it would have needed 3 to 5 times the number (or tier) of thrusters to start moving, which would in turn require more power, yada yada yada. It feels like the building system and combat balancing are geared towards big, heavy CVs, but the CPU system is geared towards compact, efficient, spartan vessels and you can't really build a ship that is both at the moment.
-The balance seems off. Your Hell Divers Destroyer looks like a pretty reasonable mid-early game ship, not super powerful but not helpless, a good upgrade from a bare bones starter, however it already requires the most advanced and difficult to craft CPU extenders. I like the idea of making the advanced equipment difficult to acquire, however when a not all that impressive performing ship requires the high end CPU and devices to function adequately, you're looking at there not being any room for end game ships and having mid-gamers be a frustrating slog to get to.
    The Ugly:
Nothing! The new devices, the icons, effects, everything is gorgeous and looks phenomenal! Seriously, everything I'd seen has been top notch, a very impressive assortment of additions and upgrades!
Conclusion: It took me a while to get used to RE1's changes, and I wasn't very happy with many of them initially, but now that I've got them figured out, I enjoy most of them and can at least tolerate the ones that I don't like as much, so I'll reserve final judgment for after the release and I've had a chance to familiarize myself with the changes. That said, I'm getting more excited the more I see. I do hope the balancing can be refined, I know it's a tough wire to walk and it seems a bit skewed now, but I am hopeful that things will reach a happy medium. My biggest fear at this point is that there will be an unreasonable amount of grinding. I don't mind, in fact I enjoy completing difficult tasks to accomplish or acquire things, however I want to feel like I'm making progress, mindlessly repeating the same task over and over ad infinitum to get the components for one device is the kind of thing that ends my play through before I get the end game gear so I really hope that the methods of farming the un-buildable components are refined and polished so that they don't become dredging slogs of boredom, see drone parts and legacy fragments are in RE1 😐
Thanks for giving us the showcase and keeping us informed Spanj! We wait, anxious and excited for the full release!

I have long detested the concept of having to find a trader to BUY specific parts in RE1 and so it seems that will continue. I have resorted to editing a lot of config files so that these advanced parts and resources are able to be looted. And no, I still haven't gotten parts to build a Fusion reactor after loot the entire planets Abandoned buildings and all Zirax pois.
I love Reforged Eden, I just would like to be able to loot or find those parts. Having to find a specific trader to buy two or three pieces doesn't work for me.

I remember an earlier preview (with jrandall?) where it sounded like the goal was that shields don't tank all damage, or that certain weapons penetrate a certain percentage of shield. I think the goal might be to force the players into taking damage always instead of the "run away for a little while to recharge" gameplay that we've had for so long. If we get some alternate or better ways to handle repairs, I'm all for it.

    • @samsquatch7285

Shields only reduce damage from kinetic projectiles now (but these take small amounts of shield down with each hit). Plasma, laser, EMP will damage blocks and devices while they also chip away at your shields. Once your shield is down, the projectiles will start hammering blocks and devices.

  • @Biefbacon
    @Biefbacon 4 месяца назад +2

Not sure how I feel about the shield changes. I like that shield generators alone will have pretty decent shield capacity, but I don't know if I like armour blocks providing more shields. If anything armour blocks should lower shield strength, so there's an interesting tradeoff between shield and armour strength, instead of the only consideration being the weight of your ship. Also, it always seemed weird to me that you needed this super cheap extender to make an extremely basic ship. I'd just give the default core more CPU, and then make the basic extender more expensive so it's an early game goal rather than something we all expect to come with a ship by default.

I like the changes because monster ships like the old dreadnoughts are becoming viable again, everything had become about efficiency aimed at one ship tier, so small warships prospered and properly big ships were just sitting ducks, waiting for their silly small shields to fail. Big ships should feel like a boss fight and not just because of how many guns are on it.

  • @RollinShultz

I'm playing RE2 now and for about a month. It being in Beta I had to scrap about twenty saves after and update and begin again. I have had better luck bringing in my vanilla ships than anyone's RE ships. Note that no matter what ships you bring into the game, the program makes substitutions as someone has seen fit to set it up.
I have found in the case of thrusters, they substitute ion thrusters for whatever you had. Ion thrusters don't cut it especially on higher gravity planets. For my biggest CV, I exchanged the ions for anti-matter thrusters, and it flies.
Weapons are cumulative. For example: You can have four medium weapons, mix and match as you please. Eight light weapons also mix and match. Two heavy weapons. I guess making OP ships is out. I'm playing with cpu limits off, so no matter what extenders I add it stays at T1, but that's how I roll so there's that. I do try to build so that if I publish a ship and the player has cpu on, then it should be OK. Let's face it ships with a lot of combat armor and / or Xemo blocks are going to be heavy.
I find it weird that a ship like I use for smashing Zirax structures doesn't get fazed by cannon fire, but after the vase is down my shields quickly succumb to small arms fire. By the way it still is frustrating that the sights disappear for those of us who are red/ green colorblind. How long will it take for the main devs to offer color choices for HUDs and other aspects of the game that are standard in most well-developed game? Do they even care?
Still I am playing it and I hope to see more RE2 videos ahead.

It's going to take a fair bit of experimenting to get the jist of new systems.
Refitting an old ship to ship seems limited. So far most CPU is dumped into just movement. (More testing shall be done)

I'm fine with it being difficult to acquire materials, ect, but it looks like the CPU restrictions are at odds with the power/thrust/weapon balancing. I'm playing with a group of 6 in our own coop server right now and I am not really enticed by this.

    • @Spanj
      @Spanj  4 месяца назад

You cant think of the balancing at all like RE1 its entirely new. But that also goes for the enemies. The overall objective is less guns but they're more powerful. so in RE1 you might have 10 turrets on your ship but in RE2 you can do the same with 5 turrets. When you look at it in the context of RE1 I agree it looks impossible but you have to kinda forget everything you know from RE1.

I'm not thrilled about the CPU changes. Lots of balancing needs to be done. It seems like Vermillion wants the game to be harder and as an unintended result... less fun. If RE2 released like it is now I can see a lot of multiplayer servers just straight up turning off CPU entirely. I foresee the multiplayer servers that don't turn off CPU in RE2 will become ghost towns / dead servers.

Polaris could have energy weapons and farr, long distance balistic.
Pirates, disruptive weapons, as several consecitive hits on a turret, disables it by 10 seconds.
Or increase the power consumpion/cpu usage

"this changes everything".... and by everything i mean they adjusted numbers for balance and gave items with the same functionality that they used to have new names and slightly different resource costs. this barely changes the design process and the meta... that is miles away from 'changing everything' even if you're just talking about building, this seems like a minor update/balance change, not a 2.0..... also i give it a month before the free shield on blocks destroys aesthetic build styles and servers are gonna be flooded with brick ships with blocks just piled on for shields

Aren't all the non-craftable components in RE2 creative mode just going to be unlocked with schematics like they are currently in RE? I wouldn't imagine plasma or antimatter thrusters needing to be purchased.

It sounds cool but I don’t love the idea of starting over with all new ships. And relearning a new mod. Why does no one like the rapid fire torpedoes. I like them. No thanks,; I won’t go to RE 2 until it’s live and RE is gone. I don’t want to start over until I have too.

i hope re2 has alot of little gameplay loops without that one huge gab. So you have to do more and have many little success moments who are motivating. The game have enough frustating moments

i hate that you need special kits for almost everything and you dont get enough unlock points at all, so they try to force you to do boring missions for more unlock points and special kits you need for every good thing. all in all re2 is 4/10 at most, i have seen less grindy korean mmos

I only had to watch 3 minutes of this video know RE 2 is not in my future. Having a gimped CV is not fun at all. Playing as a single player, that "starter CV" you show case is a super end game CV. If this is what RE 2 going to be, it's certainly not something that looks like it would fun. More like grind for nothing, I already have games like that, that I don't play.

I'm disappointed in your depth of research here. Superiors have a cap of 2, not 1. All of those are made in the new Universal Constructor. You need to actually play the game. You're falling into the trap that so many people have. PLAY THE GAME. Build real ships. Test them against the new enemies - which have all been re-factored.
