  • On this week’s Academy Of Tone, Thomas is joined by special guest Alex Beyrodt to get the exclusive lowdown on Alex’s amazing new album Weekend Warriors, to jam some tunes from it and to hear Alex’s best stories about his experiences in the iconic Rock Meets Classic live show.
Amazingly, Weekend Warriors is Alex’s first ever solo guitar album in his 30+ year career - and it was the COVID-19 pandemic that actually gave him the time to think about finally getting around to making a record of his own.
Weekend Warrior features 11 rocking instrumental tracks - Alex lets his guitar do the talking for him - and it is a solo album in every sense of the word: Alex wrote, recorded and produced the whole thing completely single-handedly, and also played all the instruments himself! And of course the AMP1 Iridium Edition is all over it.
On the show, Alex and Thomas will talk about Weekend Warrior from every angle: how and why Alex got the inspiration for it, the writing and recording process (and the challenges of doing all this during a pandemic), and his thoughts and expectations now the world is getting to hear it. The guys will also jam to some of the highlights from the album and talk about Alex’s favorite riffs and the gear - including his AMP1 settings - he used to lay down the tracks.
We’ll also talk about Alex’s illustrious career to date, from his work with bands and projects like Sinner, Primal Fear, Voodoo Circle, Silent Force, Go Music, and The New Screamers, to his otherworldly experiences with rock’s A-list in his work on Rock Meets Classic. During his tenure as a six-stringer on the show, Alex has shared stages with the likes of Alice Cooper, Glenn Hughes, Steve Lukather, Ian Gillan, Paul Rodgers, Joey Tempest, and Don Felder - so there are plenty of amazing stories to be told! And probably some that can’t be told too ;)
Finally, Thomas and Alex will reveal some of their best stories from their own experiences of working together - the guys have shared many stages in their time, and there will be more Blug/Beyrodt action coming in 2022 and beyond! So join us as these two experienced axe-slingers chat and tell tales of the road.

I see Alex is using the AMP1 Iridium Edition. I'm selling my big rigs and going to become an AMP1 Iridium user. The tone is awesome you convinced me when you had the Shootout with the AMP1 Iridium against all the Hi-Gain Amps. Thomas, you have made a fantastic product with your Amp 1 company congrats to you. Do you have any guitar players in the USA that you endorse?

Hi Thomas and the AOT team. Really loved episode 101 and also am massive fan of Gary Moore red strat era. Your End of The world intro tribute was fantastic. Would you be able to post your settings for Corridors Of Power tone for Amp1?
Keep up the brilliant work and thanks for these weekly AOT shows.
    Cheers
    Ken

A bit late but if not already mentioned below by somenone: 1978 Weekend Warrior by Ted Nugent, sorry for mentioning one of my first records I collected 😊 But I will definitely check out Alex's record too!!!

      Funny! Same title…
No we ( Alex and myself ) have to check out the other weekend warrior album that we don’t know… 😂

@@BluGuitar Sorry, I was wrong, it's plural: Weekend Warriors !!!
Alex is safe, no worries about copyright issues😄
I guess I should listen again to my old stuff, otherwise I do further mistakes when comparing it to new released records...
Btw, as the Saarland is not as big as the other federal states, people from there seem to know Your name: in the workshop of the IT company I'm working for two participants from the Saarland and me were talking about music and I mentioned Your name: they knew about the Stratking thing. But they didn't know about Your company and your previous job before I told them about that. So finally tomorrow it's an opportunity to wear my BluGuitar T-Shirt ...

I enjoyed this Clip really a lot, Thank you for that. About the Gary Moore stuff I had a flashback way way back in the early 80's talkin about an event at Illtalgymnasium (Saarland of course). Me and some Gary Moore crazy friends had the experience of a Band named 'Bartok'. There was a very young guy, think about 16 years old, long blond hair, playin' guitar like hell. And he intoned Gary Moore ... "Falling in Love with you". Absolutely amazing. I was totally flashed about this talent. Vocalist Willi Biegel introduced this young dude as "Thomas Blug" ;-) Memories :-)

Ha! I remember it too!!! Illingen…
Willy, and two of the best keyboard players !
      These were the days…
      …when I was 16…
      Great memories too…!!!

I Love Alex because of his first output and the song devils daughter! So I see him with voodoo circle live first! He is a great player more like Ritchie - my god! And I love his outputs so much! Also primal fear but I think there he is underrepresented

Michael Schenker inspired all of us! But Wolf Hoffmann from Accept is a great player as well. I love Jabs as well, you guys must have something in the water in Germany! So many great German players.

    • @BluGuitar
      @BluGuitar  2 года назад +1

Well I always thought it was the English guitar players for me… Blackmore, Gilmour, Beck, Page…
I believe the Germans were kind of the next generation inspired by the British but then doing their own thing with maybe a bit more melodic Classical background???!?!

Gary Moore attacked the guitar! Alex is one of my favorite guitar players. I have followed him and Primal Fear for many years, they are a wonderful band!

15:19 same here. I was blown away. The tone, the feeling, the honesty. The only downside was the editing by the ZDF guys while Ian Paice does his drumsolo. The most horrible editing i´ve seen so far. But other than that, a masterpiece. ruclips.net/video/qK6dq7zkkI4/видео.html I´ll never forget my goosepumps on 4:45 Still incredible. ✌🏼

Cool, thx for this!!! Corridors of Power my first Gary Moore record. I missed this concert but saw another one together with Jack Bruce and Ginger Baker later in the 90th I guess. But there he already used a cherry burst or similar Les Paul in that concert, great sounding too.

22:19 this problem is more pronounced with fewer springs in the back of the trem. Possibly adding a spring or two will change the nature of the problem for that player. I remember having this problem with a guitar and realized years later it was because I had adjusted the trem to be easy to press not knowing it would have side effects.

Interesting, Alex is one of the best german players i know, and he did not know anything about the Lydian Mode ?
Alex and Jazz thats unbelievable !!! :-)
And yes of course the interaction between the speaker and the Amp, specially the design power stage, is so important and from an electronic engenieers perspective it is very complex too.

    • @BluGuitar

A great musician doesn’t have to know theory! It’s more about your imagination and vision, feel and finding ways to realize your ideas… Alex has that as many of our heroes!!!
Most of them know as little or even less…

thomas ,.should i turn down the audio interface gain to 0 while i'm recording with amp 1 and blubox or multi effects like helix floor ?

    • @BluGuitar
      @BluGuitar  2 года назад +2

I don’t know the sensitivity of your interface. For proper gain: I would check your interface gain from lo / 0 upwards to the point where you have about 3-5 dB left for headroom… just make sure that there’s no pad function active if not needed….
