Harvey Mason was typically their drummer, for many of their eclectic soulfully jazzy fusionistic sessions .. and their vocal harmony is jazzy but soulfully sweet .. very Marvin Gaye-like too ... like Marvin and his brother Frankie.
The Mizells could do no wrong in the mid-70s; they were incredible. The rhythm section of Chuck Rainey on bass and Harvey Mason on drums w/the other musicians on top, that's some next-level shit.
You're right, man! Pure magic! I've read on an interview to Larry Mizell that the moments they loved most on a recording session were the rhythm parts.. which were always the root of their productions (you can usually find the same legendary cats on most of the tunes they produced..).. Also love another trademark of their.. the singing.. always takes the piece to another level.. Mike
@@RadicalTadpoles1000 I heard it from Mind Fusion Vol 2 Jazz Funk Soul. Tons of timeless gems on that one, as with the other Mind Fusion series, check it!
charlessavarese I have the album and have the album on CD. I'll dig them out and check out the liner notes. Soon as I have the info, I"ll get back to you.
+charlessavarese It's definitely Harvey Mason; I've got the record but it's not necessary to check ;) You can hear it in his playing; the licks, the cymbals sound...!
Harvey Mason is one of the drummers on this 8 track vinyl album (the cd has bonus cuts) -- but, Fritz Wise -- an LA studio drummer -- is listed as a drummer as well. Unfortunately, the album does not break down who played what. Some posters claim they can tell it's Mason on this track, so maybe it is. Even other sources that lay out the musician's names do not itemize the players and what songs they play on.
Beautiful!!!! Sounds like a blaxploitation movie theme song. Mizell brothers on vocals and Harvey Mason on the drums!
The epitamy of jazz funk. johnny hammond is a genius up there with herbie hancock, george duke.
Madlib the bad kid! How can you not like this
This is brilliant.
This song would make a great movie or series soundtrack . Harvey Mason is a phenomenal drummer.
10 years, less than 60k views, it's just not right - this is fusion masterpiece!
Bob Saint-Clair Gives me chills each time I hear it.. Those mizell brothers vocals are everything... This is a masterpiece.
