Fenix E03R V2 Keychain Flashlight Review

  • This is a field test of the Fenix E03R V2 keychain flashlight. The test was performed at a campground at the LBJ Grasslands outside of Decatur, Texas.
    Both white and red output modes are demonstrated. This is not normally a light I would review on the channel. The field test was requested by a number of long-time subscribers. I did not receive the light from a distributor; I purchased it out of my own pocket. These viewers wanted a focus on the High mode, which is what was done in the video. I ignored the 'pulse' mode, especially since it impresses me as one step removed from a fidget spinner.

    The very best field test of a flashlight on the internet! Great job.

      Thanks. It was okay. Kind of a quick insert between two already planned tests. The battery endurance test is also now online. Thank you.

      And the price is irresistible! It doesn't even cost $49 like some people think. Better hurry and grab one if you want the limited edition multicolored body. Does anyone know if they make a small belt clip for these? I searched their website and the Canadian site but found no evidence of such an accessory. I gave up and ordered the flashlight by itself.

      Do you already have one? I bought one last month and it is insanely bright. However, the next level down is perfect for 99% of my usage. I just wish they had put two buttons: one for the lock/battery level check and one for everything else. It's just too much to go through and it's always confusing. I still can't remember how to check the battery. Also, it irks me that they don't make a rubber belt clip to carry it on your side when walking or some kind of hands free clip.

    Thanks for the review.
    Two questions: Does it have memory mode where it remembers that last setting you leave it on?
    Secondly: Is the rechargeable battery replaceable?
    Thanks

    • @L5-SAR
      @L5-SAR  Год назад +1

      Memory for the last white light output level. Internal battery. Kind of makes me grind my teeth, but I like that High output and would only ever use this in an occasional and intermittent capacity. Thank you.

    • @stuartsaunders7670

      I can atest to the fact yes it does have a memory where by it always reverts to the last used brighness level reducing the need of unescesary scroll through the options,
      Re battery no mention in the included paper work of battery replacement looks to be factory sealed with no obvious means to open it.

    For me, the last light level is not saved as soon as I use the (lock), only the red light. Is that the case with the lamp or is there something wrong with me?

    Hi nice review, I have one of these and love it, A because its deceptively powerful if ya need it great intuitive inter ace but especially because I can lock it off as my last key chain light a Klarus was often getting inadvertently turned by accident and if i didnt notice result in a flat battery.
    My question is what is the purpose or the idea behind the so called " Breathing light function"? Its lost on me!
    Cheers and thanks

    • @L5-SAR
      @L5-SAR  5 месяцев назад

      It impresses me as close to a fidget spinner, but might possibly be useful if you are afraid of misplacing the light - say while camping. The people requesting the field test were uninterested in it, so I ignored it during filming. Thanks.

      The lighted area around the switch can be useful as an indicator - see the battery burn down video for this product on the channel.

    Is there a lockout mode? Might have missed that in the review.

    • @L5-SAR
      @L5-SAR  Год назад

      Yes. I generally don't illustrate that in the reviews since it always works as described on the web site or user's manual. Most people have been to the web site before they hit my channel. They are largely interested in beam shots in realistic environments, so I try to get there as quickly as possible :). Thanks.

    Sir🙏
    Which one will you recommend for long runtime on high Fenix E03r V2. O Or Fenix E18r V2. O ?

    • @L5-SAR
      @L5-SAR  Год назад +2

      I don't have experience running either of them in a constant-on setting; I use them for intermittent illumination. According to the Fenix Lighting burn down charts, the E03R V2 has the advantage when comparing highest illumination levels. Comparing 500 LM output on the E03R V2 to 350 LM output on the E18R V2, they are fairly close. These are theoretical (i.e. lab conditions), but seem to give the advantage overall to the E03R V2. I plan to do a burn down timelapse of the E03R V2. Perhaps a side-by-side burn down would be interesting. Thanks.

    Any idea what the breathe mode is for?

    • @L5-SAR
      @L5-SAR  Год назад

      It's kind of like a fidget spinner. The ring around the power button slowly pulses on and off. The light already has a great red beacon, so it's kind of an 'oooohh .... ahhhhh' thing. Main reason I ignored it, along with the people requesting the field test wanted to concentrate on output on High. Thanks.

    • @zero604
      @zero604 8 месяцев назад +1

      It's so you can find it easily in the dark, like a beacon.

    • @largol33t12
      @largol33t12 6 месяцев назад

      @@zero604 I've heard of hikers using such a feature to find their way back to camp if they have to trek out a few hundred feet on an unknown trail. As long as you have a compass and understand declination, you can find your way back to the flashlight. That's why some have a beacon feature.

      That is the question of the day! fenixlighting.com does provide a burn down chart, but those are theoretical and under 'lab' conditions. I think the best thing to do once I clear out the review backlog is to come back and film a timelapse burn down in High mode. Thanks.
