You should be using a brush to paint on the liquid latex in very thin layers and building up to the final product, not just dumping it on and filling the entire mold in one go. When you paint it on in thin layers you insure that you are getting the latex into every last crack and crevice and you're not going to end up with voids in the final piece.

Hello, I am a new subscriber. There is a tree in my garden. Its leaves are large and soft. When I remove any paper, it drops a white sticky liquid. Is this the latex?

Great question. I do not think that is liquid latex. Just because liquid latex is not sticky when fresh it’s very watery before exposed to air. But that is very interesting with that tree. Let me know more.

If you can't source latex locally then silicone is also used to make costume prosthetics. It's a more expensive option, but if you're just going to make a one off prosthetic or a small handful of them then it's a one time purchase and the cost difference isn't really going to mean anything. The only reason big production companies use liquid latex is because they're making prosthetics constantly and almost always making bulk batches of each prosthetic they make. So the cost of the material being used is a persistent budget concern.
