I remeber when my Mum woke me up. " Frank! Get out of your bed! There is a Band on TV you always listen to!" Immediatly I jumped out of bed and rushed in front of the TV and watched WIRE live. Thanx Mum! 😘
I feel icy I feel cold I feel old Is there something here behind me? I'm sublime I feel empty I feel dark I remark I am mesmerized By my own beat Like a heartbeat (In it's own beat)
I love this! It feels good recognizing bands that seem long forgotten, especially in my little American town. Wire deserves the recognition. Post-punk revival for life!
@@cromptoniserI’m hoping the OP finally learned to make that distinction in the last 16+ years since he/she posted this comment. I do get tired of the ‘post punk’ label being slapped on these PUNK pioneers. Yes, they took their sound well beyond the borders of standard “1-2-3-4” punk, but that doesn’t change the fact that they were a first generation punk band. The term ‘post punk’ really doesn’t mean much anyway.
I always thought ian curtis was basically just an epileptic colin newman wire deserves far more credit then they are given, deffinetly one of the best bands of the 70's
Great to hear, but I guess I miss the whole music scene of the 80's and 90's. Today there is no music scene; only pop stars who call themselves "Artists".
great band from the post-punk era just like the chameleons uk, and the sound, the comsat angels amongst others, joy division etc, departmet s is fine as well...good music never to come back again...lets treasure it until we die brothers. I must admit though that I like interpol which is a rescent band. thanks for the video (hope you have a few more)
Maybe because it's one of their most minimalist, and still builds a tremendous amount of tension and emotion. A lot of mediocre punk bands write generic songs with 3 chords. Wire writes sublime masterpieces with 1.
It was nice that Big Black did their cover of this, but they missed the drama and tension and went for bombast. As shown here, it should graduate from a whisper to a scream. Beautiful audio/visual quality too; far better than my wobbly old VHS bootleg...
I wish someboby would post some material fron "Sad Lovers and Giants" which is another excellent band. Please If there's someone out there that has some material from them PLEASE post IT.
Yes, cool, but "vanduardiast"......? I don't know if you are trying to be ironic...but maybe the correct word is "avant garde", yes , that's right. english isn't my natural languaje, is the same thing if you try to write in spanish or in timbukuduki.... But the music is Universal, and wire is one of my all time fave bands. And well, anyway ........YOU UNDERSTAND ME.....RIGHT? "vanduardiast", je,je,je,je , sorry I wanted to write LOL.....

this is in fact Wire/ pinkflag's "official" RUclips which is why there are only videos we own rights on here..
Bite my wire , cmon
Wow, Wire are easily my favourite band of the 1970's, three perfect albums in a Row.
Me too @Zorgdos Mistress 💋
17 Years! You still there bro?
I feel icy I feel cold I feel old Is there something here behind me? I'm sublime
I feel empty I feel dark I remark I am mesmerized By my own beat Like a heartbeat
(In it's own beat)
Fancy meeting you here.
Thank you xxx. Mistress Bex 💋

one of the most astonishingly innovative bands in the imitative punk scene, huge inspiration to my Str8 Sounds projects, oh yeah!!!
Chills, every time.
“I feel icy, I feel cold......I’m sublime, I’m sublime “ Mistress Bex 💋 I actually think that I’m in love with this man...... Mistress Bex 💋
oh god I wish I had a time machine. I saw them at All Tomorrow's Parties a few years back and it was one of the best gigs I've ever seen. The energy.
wow. nice. I'll be seeing Gang Of Four soon and Wire a few weeks later in Seattle. Should both be good shows.
Saw them the night before in Cleveland. Swear it was one of the best concerts I've witnessed. Amazing.
awesome bass.
Best band ever.
Unique
I see no reason whatsoever to disagree with you.
Brilliant! I never saw them on TV ever in the 70 & 80s. Thanks for this.
It's just......it's the most amazing live performance ever
Tim Drake : isn’t he awesome? Mistress Bex 💋
Tim; it’s like him - sublime. Mistress Bex 💋
😅😂
no that was my typo. You are right Wire was badass at this stage in their career because the music is so simple, melodic, and dramatic
Colin: many thanks for posting this! It's still simply fantastic.
I miss bands like this. Great times!
(I want more bands like this)
One of the most vanguardist bands from the post punk era!!!
They were in the middle of it all, hardly post punk.

@@Shikta-poobah67 indeed down at the Roxy. A reference point for so many later bands. Some people can't contextualize,
I always thought ian curtis was basically just an epileptic colin newman

No matter how much i hear this, I don't get tired of it
wow..such a meaningful performance..really miss that stuff
My favourite song ever since i heard it.
Very good!
Seeing them at King Tuts in Glasgow in Feb. Cant effing wait!!
Great to hear, but I guess I miss the whole music scene of the 80's and 90's. Today there is no music scene; only pop stars who call themselves "Artists".
Saw Wire tonight! In Louisville KY. They are very much around.
Simple and deep at the same time.

Like a heartbeat!!!
Green Mind, awesome album, thoose first 6 songs, blow(ing it) me away everytime
lovely song
Really great ,original band.
tremenda banda
Why this Wire's song is the most watched on RUclips ?
Cos Big Black covered it.
Maybe because it's one of their most minimalist, and still builds a tremendous amount of tension and emotion. A lot of mediocre punk bands write generic songs with 3 chords. Wire writes sublime masterpieces with 1.
We all have a heartbeat
I don't know who the hell he is, but, that was an awesome performance and great song! I loved it.
god they made some great albums
Why? Wire are still very much around.
check the pinkflag.com website
The guitar sounds reminds me of Jamie Hince from The Kills.. Brilliant stuff!!
Wire's 'Pink Flag' ranks along with 'Court of the Crimson King' and with Roxy Music's as the GREATEST DÉBUT ALBUM of all time. Or not?
Fuck yeah!
Like a heartbeat, Like a heartbeat, Like a heartbeat, Like a heartbeat!!!
saw em yesterday in italy ... last album sounds really aggressive live... still play tracks from Pink Flag :-)
This and the "Sun Goes Down" vid by Killing Joke are the two best on here. Cracking.
Holy crap!! I never realized that Big Black covered this! so weird to realize some of my fave songs of theirs are covers...
MegaKramden:
What do you mean "was"? They'll be playing in Portland, Oregon in ten days (April 12). I'll be there. Wire always is, never was.
Just Genius.
Love it.
Jiminy Willickers!!! thanks for posting this. Your login name appears to be quite fitting. Thanks!
This is a Wire song, covered by Big Black which was released on a 7" single.
I do jump around in the bisnis now for 20 years or more, never saw anything could competing with
well I never I always thought this was a Steve Albini Big Black track, Thanks just awesome
It was nice that Big Black did their cover of this, but they missed the drama and tension and went for bombast. As shown here, it should graduate from a whisper to a scream. Beautiful audio/visual quality too; far better than my wobbly old VHS bootleg...
Wreckless Eric sez: “I love this one!”
It sort of sounds like he's singing "like a hobbit", hehe.. I like Low's cover of this song.
love forever
Also check the Big Black /Albini version...
I have no idea why this is such a good song.
Pure genius... I just got the DVD and the interviews are worth the price of admission. "We don't play requests."
God, I love this band!
here from gazelle twin this song is so pretty in both versions
I wish someboby would post some material fron "Sad Lovers and Giants" which is another excellent band. Please If there's someone out there that has some material from them PLEASE post IT.
He’s, so.........sublime.........He needs no words, he’s a fucking genius........Mistress Bex 💋
god i love wire. doesnt anyone have some live stuff from pink flag?
LOVEEEEE!
Like an apostle of rock n roll
That song defines melodic climax.
@Marty0Mcfly
You made me chuckle.

Best fucking version ese
Okay thanks, I'll keep that in mind.

@Lawful0neutral yep, Steve Albini rules
True. I'm glad there are still people like Jamie keeping this style alive.
♡
fucking cool!!!!!
check out the Big Black cover
emile235 link?
That's good.
fucking excellent
THATS RIGHT....
CHEERS
Big Black's rendition is amazing too
I was kind of wondering why this was recommended on Pere Ubu's "Ubu Dance Party." Then I listed to it.
4021971..... They played at the N0.6 Festival last month!
I learned about these dudes through Talking Heads. They're not as quirky, but they're certainly intense.
Did you not see the appearance of the title of the song at 1:19-1:22 ?
i bet this was one of tom yorks fav songs
:D. the 'I've heard it all and just wanted to let you know" syndrome
Colin Newman looked remarkably like Messi in these videos.
cool new word, vanduardiast
Is the lead vocalist from the "Owner of a Lonely Heart" video?
Yes, cool, but "vanduardiast"......?
I don't know if you are trying to be ironic...but maybe the correct word is "avant garde", yes , that's right.
english isn't my natural languaje, is the same thing if you try to write in spanish or in timbukuduki....
But the music is Universal, and wire is one of my all time fave bands.
And well, anyway ........YOU UNDERSTAND ME.....RIGHT?
"vanduardiast", je,je,je,je , sorry I wanted to write LOL.....
@flea288
Eye ham lightly flushed! Too shy!!! Sank you my bosun pal.
There was a Big Black version?
Thank you. Now all I hear is 'like a hobbit'
