I just shot my first bird ever, a Goldeneye out on the St Lawrence with a linear setup on the spread with 18 mallard decoys. He came in fast, 2 feet off the deck and banked hard away from me when I whiffed my first shot, hit him with the second and he went down. Raised the anchor and went to chase and it took me another 3 shots before I hit him because he kept diving so your extra shell comment made me chuckle. What an awesome experience and I'm completely hooked on divers now. Getting a used mix of 11 Goldeneye, 16 black ducks and a goose floater off Marketplace this weekend, thanks for the tips on the setups, I'm rigging gearing up to make long lines for next season. Thanks for the video it was very helpful, happy hunting from Canada.
Thanks for the info on lots of shells. I feel so bad when I don't recover a bird. I also have to contend with otters stealing my ducks. My spot is 85% divers. I am getting enough action with 60% diver decoys.
divers do not a call - can help... maybe...Again if you don't know don't blow. Lots of small bodies of water hold divers, and sometimes more is less for divers...

What do you guys use for a diver call? I got one from Haydel for $20 and its garbage!
It’s just a regular mallard call and you’re rolling your tongue
Haydels dc-14 works great for me, it’s all about practice. You can even just roll a mallard call to make basically the same sound.
