      i learnt hard but pleasant way that really it is true what they say: only 3 first foreign languages are difficult to learn, after that it becomes much easier. exactly, there form patterns in your head and starting with 4th foreingn language or thereabouts, you just put new bits into same pattern. i think it is called generative grammar? underlying pattern common to all languages. as in: all languages can express e.g. smth happening in future - some have spec verb form for that, futurum, some have other means, word order or extra words, but all can get the idea across somehow.

    0:06 horrible grammar, it should be "prašome sutvarkyti po savęs". "Paskui save" is russian influenced "za saboi". Just so you know natives do mistakes quite often too. "Prašytume" is ok, but very unnecessary in this case.

    you have a great pronunciation. enjoy your stay and courses. For SIM card buy something like Pildyk , Ežys - those are prepaid and usually comes with a plan for a month for either calls/SMS or Data plan. And they cheap. Afterwards possible to top those cards with more money and order for pretty cheap plan for another month or so. It can be topped at Narvessen, or online at respective websites for each service. For local data/calls/SMS those are great while no roaming needed.
    If you stay at the city center, for groceries look for Maxima, Rimi, IKI stores. Or some Aibė stores. Those are pretty much our local Tescos. Futher from Old Town there are also LIDL stores as well

    I do agree "Maxima" is probably a very good shopping center that has basically everything food related, if you want anything besides food "Senukai" is a good bet, it has everything from building materials to furniture to electronics. Basically it's an everything shop, except food. Although they still have a little food section, but I would not recommend it.

    oh. if you speak cantonese and mandarin, is it easy peasy to learn 3 vowel accents in lithuanian? i've heard those languages have 6 different those things? lithuanian only has rising ´, falling `, and broken ~. and now, was searching wikip for that accent thing but stumbled upon my favorite vowel, what is relatively rare in world languages but common in mandarin and estonian: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Close-mid_back_unrounded_vowel -- so you'd have no trouble learning at least this, if you decide to learn estonian, the most vowely language. 😀 (if i say vocal you get wrong impression; estonians tend not to be very vocal but language is heavy on vowels, can have rather long words without any or with very few consonants. (garden in a yard: 'õueaiamaa') accent as in lithuanian is no problemo, but length of vowel is important and meaning-deciding. in school we learn there's 3 lengths - short, middle long, long; in university there's 6 different and who knows how many when you do PhD on vowels. to be honest, all 6 don't have meaning-changing power. word is same, if you say it with super short or just short vowel. ppl just understand you are foreigner. but meaning can change between short, long and super long vowel.
    edit: back to accents. 'tones' are they called, apparently. and according to wikip, only 4 of them in standard chinese. high level, rising, dipping and falling. so, lithuanian system fits right in. i suppose... ?

    • @RhapsodyinLingo
      @RhapsodyinLingo  10 месяцев назад +1

      About the tones - the thing with pitch accent in European languages (I've gone through it in Swedish) is that the pitch isn't consistent. In Chinese languages, when it's a rising tone, it's always rising. But in Lithuanian, even if it's called rising, whether it actually rises depends on the word/phrase, the stress, and where it is in the sentence.

    • @SiiriRebane
      @SiiriRebane 10 месяцев назад

      @@RhapsodyinLingo interesting... perhaps it is so bc there's so much grammar besides tones. (in lithuanian, that is; chinese words have no declination, right?) pitch accents. and accent changes also in declination of a noun and conjugation of a verb and other changes, like, adding prefixes and such? in fact, change in accent is part of declination. (what's that thing that i have in my mind, kinda opposite of agglutination; where grammatical meaning is in change of word root, not adding an ending? example 'tooth' - 'teeth'.) like, random example of my ancient lithuanian grammar book, 1st person singular is tyliù ('am silent'), short accent on last vowel, but 3rd person is t~yli ('is silent'), rising accent on first vowel. so, same word indeed does not have same accent in all forms, but same word form usually does? depending on speaker idiolect and dialect and such? it has been long time since i studied it, and never actually needed, but is fun to refresh memories. just now i see i totally misremembered accent names. not falling `, rising ´ and broken ~ as would been logical, but short `, falling ´ and rising ~. mind. blown. ´ falling backwards 😀
