One day that chess board will show a micro aggression by not being played
Can you please review some scenes from The Last of Us 2? Specifically Some of the important character deaths?
Found you threw the first vid of these gotta sub to stay notified when you post these. Also are you gonna do every scene from the movies or only the best or misunderstood? Been wondering that for a lil.
I was so hoping you’d say something about the concierge (I forget his name) at 2:34-5. He has a very small reaction tonJohn’s request to see D’Antonio.
It’s so funny that Santino doesn’t realize he’s gonna die but everyone else does
Once Santino says “Jonathan” he sealed his fate. That literally triggered John.
I don't know if it was the name as much as it was Santino trivializing him by repeating Winston's words to walk away. He had acted so crass and unbothered talking about the hotel's menu right before that. (Aside) Also, out of all points in this scene, how did enigma miss breaking down that moment? lol
Nah, there was nothing he could have said or done to change John's mind.
He was dead serious and focused the moment he entered the hotel.
@@SoulHuN7eR Obviously John was set on killing Santino in that hotel. But there's a reason he didn't immediately do it without words first. I think Santino just put the final nail in his own coffin with those words. John was done giving him chances.
He should have called him Johnny Silverhand
@@kingsoldier3475 should have said “Calm the fuck down, samurai”
“He got shot, that’s a sign he’s dying”
-him probably
"he died, that's a sign of him being dead"
-me probably
@@eggy8870 had a stroke trying to pronounce your name
I didnt even notice that Winston gave a micro smile after John Wick shot Santino
Oh he did? That’s cool!
I swear i didn't either😭
I got the vibe throughout the movie that Winston despised the arrogance of Santino, so there was definitely some catharsis about seeing his arrogance be the end of him. Though it was definitely in conflict with his role as the manager of the Continental, so he had to hold impartiality.
@@joeldykman7591 And I think that catharsis lead to Him delaing John's Ex Communioicno for as long as he could.
interestingly enough I thought the microexpression was a grimace, showing minor displeasure of the possible consequences of John breaking the rules could cause. especially considering it was following Winston's figurative question.
I enjoyed Charon's expression more than Johns in that scene. The look he has knowing full well what John is planning to do. He captured despair and concern so perfectly aligned with his characters attributes.
I was going to bring this up myself. I'm kind of glad someone beat me to it. Lance Reddick absolutely nailed this scene. One sentence and yet, by the end his expressions have taken you on their own little journey.
Someone could write a novel on that one close-up alone. Lol.
@@richardmorris8902 Yes!!
I love that Lance Reddick and Ian Mcshane's screen time increased with each film. And it was awesome seeing Charon in actual combat.
somehow, this showed up on my recommended, with "posted 3 minutes ago" this timing is amazing

Quite!
@@enigmabodylanguage As u can see, I have been reading Paul Ekman!
Notice how the dog walks with its head ever so slightly tilted up toward John, this shows us that the dog is happy with its guardian & will happily lick his face.
It’s interesting to note that when Santino entered the lounge it was full of people but when John enters it’s nearly empty. The transition only implies a few minutes. Did Winston subtly make sure everyone left the lounge so that he could reduce collateral damage?
Quite frankly I didn't see any collateral damage when John was shooting up the night club with people packed in like sardines!
@@TheWabbit That was different, John went to the Red Circle nightclub to get personal revenge. Winston would obviously worry about the welfare of his patrons and probably knew that John was coming to get Santino. So he would have a vested interest in keeping his clients safe.
@@thelastroman7791 Second thoughts is there is truth to that, I believe it would be Winston worrying about Santino possible taking a hostage ( not a bad shot by John ) and also less witnesses for the killing.
My initial thoughts were on John Wick only and thats a flawed thought!
@@TheWabbit No need to worry dude. It’s not about who’s ‘right’ but just a sharing of opinions. Like most movies, we have to infer what certain scenes mean or what they are meant to convey. I believe that the first scene of any new character is the most important scene. Especially the first scene of the main character, which is always the most important scene of any movie. So it’s really about what we as the audience think and a good director can leave some ambiguity for us to chew on in the end.
Or maybe Santino because of his arrogance, wants space and asked them to leave? 😅
I wish you would have talked a bit about the concierge. I really liked the swallow before giving his answer. He knew full well what was going to happen. I think his worry was more about the consequences for John rather than Santino being killed.
This movie is a treasure trove of spot-on acting and behaviors, a huge part in why this movie became an instant classic the day it was released.
And hats of to those who did the casting, they knew what they needed for this movie and who all to get to act in it.
Pretty much every actor in it understands the role they've been given, and with that i mean, REALY understand, indebt understanding, this movie is absolute quality.
In-depth*? Is that what you meant to say?
@@AtheistGamerz oh yes, didnt notice the typo, ah well thnx for correcting :)
This is exactly what I thought. The acting in all three movies have been near perfect. It’s great.
You forgot to note that Santino really never loses eye contact with John for more than a second. His fear is making him focus hard on the most threatening man ever
4:50 Here, you can see Wick poinst the gun at Santino's face, pulls the trigger, and kills him. This is usually a sign of anger
When he took his dog back from Charon, asking how he'd behaved, it was less an inquiry about the dog and more about Charon's willingness to keep the dog himself, once all was said & done. Or so it seemed to me.
It seemed pretty clear that John had resigned himself to being killed at that point. Powerful stuff, that...
Learning new things about body language just by watching these videos... even though I'll really never remember whatever I hear from the videos.
I am glad you are learning something!
As we can see‚ John shooting Santino implies that no‚ he did not just in fact walk away.
And we also can see that John shoots him in the face, implies that he was trying to kill him.
In all honesty though I learn lot's of cool things from these videos. Keep up the awesome content!
The finger on the trigger is a movie trick. You're correct saying that he wouldn't put his finger on the trigger if he didn't want to kill Santino, so the fact that he did put the finger indicated for the audience that he was going to kill. The thing is, a trained shooter wouldn't put a finger on the trigger anyway - not before he rises the gun and aims. This is a security rule and Jon broke it here (which he don't do in other moments).
My thoughts on it as well.
Finger never engages the trigger until the weapon is raised, safety, if applicable is off, a d a sight picture has been acquired. Under modern training.
Old way was fonger inside the guard, pressed to the front of the trigger guard. This went out of fashion woth the Cup and Saucer, hand rest pistol hold. Seen in films like the Dirty Harry series, and TV shows like Hunter and Barney Miller.
I think it's cool that you guys really break these down and whatnot
Thanks
Winston has been playing the game with john as his instrument since he knew he could be brought back in.
John made the classic mistake:
Never trust Ian McShane. Lol.
@@richardmorris8902 Winston made an even more grave mistake: Don't cross John Wick. And if you do plan to cross John Wick, make sure you blow his head off with the first shot, or else you will never get another chance to take him by surprise.
John Wick Part 4 is going to be intense, and I look forward to seeing the rest of the High Table, the Man Above the Table, Winston, and the Adjudicator all die screaming and in pain for playing like they own him.
@@Foxxie0kun I don't think so.
If Winston wanted John Wick dead, JW would have been dead the instant he shot Santino. I believe Winston is playing the long game and is using JW as a blunt object, with the events of JW2 opening up a seat on the high table, and JW3 being the opening shots of a war between the New York Continental vs the High Table, Winston was able to see just the kind of resources the High Table were able to bring, and thus by the end of JW3 he knew he couldn't continue fighting this war. So he "sacrifices" JW (really, Winston had the element of complete surprise and could have headshotted John at that range quite easily) to prove to the Adjudicator his "loyalty", but then doesn't send anyone to check and make sure JW died, allowing John to escape, again.
The end of Parabellum was Winston making the best move he had available, he may not have able to know the fall from the continental would kill John or not, but he definitely didn't do his due diligence which he knew would be needed for a man like John Wick. He hoped that John survived, and more importantly, that John knew that he never intended to actually kill him, just to pretend to- but he had to make it look real.
@@Foxxie0kun John was wearing his bulletproof suit and Winston knew it. If Winston had wanted him dead he would shot him in the head the first time. Instead, he purposely shoots the body and nowhere else.
This is a scene that was tense the whole way through
“He was a good dog, I have enjoyed his company.”
Love that part lol. Awesome analysis, thanks for the cool vid.
I got an ad for this video that started with: "I'm about to blow your mind in the next 60 seconds"
I don't know if you take requests, but the scene with Bill Burr in the Mandalorian could be fun to analyze. The one in the barracks when they were confronted by the imperial officer.
Heck yeah it would
I've really enjoyed watching this channel throughout the past few months, watching it evolve to a higher level of quality with each episode
Another great detail is how John shoots Santino- he doesn't just raise the gun and fire, he pivots his shoulders slightly and thrusts the pistol forward, the way a martial artist throws a punch. He's not there for a cold execution, he's there for personal revenge. Brilliant scene, and great analysis!
There's a movie scene that always gives me chills. It's the part with Dennis Hopper and Christopher Walken in True Romance, where Walken is trying to get Hopper to give up his son's whereabouts. I don't know how accurate the body language is, but I know it is powerful on screen.
oh man, i didnt even notice John's finger was on the trigger rounding the staircase, indicating deliberate intent to fire

I've watched the wick trilogy multiple times now. And I never noticed the finger on the trigger. Amazing.
The dogs wagging of the tail is a key detail. Dogs wag their tales when excited, happy, or otherwise positively emoting emotion. The dog wagging his tail in this scene depicts that he is in fact a good boy.

Awesome video. Might I suggest when Rick and The Governor meet for a future video?
I've got a sinking feeling that Winston is behind all of this, the death of Johns wife and everything.
Now that would be interesting
Alternate take: Winston knew John was going to shoot but genuinely wanted to talk him down. He was very calm, presented his hands open and gestured towards John. He had genuine concern in his voice. The microsmile was not because he wanted John to kill Santino but simply because he was glad that Santino was dead.
Hey you should do a Analyst of the Fresh Prince of Bel Air when wills dad leaves, I think it would be interesting
Love the analysis and I love the new setup too, keep up the great work!

Sometimes I wonder if those microexpressions are intentional. Maybe he had a slight smile because he did the line well?
New intro looks great keep it up
Thank you!
The most satisfying moment in the entire franchise
Winston is my favorite. He has such a powerful commanding presence, but also a peaceful one where you feel safe and open. Like a gentle giant of sorts. He is like the grandpa you want to give a hug and have christmas dinner with, but also the big boy in a secret hitman organization you dont want to upset or disrespect. You almost FEAR to disrespect/upset him,but more so because of his disappointment in you and not so much the punishment itself. If i was John in this situation i wouldnt of been able to pull the trigger as soon as Winston stepped in. Damn.
I did not realize the micro smile of Winston till you both mentioned and showed it. I'm ashamed I did not realized that minute detail.
You should do a video on ‘Black Mirror’ season 5 episode 2, ‘smithereens’. Its got a lot of emotion going on in it and yeah

enigma's eyebrows are raised when john shoots santino

Ah, so there is actual meaning behind John's disheveled gait during his arrival to the front desk. I've sometimes approached places like that after dealing with a _ton_ of labor and stress.

Great 👍 job on the video do you every think about being a detective in your life
I would love to see a reaction to the end of this movie. It is the first time the viewers see fear in John's eyes.
I wish there was just a bit more of an analysis of Santino here. How smug he was right up to when John shoots him. I'm not an expert, but I could tell he didn't believe John would do anything inside the Continental. He didn't think John would break the rules. He must have felt that with the manager present, he was completely out of John's reach. Little did he know that vengeful fury can be far stronger than the rational mind.
He felt untouchable with his stolen Seat at The Table, until John escaped, and nearly eliminated, the hit squad he'd prepared. He felt untouchable when he put out the bounty, until John came calling. He felt untouchable eating, unbeknownst to him, his last meal. He felt safe as he repeated the words of the manager, probably right up to the point John pointed the pistol at his head. He had but a split second to realize that he was not untouchable just because the manager was begging John to stay his vengeful hand.
I *love* the smug way he acted to his last moments. How quickly his facade of invulnerability crumbled the moment he was in any danger. Santino had ambition that far outstripped his worthiness. He wanted a Seat at The Table, but had no ability to ever understand what it meant to have such a Seat of power.
I believe arrogance can be earned. If you can talk the talk, but back it up, by walking the walk, it's okay by me to feel that confident in yourself. If you can step back when your power, skill, or whatever is challenged, and realize there might be someone at least nearly as good, and then admit it aloud to that very person, even in front of others, then you can be as arrogant as you feel is necessary to let others know you're not lacking in confidence in regards to your abilities. Santino was arrogant, foolishly thinking himself to be a chessmaster who could never fail by virtue of, well, existing as himself. The moments where he's challenged shows just how fragile his position is, and yet he never really realized that betraying the person that gives you your power is a path leading directly to a punishing defeat.
The john wick movies are badass
Yeah!
Now I really want to see you analyze the Jotaro vs Dio fight from JoJo's Bizarre Adventure.
After they conclude the story with the absolute cluster fuck of conflict with the John Wick saga, they should really do a prequel showing his rise and how he left, or at least a movie about the impossible task
I believe your analysis of these scenes actually exposes a flaw in the story. The story goes to great lengths to demonstrate to the user the absolute power and authority of the Continental and the people that work there: the desk attendant and the manager. This is done in order for John Wick's killing of Santino to have the desired impact on the audience. The killing must be seen as John being willing to do what nobody else would even consider: challenge the ultimate authority of the Continental. And yet only minutes before his killing, Santino was also challenging that authority with both the desk attendant and with the Manager, thus lessening the importance of John's actions moments later. And yet, as Santino is enjoying his duck fat, he once again seems to accept that the absolute authority of the Continental will protect him. Blindly accepting that authority makes no sense considering his earlier willingness to challenge it.
I dont think it was a smile, it was more like a sigh or a welp gesture
The acting all round was great, esp the facial expressions of Charon when he looked in John's eyes. But the moment that stood to me was the smirk of both expression and voice when Santino said "Yeah Johnathon". Like, dude, what are you, 5 years old? did you just tattletale on him to the teacher?
S: *Tattles to Teacher that John won't share his Gameboy with him*
T: John, let Santino share your Gameboy"
S: (Bratty smug tone) "Yeah John, share your Gameboy"
*John bashes Santino's skull with it*
J: "I shared it"
the finger on the trigger showing he intends to use it isn’t really legit. it doesn’t mean, only put your finger on the trigger if you know you’re going to shoot, it means literally keep your finger off of the trigger until you are aiming at the target you intend to shoot. it’s called trigger finger discipline. or booger hook discipline for the uninitiated
3:46 when was John a Marine? thought he was just trained to be a hitman by that russian group that he visits with all those kids.
I honestly can't wait for John Wick 4 and seeing how many of the High Table he kills alongside Winston and the Adjudicator from 3.
If the Continental had made one exception for the slaying of Santino, the series could have ended with everyone going their separate ways as usual. Instead, 3 happened, 4 is going to happen, and after the events of Part 3, Winston, the Adjudicator, the High Table, and the mysterious Man Above the Table will all die screaming and in pain for crossing John Wick.
Santino was counting on John not shooting him in the Continental, which of course meant that he didn't understand John at all. I wonder what the fall out would be of the Camorra Family losing both their heirs in one night? 🤔
Probably has been recommended tons, but it would be interesting to see your reaction to the Equalizer films. Denzel Washington does such an amazing job there.
"Wake up Santino, we got a ci- oh wait."
I feel Winston told him him to talk away more for cause John was his friend, than cause it was the rules
My only gripe is how short these videos are. The content is far to interesting and well presented that a 5 minute video could never satiate my desire to keep consuming more
