I need for these guys to do a video about how "I dont need clothes for My Birthday I need another Gretsch" and that includes shoes too, the woman has a fever to buy shoes !
The more demos you'all do, the more I come to appreciate Lee's playing. His sense of timing relative to pauses and quiet passages is getting quite good. Have been known to play around with Gretche's since the late 60's. Have one now. Really lovely instruments, and yes, they do sit in their own space 😊
Totally agree, Lee's playing is getting really dialled in, a real demonstration that there's more to soloing that face melting runs and licks just some classic emotional touch and tone sitting in the pocket 👌
FYI, restringing a Bigsby is mega easy. Just make a 90 degree bend close to the ball end before you hook it on the pin. No need for a capo or anything. I think it was Brian Setzer's tech I heard it from. Works great. Doesn't pop off the hook when you do that.
love these backing tracks. every time I watch one of these demos I pick up my guitar and go find your tracks to play with. I love it, makes me want to play.
@@NintenDub just look in the description of any of their videos and there is a link to backing tracks. they're on the Andertons RUclips page somewhere.
The reason why P90s sound different from the typical Fender-style single-coils is that the Fender design uses magnetized pole pieces, whereas in a P90, the pole pieces are just iron, and there are two powerful Alnico-5 magnets sitting underneath the bobbin - one for the three wound strings and one for the three plain strings - in addition to the bobbin itself being wider and wound hotter, which lowers the resonant peak frequency and thus adds to making the tone a little darker still. That said, I think Pete should definitely buy that purple Gretsch for himself. Seriously, he should. 😛🤭
Hey Captain and Pete, believe it or not, that was your best intro demo jam. Especially Captain, you surprised me...beautiful sound of undertones guys. thank u so much for this. love ya
true, i don't own a Streamliner but i sometimes pick one up at the guitar shop to try out stuff and these Streamliners are really well made for their price
That truly is the "problem" with Gretsch Guitars. Once you get one, you realize how great they are. My first was a 2420t. Next thing you know.... well 4 more models later, two in this series and two in the 6 series later.... I still don't have enough of them!
I have a couple lower end Gretsch’s and the style and aesthetics, sound, and quality can’t be beat. I don’t think there is a better value out there and that is even compared to the PRS SE that I have and adore. The Epiphone stuff is getting better and Fender Mexican line is pretty solid but these Gretsch’s are amazing.
I have 2 of them and they are amazing! I got excited as soon as i saw this I've been wanting a p90 guitar. I wish they had the purple in the solid bridge
Boy!! They sure sound terrific! Those vibrato bar assisted chords that Pete played are pure gold!! Look to your laurels, Epiphone. Gretsch have just encroached on your territory.
I own 2 gretsch Electromatic. A Jet and a hollow body. I have fitted both with HS Filtertrons which to me is the Gretsch sound. Although, I am also a fan of P90s and have a few guitars with either a P90 in the neck or in both positions. What really struck me in this vid however was the expert way you coloured the sound with pedals.
I know I should go for the purple out of respect to Pete, but WOW! that blue looks gorgeous! And P90s... I've got them on a couple of my guitars and I love their sound. I bought a Chinese-made Gretsch on a whim a few years back when it was on an Andertons special deal - a Broadway Jade Metallic G5230T Electromatic Jet - and it's been great! From the moment I picked it up, I knew it was a keeper! Fit and finish was faultless and the Bigsby quickly settled in and has been as good as gold ever since. I've got it strung in Nashville tuning now, making its Filter’Trons even more distinctive - it's amazing in a mix with the Bigsby!
Oh they work for lots of music. Guns and roses, AC/DC, The Cult just to name a few. These things are rock machines! What I've noticed is that they do take distortion well, but they also have a clarity to the notes that is hard to describe. You can play big chord structures and it just works for some reason.
Took two amps and a tele I had laying around to GC to trade towards a Strat. Ended up leaving with that Cadillac Green beauty today with almost $200 cash coming back to me. I couldn’t believe it. They had a mint lacquer 60’s classic series (non road worn) I was after for $850 but felt the neck for 2 seconds and remembered that damn squared off skinny neck they had on those, and as soon as I touched the Gretsch’s neck I loved it and plugged it in and fell all the way for this thing. The pickups are great but I’ll change them because I can’t help it and I have a problem 😂 2 weeks later, and after adding springs under the neck pickup and doing some adjusting, these pickups are still here and I don’t think they’re going anywhere! Man, these p90 E or whatever they’re calling them SING clean and driven when you get them dialed in. I change pickups in just about everything 😂 and I forget about the Lollar’s as soon as I start playing this thing. Really great value for these for $500.
Last night I preordered my G5210T over here in the states after drooling over them for a couple weeks. They're not available over here yet. I'm so excited. I have a feeling that if you didn't preorder one, it might be somewhat challenging to get ahold of one of these for a bit. Guitar Center over here put up some non-Ts a week or so ago and they sold out almost immediately.
Love my white g5220, bought from Andertons just before Christmas. Even the stock strings sounded fantastic! and now gretsch has to bring out a p90 version. Damn you!
Oh my goodness this changes everything. Im not a fan of p90s on their own and or Gretch guitars. But that hollow body tech and the warmness of those p90s makes sense for a outstanding combination with the bigsby on top. It looks real good too
So Very Cool, Thankyou. I have a couple of Gretsch Electromatics a G5215 Single Cut single pickup Rock Machine and a G5248T Chambered Body Double Jet Gold Top with Bigsby. Both are Amazing Build Quality and are an absolute pleasure to Play. So Much Fun. Love Gretsch. Might need a P90 Gretsch now, lol. Cheers
I’ve an (heavily customised) 2019 Electromatic with Filter’Trons and a Bigsby in Airline Silver; I love her to death, for sure. I loved her so much that 6 months later when the Streamliner G2655-P90 emerged I immediately secured one, replaced the cheap plastic knobs with chrome witch-hat-style speed knobs reminiscent of an Epiphone Casino, and removed the scratch guard. However, I think if I knew that they’d be making P90-equipped Electromatics-especially in this stellar kaleidoscope of myriad and exquisite finishes, would have saved for one of these stunners. I like the idea of a matching pair!
I do love my g5220, great quality. The only sign of savings is the terrible master volume pot, it's basically just on or off. Some day I'll replace it, be interesting to see if these suffer the same
I'd grab that G52-10 pearl surf green OR that purple spark 10T if it's available here in the PH. I already have the one Old Electromatic with Filtertron pups & Bigsby which have those huge mother of pearls fret inlays. Those P-90's look really tempting on a Gretsch
I was just thinking...why don't more guitars have THREE P90's pickups, like the very popular Stratocaster, with 3 single coil pickups. This way, the hum can be cancelled. P.S. - Thanks Reverend for doing this.
my second guitar was a electromatic china made and I will say other than a few little things like the switch feeling a little loose in the the middle position I cannot fault it It sounds amazing I didn't have to touch a thing set up wise (coulda been the Andertons fellas I dunno) its just superb and it got me thinking of spending up and getting something really nice when the timing feels right.
I like the tip of using a capo with restringing a gretsch bigsby. I've always had an interesting time attempting it solo but that makes complete sense now!
I usually leave a dutuned bottom e string on to do all the oiling / cleaning etc. then put the other five back on before swapping the last string. Quicker than trying to find the sping after it 'escapes' and rolls under the sofa/bed/fridge...
If they're still doing standard, in house Gretsch p-90s, they should have extra heavy brass construction underneath. While brass is not magnetic, it has properties that interact with magnetic fields. Magnetic Eddy? Something like that. They were trying to create a unique, high-volume, super clean, single coil "humbucker" for jazz and swing.
I love Gretsches and I love P-90s, but I never really thought I'd be all that into a Gretsch with P-90s. I mean, they already have a world-class single coil in the DynaSonic, yeah? But you know what? Those sound like Gretsches. Weirdly kind of in-between the sound of a DynaSonic and a Filter'Tron. Maybe a little more output, but all in all, it reall sounds great.
I did not the color Orange Sparkle ... or Rootbeer Sparkle, can it come with a Babicz trem??? How do you get to raise or lower the pups ... no noticeable p/u screws. But, I really like the 5210 ¡¥¡

I swear I thought that was the ONLY way to do it haha
Or use an old school pink wedge pencil eraser
People just like to have stuff to complain about it’s human nature
Or get a vibramate. It is a third-party device, making it 100 times easier to restring.
I find it helps, but the less pricey models don’t grip the same.
It never occurred to me that I'd need a collection of purple guitars at some point in my life.
I just bought a purple sparkle Danelectro. Looks like I'm up for another purple Gretsch. I have a Setzer Hot Rod in that colour.
Same here. I bought the Purple Squier Jaguar and am returning here only to find I'm drawn to the amethyst number....
Gretsch. Purple. P-90s. TAKE MY MONEY RIGHT NOW!
As someone who's not a fan of the Les Paul stylings usually, I find these to be very good looking indeed. They sounds very good too.
Right?
Pete and the Captain's opening jams are just the best.
love these backing tracks. every time I watch one of these demos I pick up my guitar and go find your tracks to play with. I love it, makes me want to play.

Gretsch makes awesome solid bodies. I have a 5230T and love it. These P90s sound great, might have to pick one up.
I didn't know that I wanted so bad a guitar with P90's. They sound amazing! (Both players and guitars).

The tone your getting reminds me of where the Monoprice 15w tube amp tone circuit forces you to stay. Darker and classic rock tone.
They had it right with the P90 - humbucker combination on the previous model

I bought my G5420 Vintage 59 just a couple of years ago and it was made in Korea.
these are great blues guitars...to my ears
In Damon Chivers' demo, those p90 pickups sound a lot brighter and lively. You guys should check that out too.
Those pickup cases look sensational.
