It was WW2. Anything that might work was being tested.
Similar to the American M2 Carbine which was a full auto M1 Carbine it was an attempt to give people a full auto weapon that in theory would be good at range instead of a Thompson or M3.
I’ve shot/own an SVT-40. The recoil not to mention how damn loud that thing is stunning. I would not want to be anywhere near that thing in full auto.
