    I’m worried a lot of Universities will drop Wrestling. They were dropping Wrestling before this happened

  • @sbenson97

    No, you will not be able to simply “find raise for additional scholarships.” The NCAA is apparently giving “unlimited scholarships” to most individual programs, but it is coming out of a set number of OVERALL scholarships for all programs. It would be against the rules for programs to simply find raise and circumvent the rules. And NIL is apparently becoming highly regulated and to be used as it was intended. This means pay-for-play is over. Wrestling, and non-revenue men’s sports, are likely in big, big trouble.

    Well if programs do not wrestle their top athletes much during the year I may not go to the meets any longer.

    The imbalance in wrestling is actually killing the sport. People don't want to accept that because wrestling fosters a "you gotta get better" culture but the numbers don't lie. Wrestling is one of the only NCAA sports where we seem to know years in advance who is gonna win a team title. We can't say that about any other sport. If you are an AD at one of the 4 schools that just joined the B10, what is your best argument to the university president to add wrestling as a D1 sport? Can we win an NCAA championship... no. Can the sport be revenue positive... no. will we be able to recruit with the best programs...no. So why add wrestling?

    You are going to see a high percentage of Universities and Colleges drop their Olympic sports which includes wrestling. The SEC is the most wealthy conference and has been for decades and they dropped wrestling in the 1980’s.

    Don’t think that it’s fair to say fans are entitled in a negative way. The financial structure of college in general is way out of wack and Title IX should be amended way before we put the onus on wrestling fans. I do agree though that we should focus on self help as much as possible. I think the points above are accurate and we should lobby for those changes as well as come up with creative fund raising.

    It's a shame that MMA and UFC specifically doesn't do more to help promote and support college wrestling. The sport has grown and benefitted so much from wrestlers, too many to even begin to list. You'd think they'd want to ensure that pipeline of talent continues by doing things to make sure the sport is healthy. I guess it makes sense that they don't do much considering they do almost everything to discourage fighters from wrestling to begin with at this point.

    all of these changes are going to severely impact not only sports but students' teachers etc, endowments are and will ceast to exist if these wealthy individuals kids aren't guaranteed admission, makes absolutely no sense that you wouldn't let 25 guaranteed students in if their parents are going to donate millions and millions of dollars which essentially will be passed down to all academics and sports, also unfortunately if a program whether it be high school junior college naia or power houses like penn or iowa , if these programs stink people will not go, i love wrestling but i hate going to tournaments when i don't know who's wrestling because the stalling is insane or these matches even at top notch schools where the score is won by 1 point that will absolutely not put butts in the seats if these programs aren't teaching more than hanging on your head technique people will not go, there's a reason why people love iowa wrestling penn etc because you're watching not just a wrestling match or dual meet your watching a performance and that's why people are excited to go to those duals sorry about my run on sentences i hate typing,

    Let me be clear when I say there is no way wrestlers can be entitled because the work is put in. Let me also be clear that we have no idea how much money these universities make. Sometimes American citizens don’t realize how bad they are being screwed by rich people.

  • @e2go
    @e2go 14 дней назад

    Wrestling needs to make something other than the NCAA tournament matter to casual wrestling fans that want to follow the sport and support it but aren't interested in meaningless dual meets where they don't even know if the best wrestlers will show up. They basically tell everyone nothing matters until the very end. Dual meets have to matter somehow. No amount of fake hype or contrived, forced trash talk will make in-season events intriguing unless there are consequences for winning and losing and even wrestling the matches.

    But giving away a scholarship doesn’t cost the school the same that it would Cost a student so I don’t see that argument. Sure it costs a student $30-80k for out-of-state tuition but what does it actually cost the university to have 1 more student sitting in each classroom full of empty desks/seats

      next to nothing. Campbell is going to have to cut 15 students that are there because of wrestling. They want to give up 700k a year to spend more on a football team that gets 5k fans on a good day.

    I’ve been saying everything that Ben is saying here since the creation of NIL. NCAA wrestling is in trouble. Further, I actually believe that NIL is against federal law, Title 9 to be specific, and currently Universities are not following the law. I believe what’s going to happen is that female NCAA athletes or leftest groups will eventually bring several lawsuits against universities alleging that they are paying male athletes (specifically football and basketball players) significantly more money than female athletes. Thus, even though NCAA athletes are now considered employees of the schools, the legal argument will be that the schools are essentially creating an unequal opportunity for male athletes in an educational setting. Therefore NIL will be ultimately ruled as unconstitutional or against federal law. I believe this will result in universities virtually cutting all non-revenue sports and the only college sports we will have left will be football, basketball, and maybe track. The writing is on the wall. They really have opened Pandora’s box. NCAA Wrestling
    I hope I’m wrong about this. Maybe someone who knows more about the law can provide a better assessment than me.

    • @billsoderholm3125
      @billsoderholm3125 25 дней назад

      I understand that wrestling gets cut and the arguement is that it doesn’t draw and make money. It certainly draws more fans and more money than track and track hangs aroind no matter what.
