Earl Moorhead I agree. I would like to be able to run non lsd in the rear as it drove so much nicer (before the rear diff gave up). At the moment I don’t think I can do this without the internals shedding again.
Arrma should have left the drivetrain alone and carried over the drivetrain from the V4. In over one year, I've only had one issue with my front diff on my V4. I just sold my EXB because I just couldn't take it anymore. Nothing but problems, headaches, frustration, and waiting. I called Horizon Hobby back on September 4th and I was told to wait until late November or early December for parts. Yea, right!! I hate to admit this, but I just bought another X Maxx! Eight packs through it, in the past two weeks and not one single problem. And if anything were to happen, parts are available.
you lack any patience or ingenuity... I have 20+ packs thru mine with a v4 center diff and no issues. It bolted right in and took 2 seconds of googling to figure out that fix. Now that they're back in stock, I have LSDs in all 3 and it works awesome. 1x setup rear 3x front 10k in both diffs. I also own an xmaxx, and it's had it's fair share of problems as well. The stock servo failed on the third run, the tires blew out, the gears stripped and the motor fans broke. Just like the EXB, I fixed those problem areas and it's been trouble-free. Every RC needs upgrades out of the box.
@@based_will .. look it like this cleaning the mess cleaning the grease cleaning the oil cleaning the diff housing, buying the v4 diff from jenny rc check the fluids shim it it takes time and patience. If you just bought a v4 diff from jenny rc and just trowed the exb diff and bolted the gearbox/diff sure it sounds easy and painless.

(oh and bigger scale seems to be much more popular) only thing "new" is Traxxas having a legitimate competitor, Arrma . They were only JUST releasing as I stopped RC stuff. at that time would not have considered an Arrma RC; they seemed to be clunky Traxxas type RC's. Just got back into RC and because of all factors considered went with Arrma; having disassembled / reassembled a Mojave am impressed with design and build quality.
tightening the first screw on to the gasket before the other have started is a very bad practice all four should be upto the ring before any get tightened.
Yeah, definitely better to first go easy on the screws to make sure that both half are aligned probably and then to tighten the screws in a cross pattern. Otherwise you could risk to damage the plastic housing.
Well noted and correct, in the video we had the driver set at a low torque to install the screws initially and recommend you do the final cross-pattern tighten of the screws with a hand driver :)
Its a real shame that the official video doesn’t address the shims, which seem to be the big issue. My Kraton EXB drove so nice with the open rear diff (for about 30mins) then it broke and the resolution from Arrma is to rebuild with the LSD plates. I would love to know when we will get a proper fix for the open rear diff?
Same happened to me I only give it a first light run then it broke the first excuse was not enough shims mine had the right amount of shims and it still went not my job to fix faulty goods sent it back got a full refund all the cars I have had over the years never had a diff problem
Get a set of LSD plates, take the circle plate out, and put another star plate in (3 star plates on each side). Not having the circle plate makes it an open diff. It handles like a dream set up like this with the circle plate in the middle up front and in the center, 10k/100k/10k
Jason Dearden (leader of Arrma) posted something on FB about how to fix the open diff. The issue is lack of support of the sun gear (the larger diameter gear inside the diff case). "Adding a large spacer 12 x 18 x 1.9mm, that replaces the LSD plates, is the best go forward solution to support the gears at their widest, remove any axal play resulting from a build-up of production tolerances." so i have an odd problem with my Talion EXB, i noticed the rear diff would randomly start locking so i took it apart and cleaned it completely, i could not find anything wrong, no broken teeth or foreign objects, so i rebuilt it and it was fine for about 4 runs and now it has locked again, any ideas?
Nice vid I rebuilt all my diffs with heavier oil but I’m getting slippage in my gears like there skipping the gears I’m not sure what the problem could be I was wondering if you guys had any ideas thanks
Really would have been nice to have this info before I received my warranty parts from Horizon for rebuild. There is no mention of there being a smooth side on the active diff plates. I rebuilt my rear diff a week ago & it has failed for a second time. I've really been disappointed by the EXB as I have spent more time working on it than I have driving it... I guess the third time's a charm. Too bad I'll have to purchase these parts this time if I can even find them.
Can you explain why the INTERACTIVE EXPLODED VIEW on the web site shows the rear diff build different to what you have done here? The main image of it shows the LSD plates to go star star plain plates.. then the exploded view of the plates show it the way you have done here( but no mention there of which direction they should be installed). Also from what date are the "updated/fixed" versions of the EXB in the shops? as I have held off buying one till this mess gets sorted :D

Can these lsd plates be used in the center diff as well ? Asking because my mojave diffs out real bad , I've put some super thick oils and greases in it and it still diffs out. I bought everything to build a new center diff and put jb weld in it to permanently lock the center diff but that in turn destroyed my rear diff .
how do I keep my front end down on my exb , I have a max 6 20t , running 50k 200k 20k , the kraton still lifts on about 30 % throttle I'm looking to send more power to the front than rear ? Any suggestions
Arrma upgraded diffs cups are driving me crazy, once i assemble them and put them in the diff housing/bulkhead i get bad mesh. spent a bunch of money and had to go back to the plastic cups
I cracked them back open, I had them going every which way lol, now they turn like butter. I never ran it like that, arrma dropped this video right on time!
Hope this new diff lasts longer than the first one(35 packs) in my EXB.......and that was with a repack/shim clearance check before the first run. I don’t appreciate Horizon Hobbies making me feel like I was an isolated case......when everyone was having issues......not the first time though in 20 years+ .....so my fault.......not drivable for almost two months now......no end in sight.........it’s only $1100 sitting idle 😂
How has this been holding up for you ? My cousin has 30 6s packs through his exb and he got the newest batch, I’m just curious if this fix worked for you?

These diffs are trash. I go thru a set of gears in the rear at least every 3 runs. I have them built in the 1x config exactly like this video, without the plates it wouldn't last 15 min. Hopefully arrma comes up with a better solution.

Nothing lol imo kind of a pointless upgrade. They should have just beefed up the gears and skipped the LSD stuff. Why re-invent the wheel

Get two LSD plate sets and build each side with three start plates and no locking plate. Or you could build it as above and run lighter fluid.

It's easiest to use needle-nose pliers to remove the cross pins (ARA713033)
Can you tell us if the EXB manual is correct regarding the 3 shims under the pins? It has two large(.15 thick) and 1 small (.20 thick).

I am having problems removing the pin to take out a broken out cup shaft any i dea on how to remove it
Use a Dremel to cut off the outdrive and replace the outdrive. The pins are weak and then get jammed in the hole. Hope that helps

My arrma mojave only came with 2 plates, no round one in the middle or end😢

They just need to use the revised open EXB diffs, then it would be fine for the RTR cars, and they'd be more durable.
