I was a local volunteer working the show that day and spoke to Jon just before they went out. He was nervous, thinking that the crowd wouldn't respond to this glam rock group. I told him, "They'll love you!" having no idea if that was true, having never heard of Bon Jovi at the time. And they did, and as they say, the rest is history. That audience might very well be one of the most appreciative and generous audiences of all time.
What a great video this is, thank you! Alec John Such gets more camera than usual, and he could play. The whole band sound as if they were already huge.
Great stuff. Found their original LPs (33 ⅓) in local library and spent ages telling schoolmates they were good before "Slippery When Wet" was released.
From the second tour in 85 - keep the faith era end of 93 they were one of the top three live performers in the whole world 95 and forward the downfall each tour after. But this through keep faith is the untouchable years Beast mode for sure
OMG, just babies back then working hard to claim their market share by appealing to a tough, conservative, but very loyal & worthwhile audience. I bet they, along with Foreigner, were a stretch for the spirit if the event...but were history has proven they were cut out for it. Such an amazing moment in history! Gotta love that folk!
Wow cracking voice and pitchy all over the place. A harbinger Of things to come. Years of abusing his voice with bad vocal techniques and not doing proper warm ups really destroyed his voice
It's a song they wrote for this show only and never recorded conventionally. At least, we don't know if they ever recorded it conventionally, they could have but never released it

Richie a master of the craft no denying it
I was there on the front row that day and Jon was amazing. Bon Jovi and Foreigner were two of the reasons I drove so far for this concert!
I was there. I said, " A Star is Born"
I was there and Bon Jovi is the strongest memory of all the bands that played that day!
Oh for a time machine. You damn right I'd go back to 1985. 84 to be exact.

As a front man Jon really was untouchable.

Fun Fact: In early 1980s he used his mic stand color for black. Later on 1986 he painted that on white

Is "Heart of America" a cover song or some song they wrote just for this event and never recorded it?
